Do the speed & cadence sensors work directly with Strava via iPhone or do I need to get V650 / V800?

If I use speed sensor but not super accurate GPS, but much speed sensor will increase my watch battery? Now polar v800 can hold up to 4-5 hours super accurate GPS tracking. Im thinking is it worth to pay ~50eur for a speed sensor.

I put the cadence sensor and the red light flashes but the polar just recognize the cadence sometimes, just at first. The sensor its new and is pairing. What can i do?

Seems like the sensor would slide down if you go over a few bumps.

Where on the front fork should you mount the sensor? The v650 asks for wheel size, but I assume if you mount it too high or too low your speed will be affected as the magnet can spin faster/slower depending on height.

Place it wherever you like - its asking you for the wheel circumference not the circumference at the point the sensor is. All the sensor does is measure the number of wheel revolutions and the v650 then calculates speed, distance etc based on the circumference you have inputted.

Damn that's right, its the circumference, not sure what I was thinking. Thank you!

Sorry, I'm a novice with this stuff but why doesn't the V650 detect your speed through the GPS? Why would a speed sensor be necessary? Thanks.

The V650 does detect your speed via GPS so a speed sensor is not necessarily required - I don't routinely use one on any of my GPS. However, it can help with accuracy where a GPS may lose signal in certain areas such as heavy tree cover. It is also essential should you wish to use a static indoor trainer where you put it on your rear wheel to track speed. Hope that helps. I'll have a new V650 video up in the next couple of days showcasing the route navigation feature.

Can I use Cadence, speedsensors and HRM ANT+ from another brand like Magene,Mio etc? or I have to buy Polar?

    • @VELOGPSTHEINNERTUBE

Not sure why head unit you have but if its a Polar V650 you can only connect sensors with bluetooth smart as the V650 does not connect to Ant+.

Hi, great video, i looked for the little magnet you bought for 2 pounds but I can't find it, can you send me the link please? And what's the diameter?

Robert Cras Hi Robert - if you search 'cadence magnet' on Ebay there are several sellers offering magnets for pedal axles which are suitable for use with compatible Polar and Garmin Cadence sensors. Mine is 10mm diameter and 2mm thickness and was purchased about 3 years ago - unfortunately I cannot recall which seller I used. Hope this helps.

can you attach the speed sensor to the rear wheel for use with an indoor trainer?

      haveallbeentaken I'm wondering the same...

You can, but the rear has more components to take in consideration when taking the wheel off. I actually now regret not to have put the speed on the rear wheel, although it was probably for the best since I had so many punctures on the rear wheel last year
