  • This Nocturne op. 3 bears the subtitle LEsperance, (Hope). According to Wilhelm Von Lenz, Tausig talked reverently about Chopin and always regretted never having the opportunity to meet him personally. Tausigs Nocturne is a gem of romantic inspiration and its beautiful main theme and harmonic subtleties would certainly have delighted Chopin. Today LEsperence is completely forgotten, but it can provide audiences an enchanting moment if performed as an unannounced encore.

@rafant44 Giulio Draghi, Brazilian, I posted my own recording...This piece can also be played a more fluent but personally I like it slower in order to savor the complex harmonic language, Glad you liked Tausig! Giulio

Of course I am pretty biased about Tausig but the harmonic language is indeed beautiful...Glad you want to learn it too!

On second hearing, I agree with Michael (Ponti) that the slower pieces created more of a technical problem to those accustomed to faster tempos (akin to that of Julius Katchen). Ponti relished in pieces required a polished technique in virtuosity; hence his complete recordings of Scriabin, Rachmaninoff, Tschaikovsky + many others too (also some 50 piano concertos)

Ponti is the standard here, his rendition is somewhat faster in tempo, and flows as always free and easy.

Beautiful piece, but reminds me of Anton Rubinstein rather than Chopin.
