In Thailand you just need about $30k USD in the bank and you can apply yearly retirement visa. No need to buy house, car, or marry a local.
An absolute did of a program. Indonesia is a much better option. MM2H is in its third iteration, no worse than before and definitely not attractive without a PR option.

In Malaysia, some politicians have made it a political issue to turn locals against foreigners. So this kind of reason is why they can't come up with an attractive program. While Malaysians themselves are lovely people, their politicians are just as bad as the ones we have. This program will be revised after this financial year cause they will have numbers to tell them that this program is a total failure and that they are not competitive with other countries offering such programmes.
MM2H doesnt meant for business visa, it is meant for retirees. We have other alternatives visas for investor, entrepreneur and different type of visas to suit your requirements. Got the right visa for the right purposes else you would become illegal imigrants and we strongly against them

MM2H used to be a retirement visa but not anymore. If it were really for retirees the minimum age would not be 25 and the various costs would not be so high. This is a long-term residence visa, available for anyone who can afford it.
