My high school art teacher literally went to office buildings and got the pieces of paper from their document shredder, and put it in a food processor with water and made her own paper this way. She said as an artist this turns out to be way cheaper and it reduces the amount of waste

@@squidsquad9460 yep! It's super easy too. You'll have to buy or make a "mold and deckle" as well as scrounge up some fabric rags for "couching", but it's a really fun process! I use the paper I make for painting.

Yes! Even toilet paper (when your toddler or cat pulls it off the roll and just leaves it on the floor, tissue unused napkins, shredded papers, and scraps of unwearable clothes and textiles too.
I really love the background music! It has my two favorite instruments, piano and drum beats! The drum beats are sweet vibes to the piano music!

Am I the only one wondering how inventors came up with multi-step processes such as this centuries ago?
Trial and error.
Maybe there was an pandemic and they got bored
Perhaps they were experimenting with making new types of fabric, or it could just have an accident.
Don't underestimate the inventors of the past. They were in many ways much more impressive than inventors today, unable to rely on technology and science to help them.
Making paper is just like making felt except using fibers that arent wool.
The process is conceptually simple to figure out from there.
Just trial and error to perfect it.

My I went is for sort like a rehabilitation or activity program to learn something, I choose notebook making as I always wanted to try making paper using recycled paper I remember watching it on RUclips and wanting to try it and was worried it would be not fun but it was not bad I guess because I always wanted to try it out. The class is every Tuesday for 8 weeks because it’s only 2 hours per class and it has multiple students per class and it takes time and error and finish making the notebook

Went to my first class today. It more like a workshop , teacher said some attends as a rehabilitation I don’t know for what I guess me being a shut in for me this is a good way to help me slowly go out tho it’s lesson is once a week only for 8 lessons. The teacher was also my cooking teacher in the same institution building I was shock.

So I guess the linen used in the beginning of the video strengthens the paper.
1st step is a machine. A shortcut. If you really want to do it the hard way, then just keep cutting the linen and mash it yourself for a week or so. (Depending on amount) You wouldn't mash it for 3hrs or so straight with no breaks, do you?

The video is highlighting the PROCESSES necessary to make paper from hand. The fact machines are used is irrelevant. The point is the entire process can be replicated with hand tools and people.

Can you really call it handmade paper if the process involves feeding actual paper into a vat and then squeezing it with a giant hydraulic press?
Yes. It isn't completely automatic. At all. Not even semi-automatic.
Just because it isn't completely or semi-automatic doesn't make it "hand-made". By that definition, all cars are "hand-made" from scrap.
