OMG! It's like you read my mind. I'm literally having trouble prop. ing this one plant. I'm paranoid that they made it so it won't propagate. I'll keep trying.
Do not disturb cutting for atleast 2 weeks. If it is successful then you can find the sign easily i.e leaf / leaves look healthy. Too much attention to any plant lead to kill.
making a clean cut also seems to be pretty important, I noticed a pretty big difference in the rates at which stems started to rot when I used dull kitchen scissors vs when I finally got a proper razor. Aside from the scissors probably having more bacteria and being harder to clean than a razor, it seems that messy cuts damage the stem tissue and have more surface area for bacteria to grow on.

Awesome video Sheffield!! Loving all of your informative videos. May I ask, how long do you usually keep your grow lights on for cuttings that you’re trying to root??
I have a philodendron lemon lime that had a stem get cut of by accident. The cutting has scabbed over and it’s been in a dish with water for at least two months with no root growth. Given we were in winter so maybe just not enough light?
@@SheffieldMadePlants I don't have a glow light but have it placed on a table right next to a window that faces the sun (not direct sun) coming in to spring now so maybe i can get more light.
I’ve seen some people scrape the side of the stem? I’ve also seen people take a razor and cut cross hatches or X shape in the bottom tip of the stem? Can you tell me the reasoning. Is it beneficial?
Hello! My question that know one will answer is, Why does a succulent plant just start to go soft . I have had this problem. I have rerooted. I would love to know why.? this happens to a established plant.
Wow, I have a bunch of cuttings hanging in my giant window that's been getting a lot of direct light. I have a raindrop peperomia that's been in root limbo for months. It has roots but hasn't really shown any more growth. I might move it to leca and put it under a grow light.
angrier yourpropagation idea where you cut at leaf bottom stem. I took the group cuttings together in a small opening in the top of my beta fish tank. They started rooting in a week, Iwas shocked but great up, placed in a nw window avoiding sun
Depends on the plant and how much light and humidity they get. Ficus can take ages, like a couple of months. Tradescantia takes a few days. Lots of plants a couple of weeks though
Hi, I've been the whole evening watching your videos and with this one I have a question. I heard of using cinnamon as protection while propagating. It's supposed to put a little of powder on the cut and put it into soil or perlite, specially with succulents because as you said in the video, almost always you need to have a callus to put it on soil. I don't know if this actually works, it may be acting as the antifungi powder. Have you, or anyone, ever heard about this?
Hi, Does the perlite box also work for leaf cuttings? I tried with soil and covering the box and I ended up with little mushrooms growing in the soil. I'm trying different methods to see which is the most effective

Yes it sounds like a lack of light. Where is it placed? Do you have a grow light?

@@michaelprice3040 you should see growth in spring. Good luck 🤞
I have a feeling they don’t like to get a scab before rooting. It is usually cactus and succulents that like to callus, hope this helps!
@@mayadasilva5952 good info I’ll give another try, my cat ate the first cutting :(.

As always, your video is 💯!!
Thank you very much 🙌
Glad I found all your videos. Very helpful. Would you also comment on the best method to propagate the Calethea family of plants?
The best way is by division. Not sure if you can propagate the leaves
Using sand and rooting powders hormone Ofcourse. Not just sand
Is cold water better than lukewarm water to start your cuttings
My hunch is room temperature is best

Do you put holes in the bottom of the tote with your perlite?
Nope just in a box with no holes. Keep the perlite moist but you don’t want the water to pool at the bottom
Is leca better than perlite for cuttings?
Never tried it but think it works well
Yes

No they're different

Yes cinnamon can be used as an alternative to rooting hormone. Protects the cutting so the natural rooting enzymes can do their work.
Thank you so much 😄🥰

@6:06 How does spraying perlite give it enough water? IF you close the lid does that not suffocate the plant? surely it needs open air!?
Keep the lid and open every couple of days. The high humidity is needed
