Some continuity: - Sokka tries to kiss Suki the way Suki approaches him in The Serpent's Pass (which was the first time we saw her without makeup; not Boiling Rock) - Zuko used his breath of fire technique to keep warm, like he did in The Siege of the North Part 1 - One of the pirates from The Waterbending Scroll and The Waterbending Master exits the gondola before Hakoda. This was also referenced when two guards were discussing the new prisoners - This was the first episode in the series in which Zuko called any members of Team Avatar by their real names - Zuko saying that Iroh once said that he never thinks things through is a reference to Lake Laogai
Don't forget in episode 1 when Iroh was training Zuko, Iroh said, "Power in Firebending comes from the breath. Not the muscles. The breath becomes energy in the body. The energy extends past your limbs and becomes fire."
-Sokka learned hiding the war balloon instead of abandoning it. -Mai confronts Zuko about the letter he wrote and tells us WHAT he wrote. -Mai's time spent with Zuko's and annoyance by Azula interfering in her love life finally pays off. -Azula's hold over her 'friends' through fear reachey its boiling point (pun absolutely intended). -Zuko and Suki's last (and also first) encounter was 50(!) episodes ago.
"That's rough, buddy" you gotta love not only the animation and the actors' delivery but also the people who wrote these lines. Everything about this show is great
Yeah, OG Toph is also the earthbender in the intro. Considering that Master Pakku, The water bender in the intro, was the one to teach Aang water bending, and OG Toph taught Aang earthbending, it's curious that it's Azula in the intro. Was there an earlier plan for Azula to teach Aang fire bending?
My favorite moment was that even though the guards are the antagonists, they still have a sense of humor. Female Guard: "No, you can't date the female guards." Male Guard: "Why would you want to?"
11:02 It's funny because Sokka's trying to do to Suki what she did to him during the Serpent's Pass episode when she was working as a ferry worker and pretended to be mad at him and then kissed him and of course when Sokka tries to do it, it totally backfires lol x'D
He didn’t read the room tho LMAOO a guard of the prison you’re being held in trying to kiss you out of nowhere and a random girl who seems to work on the station you’re in kissing your cheek are kind of different situations XD
"They don't take prisoners, they kill them all" that's what they would do...if it wasn't a kids show. Heck, they don't even say the word "kill", they say anything BUT that word when they want to take down their enemies.
@xGungiManx because if you know how the Japanese Empire (which the Fire Nation is based off of) and Germany treated people that weren't them during WWII...yeah.
@@DWargs But during WWII, however...that's another story. Bataan Death March happened plus why would you keep the resistance, the ones who just tried to overthrow your government, alive if you perceived them as a threat? Based on WWII tactics, that's not realistic
"That's rough buddy" I don't think you guys understand, that was the FIRST meme. EVERYONE knows that line, it was a meme before we knew they were called memes!
Your reactions to one of THE most famous quotes of this show was absolutely amazing. Everything I wanted and more. As always, love how you guys are so fun and invested in this show. Cannot wait for more!!
The boiling Rock pt. 2 is one of my favorites episodes ever. It has two of the most shocking scenes ever. And these two episodes made the two parter my fave.
@@Wuffskers I mean there was "some" sexism going on because while women could join the home guard to protect the Fire Nation, they couldn't join the army and be deployed elsewhere. But I suppose there may be a logistical explanation for that, not necessarily rooted in sexism. But I agree that it's not outright sexist like the Northern Water Tribe where you couldn't learn to fight if you were a woman. XD
@@RSK9903 The Northern Water Tribe was pretty bad with that. Girls heal the wounds; Boys go to war. Then Admiral Zhao tosses that one guy off his ship without missing a beat.
I loved this ep... mostly because I watched this around the time it aired and I had a cartoon crush on Zuko and Sokka lmao (they were my age) but also Zuko and Sokka have extremely talented younger sisters in common. Katara and Azula are definitely prodigies and while Zuko is a bender, the person he wanted affection from saw him as pretty much worthless. Sokka also had to learn self worth and struggled with feeling useful. Also, Sokka's dad left him behind to fight in the war so they both just wanted to impress their fathers a lot.
I just love the fact that even though Zuko doesn’t know why Chit Sang is a prisoner, he wanted to step in to help when he saw a guard abusing his power.
my favorite thing about the "that's rough buddy" scene is the fact that the only new information zuko learns is that the moon spirit was sokka's girlfriend. it's highly likely he already knew that yue was the moon
People love to say that they never say the words kill or die in this series, but over just 61 episodes theyre used over 50 times. Thats a lot of times. This show never shies away from talking about death and killing, it just doesnt feel a need to say it constantly. Talking about killing somebody without using the word isnt censorship, its good writing where they know how to use more than the same word every time.
Whenever a character has an unusually detailed face it means it was based on an actual person. The Warden, Sokkas Master, one of the pirates, and Ju Dee were all modeled after real people.
Having paid for the petreon content I'm looking forward to the edits for the next episode which as you guys said was superb and made this episode way worth it.
I have a question for the patrons. Does that 5 dollars unlock every channel or just this one? Because there are a lot of people asking everyone to be a patron. That would add up quick!
I absolutely love this show, but there is something I find very annoying and this is one of the episodes it happens in. There are a number of episodes in which great twists or surprises are spoiled by the "Previously on Avatar" warning in the beginning. I don't know why they have included that, but it literally ruins a few great moments in my opinion...
