As a kid, I spent my summer @ Carr's Beach ⛱️ with my uncle Freddie Smith & aunt Grace Smith they were part-owners of Carr's Beach & Sparrow's Beaches located outside Annapolis, Maryland. My aunt and uncle had a beautiful brick home at the access road entering Carr's Beach. As a kid, I remember all the musement park rides, good foods, cotton candy, candy apple on a stick, ice cream. As a family member we ran concession stands serving Carr's Beach 🏖️ favorite footlong hot dogs, to die for! The topper was viewing the Motown entertainers live from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Thank you LORD for those memories!

Yes, bring on the documentary! One thing I always stick to is segregation kept African Americans together our dollar's stayed in our communities. Now look once desegregation happened places like Carr's Beach doesn't exist anymore and many other African American Resorts doesn't because we took our 💰 and went to get the white man richer!!! I get it, we could go places we never been before. Trust and believe me, they knew that would happen to our resorts...

Yeah, that was the hardest thing to learn about was that desegregation brought an end to so many prominent black business ventures. It's heartbreaking to learn that communities that were thriving during segregation quickly fizzled out as soon as it was ended instead of continuing to thrive and get larger. There is an Instagram channel that I follow called Black History Unlocked. They have archive footage and period interviews. A great resource if you want to delve in to the Black experience of the time. I mention it because in many of the interview they talk about how the black community didn't even want segregation. Which kind of surprised me at first but seeing the damage it did I almost can't blame them. What they really wanted was to be treated as equals and not 2nd class citizens. As a child in my naivety I believed that was inevitable. The only correct outcome. But as I've gotten older and learned the true depth of the institutional racism, I realize it just couldn't. I still believe it can though. If enough of is learn about this history and want to preserve it and change the future.

I'm really glad you were able to find my little documentary. I really feel like more African American history needs to be explored and examined. This was my first foray but it has caused me to look deeper in to what we had lost or just not talked about in my own hometown. If you have a chance there are African American history tours going on in Annapolis. I highly recommend checking them out. There are So many great stories that we never get to hear about.
