I never watched your channel before, but for some reason youtube showed me this video. Even though it is less polished than your other "Anime"-like music videos, for me, there is something compelling with this one. You seem more raw and real. Maybe you are acting, but it seems the feeling there is genuine. Even if it's just frustration/confusion to do your boss' assignment. Whatever it is, it's compelling to me because it seems real and truthful. It seems honest. As an artist, sometimes the more ugly, weird, and imperfect parts of us are where our real voice/talent lies. Sometimes it feels scary or unpleasant to go there, to expose these things, your personal truths, in your work for others to see... sometimes it's really difficult and painful... but if you can do that, if you can face and master it, it can be a powerful tool/resource. At the same time, I understand that, as an artist, it is frustrating when people try to put you in boxes or labels that don't really feel natural or a fit. It can feel lost. That's kinda the feeling I felt in your song actually. And it fit the words really well. A lot of times, it's easy for people to know how to say what they don't want, but they don't really know what they do want until it's right in front of their face. And so, when they don't like something 100%, when they try to say what they want, they use arbitrary labels or words like they want more "naughty" or more "edgy" when what they are really trying to say is more "real" or "truthful". Since your boss said "stop pretending", maybe that's what he means. And instead of "naughty", that could mean something different to you. Like maybe for you, your "truth" can be found in "weird" or "scary" or "angry" or "bitchy" or "desperate". I don't know. Whatever it is, only you can find it out for yourself. Or maybe you already do know what your truth is, but other people might not see what you are aiming for creatively. But it's important that you are really being honest with yourself and that you are not just chasing an idea of someone else or working from a place of vanity or ambition. At the end of the day, whatever you decide, you should stay true to yourself and your vision, whatever that means to you. Even if it's not quite there yet, if you have a clear vision and keep going for it, eventually, your vision and your self-expression will line up until they match each other as the same thing. Anyway, I hope you are able to make your art/music the way you want to and are able to enjoy doing it too. You have the skills and talents! Keep going!
