Looks great, good job... Two thoughts i had for you to consider. You really should use a DAC cable between the UDM-SE and the 24 port switch, additionally, you should use a patch panel in your Unifi rack to clean up the wires.
Peter, as a Network Engineer (30 plus years)…I must admit I’m always impressed with your technical skills. Seems like you can do anything you put your mind too! Also impressed with how much you accomplish in a week! 👍👍👍
Hey Peter, as an ex network installer, now filmmaker, I am very impressed with your "basic" network and I mean it is really cool stuff you have there, really like your CCTV system and man o man the quality of those cameras, all the best with your new setup, I can see a man happy with the "toys" he got. Great video, great shots. As always, may you have a great day all the way from South Africa in Nelspruit.
@@PeterLindgren1 I have never till now seen those cameras, I qualified in Dahua and Hikvision, so the G5 was a breath of fresh air. Thank you for introducing them to me, love them as I said.
You can’t Go Wrong with Ubiquiti! The Dream Machine is a powerhouse, unifi has one of the best user interfaces in networking. I’m putting a second U6 pro for the Sensors and the flood lights are awesome little extras too. My install to do list so far is the 24 poe switch, NVR, Poe doorbell, x2 AI pro, x1 Ai 360, x 3 flood lights, x10 G5 bullets, x2 G5 dome, x3 flex switches and some fiber optic cables. Sadly I have an old house and I have to run most of the wires outside due to asbestos, so Spray painting gray conduit.
I been dreaming from the top of my lungs for 5 years about how good UniFi kit is. I have a UDM and 10GBE via UniFi XG and the Dream router at home. So good
Awesome 👏🏽 video Peter, love the content, storytelling, and video editing. Great job, I definitely need to hurry up and purchase your FCP Course definitely want to improve my video editing skills your videos from your main channel & vlogs always leave me wanting more, great job keep up the good work, this video was awesome. God Bless
Awesome job, man I'm feeling spoiled having fiber with flawless 1000 gb down and up with like 2 units totall 😅 but then again I don't run a studio like yours of course, just mind blowing how many places still in 2023 that is dependent on 4g and things like that. Back in my youth a Internet with like 10 up and 5 down you're was the king, took ages though getting anything done when compared today.
Getting Cell Phone Network internet access in my studio was actually cheaper than having fiber installed, and faster than the non-fiber alternative, 5g giving me about 50mbit up and down, and with the 150mbit up/down at home with fiber for larger stuff it works out pretty well :) Compared to this setup though … I have like a router that handles wifi as well, and 1 cable from the router to the nas, in a 300 square feet open space and a webcam from 2002 as a security cam connected to a pc in an arcade cabinet taking a picture every 10 seconds …
Hi Peter, Love your videos and learning a lot from you to improve my own journey. Could you please share the make and model for your camera? I have the Canon SL3 but I can only use it in 1080p.. if I do 4k, it would crop the screen and I'd be invading personal space of my viewers.. I have a Go Pro 10, but I'd like to maintain depth of view in my videos. Thank you. M.
Thank you so much for this video. This is the only one of your videos I've watched, but you've got a new sub and I'll be checking out your channel. I just bought a UDM SE and some cameras. Replacing a POS NightOwl Sam's Club Special. This is great easy to understand info. Thanks again.
the same system I run except I have a 48 port switch with 32 ports POe. Your NAS is much larger, I run Synology 32T backed up to the cloud via Crash Plan. Your gonna love the cameras. I just received today G4 Doorbell Pro POe and 2 G4 Instant for our wood shop and leather studio
Nice! A couple tips would be to connect your NVR to your switch with a 10G DAC cable instead of the 1G Ethernet cable. Since you have the Pro switch, it has 2 10G SFP+ ports. You can use the other SFP+ port to link up to your UDM SE at 10G to prepare for faster fiber internet.
@@PeterLindgren1 No, it doesn't really matter haha, but us network people like seeing it "utilized" to the fullest extent. If you can have 10G LAN, why not?
Great video. The only thing I didn't understand, why would you use a separate router when the UDMSE does a great job of this already? I have a similar setup with UDM Pro, 24 port PoE switch, 3 PoE cameras, 6 mini switches, 3 APs. Unifi works so well.
Pete! Amazing setup my man! Quick question How did you make all your lights controllable from Philips Hue? I have an Amaran LED light, Godox SL100 LED light, 2 GODOX TL 30, some generic LED strip Bars on stand for my corners, and my whole desk setup as Hue Lights... I am finding this VERY Complicated to open 4 apps to open my studio... and I can't justify spending 400$ per Philps Hue LED Floor Stand Lights, and all the rest in Philips hue... this is not with changing all the lights I already have to get them replace by Philipe hue... any help would b greatly appreciated!
Hey "Mr. Ethernet" Even though I couldn't understand half the things in the video bcs I don't have any experience with networking this way before I only use WiFi from my 4G MiFi I bought a couple months ago but I feel this video has been very enjoyable intuitive and funny and I enjoyed watching very very much.. keep up the great work Peter and keep em nice vids comin.. Love yah! 😊👊
Nice video! But ... why not using the UDM SE as your main router? why go through double NAT issues? Also, if you want to make things neat try adding a patch-panel. :D LE: sorry, missed the part where you mentioned the mobile connection ... :(
Lose the Netgear! and go direct to the UDM Pro. It's a "router" in its own right. No use in mucking up your new setup with questionable gear. Keep it clean and simple.
Very nice setup, I can recommend testing the G4 Instant w/WIFI as these are surpricingly good for their size and wifi connectivity. Just need to have a powersource and some wifi coverage and they will be able to record just like the PoE cams. I have 14 cams in total, all being a mix of G4 and G5 models so I can easily recommend my customers which ones to get ;)
Excellent choice going with UI! 👏😎
Soo soo smooth
