    I can really get behind the sentiment at 7:45. I helped my dad with his porch and we did a little pavement job and those stone tile thingies are super heavy and you are on your knees on fine, sharp gravel and you have to check for level and hammer them flush... those construction jobs are super taxing on the body. I cant believe people work these jobs their entire life, every day.

    Roofed a many of multi layered shingles homes. Trick is to strip one layer at a time. As you pull up lower layers it’s removing the nails from the upper layer. When you get to bottom layer the nails left are usually pretty loose or rusted off. You definitely did it the hardest way possible. Should have asked an old roofer for advice.

    I recently did my roof myself (28 squares) I think that you would have had a better experience with a different style shingle remover. Lowes sells them (bon tool 55in shingle remover) they have a flatter base and are longer than the one you had so they are more comfortable and easier on the back. I had one other person help me so I purchase the shingle/nail remover you used because it’s what HD had in stock and we both hated it. You have to bend over more and we basically just alternated with the other one. One person pulling up and the other person tossing to the bin. It’s hard work…. But def one of the biggest return and savings if you know what you are doing. I did a 40k-50k job for around 15k. 30 new sheets of plywood to replace rotted wood, and all new fascia. Digging the series so far.

    Don't use felt paper, use synthetic underlayment.

  • @beeleywood7796
    @beeleywood7796 10 месяцев назад +4

    When they lay tarmac they use a hand held metal "rammer" for the edges. I once used one of those to knock nails into a roof like you are having to. Keeps your back straight and it went really quickly. Good work out on the arms though...

    My advice, make sure all your boards are solid then when you use a nail gun you'll know the roof is solid.
    Good luck 🤞

    It’s best to remove the nails. Because they can work their way through the new underlay and then eventually the shingles.

We always pulled the nails. Otherwise, they might work their way loose and pop up through the felt & eventually the shingles.

    all im wondering is, wouldn't a magnetic nail remover work wonders for this? (dunno what metal the nails are made of, but if not aluminium, then im guessing a magnetic nail sweeper would do wonders), just needs one with a strong magnet ofc so it just tears the nails right out (im thinking of the one's on wheels where you just roll over it and it just grabs anything metallic it rolls over)

    I've done a few re shingling jobs, and one shovel that helps A LOT are pvc snow plows (Small and large), pushing the old ripped up shingles off the roof into your bin. additionally making sure to lay tarps around the paramotor of the house to catch the falling debris and nails. Another great tool is a magnet on a stick for all the pull nails :P

    I wonder, does anyone know if there is worthwhile savings in doing what he did in this video and essentially getting rid of all of the old material and getting the sheeting squared away, then just paying a crew to do the rest? Like is what he did back breaking labor? Absolutely! But, it’s also pretty hard to “mess up.” But messing with flashings, laying down underlayment and shingles is even further from a “good time” than that IMO and also with little to no experience, that opens up the door wider for potential error/failure of your new roof vs having pros do that part.

    I think you should have done more to evaluate all the problem areas, then create a more orderly plan. It feels like you are making it up as you go, which is really bad project management and can be really stressful, and you are probably working on an area multiple times when it could have been one and done.

    I hate to criticise, but pitchforks for dealing with witches? Not a very effective option, in my experience. Give them a mason jar or two and they scurry off like giddy little ravens, and if you're lucky they come back with cookies to say thank you. 🤷🏻‍♀️ In the absence of spare mason jars you can also generally distract them with a beverage (tea, beer, or moonshine, depending on the witch) or, in desperate circumstances, you can distract them by asking about their herb garden - only use that as a last resort though because you're in for an extended discussion of the garden and their successes and frustrations and a lengthy tirade against squirrels, and you mustn't interrupt or they'll be very cross indeed, in which case you definitely won't get cookies. 🤷🏻‍♀️
