    I see Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain in there.... a good blend of Scots and Irish!

    When I'm down, I listen to Irish music, and then it goes away.

    Every note is perfection, and that transition from Helvic to Kiss, especially when the percussion kicks in with the full ensemble chill inducing

    He does use them from time to time. Listen to his pipe solo in track 11 of Capercaillie's Live in Concert album. Granted, he's no John McSherry, Paddy Keenan of Jarlath Henderson when it comes to playing the pipes, but he's one of the most versatile in the Irish folk scene and one of the best flute players in the business.

    I don't believe I've ever heard Michael use the drones and regulators as I have with John McSherry and some of the more traditional Irish pipers.

  • @ianwoolley4564
    @ianwoolley4564 6 лет назад +4

    I'm no expert on these things, but wouldn't the drones get kinda lost here? I mean sure, if the pipes were further forward in the mix, and the accompaniment was paired down a bit maybe, but with so many fine musicians to provide the backing that drones and regulators are so good for, my guess is that they were deemed to be a bit superfluous at the time. I love the pipes too, and prefer to hear them in all their haunting natural glory, but they certainly add something 'otherworldly' (?) to a big session like this too, wouldn't you agree? I wish I'd been there, (sigh!-)

    Bela is fine here, but sometimes I wish they'd use Gerry O'Connor more. Love those triplets of his.

      guyfihi: Bela actually has a better feel with the 5 string then Gerry O'Connor does with 4 strings.

    Love it. Interesting to hear one of the world’s greatest banjo players struggle to catch the subtleties of the Irish phrasing though.
