I understand they were trying to be fair; but fair is awarding the true winner, and give the other one encouragement to do better the next time...ijs.

Not during the ceremony. If you wanted to celebrate her, should've been done afterwards. Encourage her/them but what about the actual winner? How'd you just make her (and all other competitors) feel ?!?
