I don’t care what any of you say, Mike Dirnt is a badass bass player. And as for Green Day… you can call them Punk, you can call them not Punk I don’t really care. What they are is the best Fucking band on the planet and I will always stand by that!!! Green Day all the way
@@bassofd00m if it's not punk, it shouldn't have punk in the name. Pop-punk is punk with more melodic sensibilities. Honestly The Ramones would fit that description quite a bit...
Matt Freeman for me all day long. I love that on the surface Rancid have this aggression and rage and holding it all down is the joyful, bouncy lines of Freeman. ❤❤❤❤
JJ every time for me. The sound was so iconic. That coupled with keys (of all things, wtf) made the Stranglers’ punk sound. Always felt sorry for JJ’s basses though. That’s a lot of battering to take.
Dude, I love ya Danny, but you broke my heart with this one homie! How could you not include Fat Mike of NOFX!? He’s literally known for mastering “up-stroke triplets” in such a unique way that they’re damn near exclusive to him. (See Suits and Ladders and The Decline for reference).
Tony Lombardo from Descendents absolutely needs a mention. I usually play a lot of metal/prog/math rock stuff, and his basslines still give me so much rouble whilealso being super integral to the songs. Their songs would not sound nearly as good with more conventional playing.
Phil Bryant subhumans, bad brains Darryl Jennifer, Alec bailie choking victim and leftover crack, and Hunter Burgan from AFI are my favorite bassists. R.I.P. Alec, no gods no managers (if he didn’t play bass on that album but still)
Fat Mike from NOFX Joe Lally from Fugazi Jason Thirsk from Pennywise Robert Trujillo Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves Krist Noveselic Nirvana Mike Dirnt Green Day
I get why you made that selection, but I would suggest Fat Mike and Chris #2 (Anti-Flag has definitely become a problematic band due to Justin Sane's behavior, but I will give the rest of the band the benefit of doubt - besides, we're talking about musicianship here)
Klaus flouride appreciation post
He's one of the best.
Every member of DK was one of the best at their respective instruments.
Klaus Flouride appreciation post reciprocated

Gotta be honest, Klaus Flouride is one of my favorite bassists period.
Choking Victim have sick basslines
500 channels waste my life away!!!!
Bass player from them died during COVID, such a loss, great bassist and nice guy
Hells yeah R.I.P. Alec Baillie 🤟

Karl Alvarez of The Descendents should be in there.
Also Tony Lombardo, his parts on MGTC are some of the bands best
I was expecting him for sure.
YES! Myage is my absolute favourite song to play on bass!!
I always find he misses out on these sorts of lists which is a shame, definitely my favourite bass player ever
He's unbelievable
Matt freeman is a legend, god love those bass lines
joe lally from fugazi is amazing and underrated
Dan Andriano from Alkaline Trio runs circles around all of these guys but maybe Freeman!
He is great as well. He has written some really cool baselines.
My favourite Clash bass line was played by their guitarist. London Calling. Sigh, as I’m a bass player.
Guns of Brixton, too
Magnificent Seven- great bass line played by Norman Watt-Roy from the Blockheads.
Dee dee Ramone 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Gabby gabby hey brother

He's english and no mention of Bruce Foxton from the Jam.
Sid Vicious: [sounds of crickets]
The dead Kennedys are the beat hardcore punk band it's a shame they broke up
Turns out they were frauds who only did it for the money.
Agreed.
@@HotStrange ngl 2 days after I realized there didnt💀

Jerry Only
This needs a part two
I love Freeman!!! I love that you included him. There are a lot of good ones. Hard to narrow to 5… nice job.

Foxtons fkn Brilliant!!
Mark kind of sucks actually. And I love Blink
What songs are these?
Buddy Holly, Smoke on the Water, Stairway to Heaven, Wonderwall, and I cum blood.
This needs to be a top 10
Great choice of the Matt Freeman bassline! Underrated tune, and underrated album.
JJ BURNEL!!
Paul is def #1 his reggae background helped him write some beautiful and fun basslines
Can't have a punk bass list without Karl Alvarez
Imagine a punk bass admirer overlooking MIKE WATT SMDH!
He's only a skeleton!

Tom Lombardo or Karl Alvarez too. Amazing punk bassists

Excellent
I often think of Danny Mac Cormac from the exploited, he had so many tasty basslines! Like the one's on "Danny Boyle" & "They won't stop".
Matt Freeman made me love bass
I always liked Jerry Only myself ....
Joe Principe (Rise Against/88 Fingers Louie)
Danny, my... Manny? Ahh, hell, forget that, but keep on tearing up the tempo with punk behs melodies everyone knows loves and remembers!
Scott Shiflett & Mike Herrera are my favorite
Honesty a perfect list. I’d include the dude from the stiff little fingers
Detroit had a few 'pre-punk' bass players.
What's your take on Burce Foxtons bass playin?
Yup. Agree
Where's Chuck Dukowski?
Special mention to Jerry Only
The sickest punk bass tone is on Discharge's See Nothing record.
Hunter Burgan is worth a mention. Especially during AFI's first 3 albums.
DARRYL JENIFER from Bad Brains
Bad Brains are shit.
Klaus is awesome
Matt Freeman so good
How bout the top 5 funk bass players?
I would've incluede Chris#2 from Anti Flag and Alec Ballie from Choking Victim and Leftover Crack, but great list tho
Does Peter Hook get #6 at least?
Graham Lewis Wire, Youth Killing Joke 😃
"Shut up" by The Stranglers, that's a rare one.🎶👍🏻
Jason Black from Hot Water Music deserves some love too
Joe Rapaso, need him on the list.
Wow Hoover Street for Matt Freeman what a great choice
I'd like to see youth or Paul Raven (rip) from killing joke on the list they always have the most incredible basslines🎛️🎧👌
Agree with that. But if this was first to fifth I’d put JJ Burnel at 2.
Alex Feltham, Frenzal Rhomb.
Hoover street was such a class Rancid choice
If we’re not talking about skill and just pure persona I’d go with Sid Vicious somewhere
Tony Lombardo from Descendents absolutely needs a mention. I usually play a lot of metal/prog/math rock stuff, and his basslines still give me so much rouble whilealso being super integral to the songs. Their songs would not sound nearly as good with more conventional playing.
Green Day's bassist Mike Dirnt is the one that inspired me to play bass. He's so underrated as an artist
Jerry Only!!!
Should pf included Karl alvarez of Decendents, and jay bentley of bad religion
Jerry Only from The Misfits!
Yo' Klaus Flouride. Nicely done, sir.
Matt Freeman smokes everybody on this list. It's not even close

What no Sid Viscous? That can't be right,
Oh yes I forgot, it was Steve Jones on bass after Glenn Matlock
Brooo do Peter hook!!
Matt Freeman is the man.
what's the clash one he's playing? i recognise it but can't put my finger on it
Will we ever get Stuart Morrow?
Fat Mike for sure. He plays complex lined and sings over top of it.
Jason Thirsk and Greg K
I'd add pierre kezdy, underrated punk bassist.
What stranglers song was that?
Glen matlock?
Tony Lombardo, Karl Alvarez, Ed Urlik
Seems like there needs to at least 10 in this top 5 list.
What about Tommy Stinson of The Replacements?
But still a awesome list
I see Roger Lima of Less Than Jake mentioned never and it's sad.
I was going to say no Klaus but he was just last
John Doe of ~X~
