Moms had a 99 Expedition with the 5.4 2v for 23 years and just got to say I get saying that about the 3 valve but leave the 2v out of it she's got nothing to do with this. Only problem it has is the spark plug issue but that's not even that bad only happened once to us and it has 250,000 on her
Yep, 99 must have been a good year😂 my 5.4 99 Expedition was bulletproof...the trans was pretty worn out, but it never broke down on me and had around 210k on it when i sold it lol
I have an '04 durango with the non-mds "pre-eagle" 5.7l v8, and shes running strong at just over 200k miles. She was ran hard by the previous owner (and ofcouse some by me, its a fun engine for sure :)), little bit of oil burning and some noticeable startup ticking from the exhaust manifold bolts, but shes a trooper as long as you keep oil on the dipstick and always keep up on the maintenance 100%.
Honestly I never had any issues with my 2001 F-150 Supercrew with the 5.4L Triton V8. Drove it for 300,000 miles before it rusted out and I scraped it. Never any spark plug blowout or oil issues
The 6.0 is like playing Russian roulette, some were made better than others. Mine hasnt been treated the best (its a retired farm truck) but it still runs great on 200k miles. But my neigbor had one and it blew up...
The exhaust manifold on the Ram really isn’t a huge bill to be honest and they aren’t the only ones with this issue. (Do your oil changes regularly and the cam/lifter issue isn’t super common. Most 6.0L Fords have been fixed properly by now and are actually great engines if the repairs have been done with upgraded parts.
Glad to see the Dodge 4.7 here. I owned a Ram 1500 with one. It was the engine that was so good, until it wasn’t. Decent fuel economy and punched way above its weight in power delivery. But blown head gaskets, & the infamous clogged heater core that required cutting your dash to pieces to replace proved it was poorly designed.
Triton 2v. The spark plugs launching into the atmosphere is a problem I've seen on forums. My family and have owned several of these engines and never had that issue. Never had the sludge issue. Most common I've experienced was the upper intake manifold crossover leak. My brother still owns a 97 5.4 with well over 350k. These engines are solid and last a long time. Their downside is they lack power compared to competitors of that era.
Ive had a 5.7 hemi for a long time over 240k miles still runs good just change your oil when you are supposed to and dont over fill it and youll be fine.
My 17 1500 has been fine. Yeh I got that tick from the exhaust that is bound to happen but I’ve put 90k miles on it in 3 years and that’s the only problem I’ve had.
You should of differentiated between 5.4 3 valve and 2 valve, My 2003 2 valve f150 is great, I also get the oil changed around 3-4000 miles. 160k miles.
The 1st diesel truck I ever purchased was a 2007 F250 with 35K miles. I got it to tow our just purchased 5th wheel. The head gasket blew bigger than you know what towing the RV from the dealer to my garage. Fortunately, the dealer I bought it from agreed to switch it for another truck.
Lol, my 1999 Ford Expedition 5.4 Triton has over 250k and still runs great.. Same motor as the F150.. I just run cheap 10w30 Walmart oil, seldom change it but add as needed
Here’s a truck no one seems to ever remember, the Jeep Comanche with the 2.5L AMC I4. I owned one for a few years until my family outgrew it and I upgraded to a Caravan. Great little truck on paper. Good gas mileage for a low tech 4 banger. Could take a beating and keep on going as long as it never got wet. The engine electronics were prone to failure if they came into contact with any more moisture than fog. It literally left me stuck in a car wash.
I had a 99 expedition Eddie Bauer with the 5.4 2 valve and luckily I never had any issues but I was usually pretty good on maintenance but mine ran to 150,000 mi. I think it was before I sold it and let me tell you that thing could do burnouts like no other
First for truck on the list that trucks not bad if you get 4.6 v8. Also i think they made a v6 one. Only bad thing is replacing the intake manifold. The metal ones leak.
Not an enthusiasts but you can make the 6.0l and the 6.4l reliable you just have to rebuild the damn thing and unless you really want this think it isn't really a good idea just get either a 7.3l or a 6.7l powerstroke if you want the diesel in a ford pick up
The Triton 3v are total trash. My dad had a Navigator that died at 150k miles. Got another Navigator and was RELIGIOUS about oil changes.... still died at under 150k miles. Do not buy!
2004 to 2010 5.4 3v sucks so bad but the 1999 to 2003 5.4 2v was good if you fixed the spark plug problem my 2000 f250 with the 5.4 2v with 220000 mil on it should tell you something and it still runs like new
Yo the ford engine that has the plugs blow out isn't the 3 valve with the nightmare plugs you show. It's the regular style plugs and it's also on the 4.6. I've done more then I'd like to tell you about
My 2021 gmc seira at4 had the 10 speed trans that was a pice as well. End the cylinder deactivation. Gave me issues as well. Traded it in with a hundred thousand miles on it, absolute piece of crap. Honestly, I feel like in this day and age buying a truck is ridiculous. They're nothing but trouble all of them
You guys are always wrong. The 04-10 f150 is the horrible model. Also, the spark plug blowout is rare and only on the supercharged 5.4 when over boosted.
No way they are. Chevy has had a lot of flops with their smaller car motors but their truck v8s are some of the best ever made. The Duramax has had its rises and falls but even then you can get more than 40k out of a brand new one before you have issues. Ford has more truck motor flops than Chevy. I’m not a Chevy fan boy but those are just the facts.
@WilliamCox-f7j most of them are Ford? I counted two Fords, two Chevys, 3 Dodges and a Nissan... what exactly is your criteria for something to qualify as most?
@@WilliamCox-f7j don't let her idle for extended periods and toss in a hellcat oil pump. That will extend the life of the cam. Gen 3 hemi's have a fatal flaw (post 2009) where the cam doesn't get enough oil at idle

They are mounted with Heat Shields 🛡 between the engine (Often Aluminum Engine Block) which get warped. On Ecoboost Mustang the Cylinder 3 gets a code of Low Compression.. I went to V8 Mustang again. Will never get anything Turbo if it not a Porsche. It has to be a Naturally Aspirated or Supercharged. 🧖♂️👍🏎🏁🚩🌲⛰️🏞🧗 V8's Forever Ever
What engine comes to mind when you think of 'worst engine of all time'?
Hyundai mostly.
Ford V10 sucks for work trucks spark plug blowouts

The one where they just took a gas block and ran diesel through it in the US.
@HDS32678 you mean the Oldsmobile 5.7 litre diesel

The 6.0 PowerStroke from Ford comes to mind.
I have an eagle Hemi don’t worry I’ve deleted MDS and put a hellcat oil pump on I did all of this almost 2 years ago and I have no complaints

No one who actually uses their truck would buy 1 with a cylinder reduction feature. If I buy a V8, I want a true V8.
Chevy trucks Rule! My bow tie makes me happy, and that Hello Fresh looks pretty good! I may try it
Avoid the overpriced EcoBoost trucks at all cost.

Dodge's biggest problems of the 2000s transmission issues
On the first gen 5.7 hemis you also forgot about the valve seat drop which is a really common occurrence on those motors.

I think you actually mixed up the 2 generations
I love my 2016 Colorado V6!
The sad thing is that all these companies built good reliable trucks and engines in the past.
How about a Detroit Diesel or a Capiller engine? Any engine by Paccar or Daimler Chrysler?
So… the old Fords with the 5.4L, the Chevy’s with the 5.3L and all Dodges and everybody’s gonna have trouble with the diesels. Got it.
I'm waiting for the Mazda miata plug in this video
I don't believe that the Tacoma has a 3.0 liter engine, that was the predecessor.
Spend 15-18K and built proof a 6.0 it will last forever
I’m guessing ford and Chevy
Well now i hope my 3.5 stays good

What year is considered early for the 5.7 Hemi??
Desoto's 345 in 1957. Although the 1st hemi was Chrysler in 1951 with the Chrysler "FirePower" which was a 331ci
But if your talking modern 5.7 hemi, that's early gen 3 in 2003
