I just figured out something amazing. The tempo of the actual soundtrack version of this song is 107 beats per minute. I was getting ready to make my own version of it and when I lined up my metronome it just seemed like an odd number, so I looked it up and sure enough -- Maverick's later plane in the movie is number 107! That is a bizarrely cool easter egg. I can't find any other mention of it, but I can't imagine I'm the first to figure it out in nearly 40 years?
Always loved the the DX-7 Tubular bell patch , you only have to hear it in C2 and you know its Top Gun. Also Enya uses it to good effect. Thanks for the time spent making this video.. x
Lovely walkthrough again, thank you for all the effort you put in creating this video! 🙏 I can imagine that by now you probably cannot hear the Top Gun Anthem yourself anymore for a while, after all this studio and video editing work. 😉
Great video, Kebu! You show the creative process, and the techniques required to reach the sound you require to record this musical piece. Thank you for sharing this look at your creative process. Will Ortiz
You are genius bro! Thanks for sharing your work! I can play everything I hear, but this is a 4000 stairs up, this is a high tech industry. Keep good work!
This one sparks joy! ✨ Apart from our entertainment (and education), I hope that making these videos also serves as a way for you to further hone your craft ("learning by teaching"). Looking forward to whatever your inspiration brings us next! 🫶
I was able to purchase 4 of your earlier works for my SD card. "You Got to Go" and "Perplexigon" are 2 I play the most and they were well received in my circle of friends, who always want them up loud. As an electronic artist myself I know all about laying down tracks and putting songs together. Those days are gone now so I enjoy watching you work. Incidentally. I have 2 Yamaha keyboards and a Roland synthesizer, Zoom RFX digital signal processor all going to a Tascam 8 track digital recorder. I lost my main computer to a power surge caused by Hurricane Michael a few years ago so my work is just an occasional hobby now. But I do have all of my commercial works on a thumb drive I can play anytime I want so theres that. I used most of my equipment in gigs with a band I was in 10 years ago.
Dear Kebu, thank you so much, what a great job, what a brilliant inspiration, what a super great insight into your workflow. I am very grateful to you. You kept your promise, which helps me and I'm sure many of us a lot to understand how to arrange a song and which elements you use. You are a great artist and it would be nice to see you in concert in beautiful Dresden. Klaus Schulze has already been here ;-) I look forward to every video from you. Many thanks and best regards ❤🤝 👍
Takes a great ear for music to rip apart a theme tune like Top Gun. Well done. I had a work colleague who used Cubase about 25 years ago on an old Apple Mac, didn't think it was still around.
8:50 I have realized that two-tap delays are kind of groovy although I didn't care for it for a long time. Not until I realized how common it is and pretty much essential on for example guitar pedals (Eventide Time factor). It's very "syncopic", rythmic as you call it. I have usually gone with either 1/16 or dotted 8 but combining them has opened up a new world. And it has been around in romplers since mid 90's.
You also can read minds Kebu? 🙂I am working on this great piece of Music for a while but never satisfied. Missing here and there bits and pieces, not satisfied with the mix etc. you surely know what i am talking about - and dropped it for a while to clear the mind and "hearing". And now you pop up with your experience. Perfect timing 😉 Thank You for this great Video and the Top Gun theme. All the best, health and luck to you.
I picked up on that chromatic pitch drop right away at the beginning of your presentation. I liked it right away, and hoped you would touch on it..............AND, you did. Thanks!
Well, just 17 minutes watched, and so far you encouraged me to: -turn on my JX-8P and check church bell sound -turn on my REV2 and make a electric distorted guitar sound 😂
Great to see the process. Especially interesting you picked this track as I had practiced it on my guitar not too long ago. Greetings from a fellow synth player. 🙂
Man, I wish I could play my Fantom like you do! Well done! 👍 I had asked Madis if he used a Fantom, and he rudely said he has no use for Workstations! --- Always look forward to your demo's and the workshops you put into your videos! 😀
Thanks! Well, I haven't had much use for workstations myself since I've only used analog synths so far for my studio albums. So right now I only use the Fantom as a MIDI controller. But it has the best synth keyboard touch I've ever used!
Love your gear. I have some versions of some of it. Took a class on Cubase but I bought Ableton. Though I’d have to say I have yet to learn it, I’ve already noticed when listening to music I’m visualizing how the isolated parts would look in a DAW. I no longer visualize the instruments like I used to, except drums. Have watched too many DAW breakdowns I guess.
Kebu, I noticed that you had a pending reboot on your Windows PC and you were experiencing some glitchy audio. I've seen that problem with other audio apps, so your computer can probably handle your audio app just fine - but a reboot should clean up the glitchy behavior. And, I'll say this video was my first intro to your work, and it was fantastic, engaging, interesting and inspiring. I recently got a PSR-SX-700, and immediately after watching your video, went to my keyboard to start trying to learn more about all the great things it can do. Thanks for putting this together!
@BrianKanner - everyone starts at the beginning. Start small, baby steps. There are so many free toys now - free DAWs, free synths, free plug-ins, etc. About the only thing that isn't free is a keyboard and that's about $50 for a starter. You don't technically even need a keyboard depending on your background. You don't 'need' to know how to use a side-chain frontal-lobe gobbledygook to make music. Might be a bit more perfect if you did, but good enough is still fun.
Great video, thanks. I don't know how to say, but at 14:21 (and then throughout the whole video) you press the same note twice (so 2x half) but in the original there is only one long note. It bothers my ears a little bit, as I listened the original quite a lot.

1 hour of Kebu? Coffee? Check! Cookies? Check! Ah, heaven!
Cubase? Check! Aaaaaaaah
Super talented Kebu! Always looking forward to your new releases! Thank you so much for your work!!!

in Far And Away ?
The intro tubular bells aren't anything like the original.
Hm where are they? ;)
yes we all love this one, and this "hitting-a-pan-in-the-kitchen-sound" doesn't give credit to the rest of the arrangement and spoils the song
Fabulous in-depth explanation and demo of the many parts and their orchestrations - simply brilliant, keep up the great work Kebu 🎼🎼🎼🎹🎹🎹
Kebu and his Bouquet of Magnificent Synthesizers...So Good!
Thank you Kebu for sharing!!

You are genius bro! Thanks for sharing your work! I can play everything I hear, but this is a 4000 stairs up, this is a high tech industry. Keep good work!
Fantastic stuff! Really cool how you made that guitar sound. And the ping pong delay on the percussion and other things is just lovely.
This one sparks joy! ✨

KEBU returns. I like when fans shout "KEBU show us your ****" when I know they are asking to see your Prophet 10!!!

Nice Arrangement. Will hear IT later on my big stereo
Hello Kebu! We love your songs here in Brazil! ❤
Takes a great ear for music to rip apart a theme tune like Top Gun. Well done. I had a work colleague who used Cubase about 25 years ago on an old Apple Mac, didn't think it was still around.
I love your work - you are very talented Kebu.
Perfect music Kebu !! Greetings from Poland !

Very impressive setup and a fantastic skill and talent!
Love watching the deconstructions Kebu makes - would love to see one of your version of the Chase please if possible.
Ok, after two weeks I finally digged out my REV2, and onboard distortion doesn't make a trick :)

Wow!!! Great video!
it's a huge post production processing!!!
I love this song. Very nice.
I’ve never been more jealous of toys I have absolutely no clue how to use…. But, I’ll leave this to the professionals and enjoy the sound.

Amazing!
So interesting and fascinating!!!
Very interesting !
Cool studio ❤
🎉 It seems that the lesson is full of valuable and amazing information, even though I do not understand your language🎉 😅😅
You can put on automatic subtitles. They are not perfect, but it will help in understanding.
300k subs!
The B part also made me think of Twin Peaks
Amazing !
Great song! Would you try song Fanfare for the common man?
Hard job but very nice job congrats kebu❤
Love it, fabulous! Goose bumps all over here. Is it possible to use your music on a small RUclips channel? Greets from Berlin!
Great video, thanks. I don't know how to say, but at 14:21 (and then throughout the whole video) you press the same note twice (so 2x half) but in the original there is only one long note. It bothers my ears a little bit, as I listened the original quite a lot.
Yes, for some reason I always thought there were two short notes and not one long note in the song. I put an apology in the video.
