I feel like Super Salvador was a Las Plagas experiment to create a faster and stronger chainsaw wielder to dispose of foreign threats. Unfortunately, similar to El Gigante, Super Salvador became downright impossible to control and was exiled far away from Saddler's more obedient puppets. The soldiers on Waterworld could possibly be stationed there to make sure he stays, considering that he is nimble enough to jump great distances even with such a heavy weapon in hand.
The first time i played world as a kid with my dad after him and my uncle had had a night off drinking and unlocking the characters while i was asleep. I played the level the next day and when super salvador came up i was already terrified at the cutscene, but immediately after it ended i just happened to near the spawn. I jumped so hard i literally ran in Real life instead of the game on account of just how huge and fast he was! Easily one of my most fond memories of this game
trying to understand why re4 was so successful will lead you to understanding everything great about our entertainment culture for the last 40 years. the game literally borrows elements from everything that existed up till that point: - terminator (magnum colt, saving a girl in distress, regenerators, many more details), - mad max (enemy and level design of the island), - leon the professional (saving a girl, matilda, buying guns from an expert merchant, having a hitman's suitcase as inventory), - alien+predator (invisible novistadors, parasites popping out, thermal vision, etc etc), - rambo (having a personal knife, helicopter assault, being a trained veteran, krauzer rivalry), - jaws (del lago and del lago boss music) - oldschool arena shooters (hardcore sub bosses and arena level design), - mortal kombat (making gore and violence so fun, gruesome aesthetics by death fanatics, dr salvador one hit kill, super salvador), - horror games, - noire detective movies (uncovering lore mystery by observing level elements and - reading documents, leon gangster with chicago typewriter), - espionage (gadgets, being smart and witty can help avoid combat entirely and use weak points), - romance movies (the indescribable bond between leon and ada), - the matrix (mostly wesker and also how leon changed from re2) - etc
100% spot on mate, and the thing is, none of it EVER felt forced, saturated or overdone. Every element which influenced and warped RE4 into the masterpiece of gaming that it is was real, it worked absolutely perfectly. The 80’s / 90’s movie influence is the one that is the most known by the casual audience, it’s those god damn one liners 😂
He was probably a scrapped enemy with a scrapped area that didn't make it in the final game but repurposed in the mercenaries mini game. It would've been really cool to see it in the main game, though.
one thing that i noticed after watching your video is that in the remake, super Salvador also appear but what is interesting about him is his design choice . you see in the demo of the remake there was a hidden difficulty that you need to replay the game over and over to get it and its name is Mad Chainsaw Mode that make the game harder ,what really cool about that difficulty is that when you meet Salvador he has a different design and when you play the mercenaries in the main game and see super Salvador you see him with the same design just bigger that mean the game is telling us that he is mad and cant be controlled if we go with the name of the mode which mean your theory is correct. sometimes i wish the kept the old design but the new one cooler and has lore behind it
I've been playing RE4 since I was kid, since it came out back in 2005 on my old PS2, and only until relatively recently that I discovered the existence of the Handcanon weapon which you get after beating all Mercenaries levels with all characters with 5 stars. The reason being this giant double chainsaw welding mf, I just realized that I actually never, ever beat the Waterworld map as Leon when I was a kid. For a casual player, beating it as Krauser is easy thanks to his arm, beating it as Wesker or Ada is doable, beating it as the Hunk is harder, but as Leon it is near impossible unless you overcome the sheer fear and panic that this monster of a man causes you. I legit feel like it's one of the most panic inducing enemies in all of gaming 🤣
Absolutely 😂, exactly the same for me. Playing as Leon on the water world is like jumping into the scariest game ever made on the hardest difficulty. Stress inducing trauma, especially as a kid lol
Here's how I think the chainsaw guys are related. There's two Salvadors in the village, one at the gate and the other appearing when you enter the house. I think they might be twins, or at the very least are fellow doctors. The Salvadors you encounter throughout the game are both/either one of those two, and they're both fought for the last time in the mines. The Bella Sisters are, of course, sisters. As you said, they're most likely nurses. Odds are they're not blood related to the Salvadors. Seems pretty plain and simple here. The bloody-masked Salvadors are very much different people, as they use Don Esteban's model. Since 2 appear in the same chapter at different points, it's either the same guy (Papa Salvador?) or two elder doctors who were sent to the mines instead of the village due to their greater medical expertise, which is needed in the mines due to how dangerous it is. As for Super Salvador, I think he was a doctor who was exiled to the Waterworld just because of how unstable and dangerous he is - even to his fellow Ganados - and the Ganados there are trying to keep him contained so that he doesn't try and escape. May or may not be a relative of the other Salvadors, unsure how if so. Also, I personally think the face coverings are to hide scars caused by their Plaga infections. They're much stronger than the average Ganado, but are also more unstable and likely a hazard to themselves and even their allies. It's the same reason why Super Salvador got exiled, except all the others still have at least some trace of sanity or self-restraint left, preventing them from being exiled as well.
he did make it to the remake and he is much more scary and faster you need to play the fourth map as well to encounter him and he has a new design you will be shocked when you see him (i Recommend to play as leon just sayin heheh)

No disrespect intended to the third and final J.J., of course, but an encounter with Super Salvador and a mob of soldiers as an allusion to the first big village fight is an idea that I could get behind! Only this time, you're not dealing with limited resources and a lack of knowledge, you're a proper one-man army. On the other hand, leaving Super Salvador as a Waterworld exclusive enemy does give him excellent shock value. I still remember my first time seeing him charging at me, refusing to flinch to my gunfire and approaching me quickly...
Completely agree, I think it diminishes J.J as a character slightly. I loved the first encounter when we first reach the island, and it was cool seeing him again in 5-4 I suppose. But showing up a few minutes later got old for me. I think first seeing Super Salvador is a traumatic shock for any first time mercenaries player lmao 😂. He's far less common than Dr. Salvador (8, or 10 if you want to count the Bellas) and slightly less than the Garrador (4). Super Salvador is still a menace to me on any Waterworld playthrough! One wrong move, and it's off with your head. Ah, cool! Look forward to that Verdugo video! Noteworthy things to mention would be that he doesn't have to be killed, he takes a great amount of firepower to kill if you choose to do so, the treasure he drops (Crown Jewel for the Crown you acquire moments prior), and his finger wag taunt if you shoot at him whilst he's not frozen.

My Assumption/Headcannon is that he was supposed to be the next or final form of Dr Salvaodor we were supposed to seein the main game, gaining a stronger bigger body due to the plagas evolution, and him being in the water world and surrounded by military type ganados, i would assume that he was supposed to come after Taking out ''JJ'' and his group of Ganados, Super Salvador would hear the Sound of the minigun fire JJ Made and would be Laying in wait to ambush you with a bunch of ganados that were supposed to be JJ's ''Reinforcements'' after you open the door. and what is the in lore reason for water worlds existance outside of ''Extra/Secret place that got scrapped into being a mercenaries stage''? my guess is that it was supposed to be: 1-a Military outpost either Leon or Ada Infiltrates before going to the island where the final parts of the game takes place. 2-it could also have been as part of Leons plaga Nightmares where he gets knocked out again like after the Del Lago Fight, which might explain why Super Salvador is there as part of leon's Initial fear of salvador being the More Unique and impactful Ganado among the countless nameless and face shown ganados, also the chainsaw might have originally been the Bella Sister's Chainsaw's and were supposed to be yellow like Dr Salvador's Chainsaw before The devs change it to be red for it to be unique to them? i would also assume that reason he gets taken out so easily by Krausers Plaga Arm is mainly Due to Krauser's plaga being far stronger and evolved in comparison to super salvador?

Krauser and Super Salvador have the Dominant species plagas, but maybe it is just a case of Krasuer’s strain being more powerful than the others. I know it made Mercenaries easier lmao 😂
It could have worked if Leon Got Ambushed By Ganados During the Military Section in the same way Ada Got ambushed in the Village Section By Mendez and his men using a Tranquellizer Dart Rifle, but this time Sadler did it and Sent him to Water World, with leon waking up in the Water World Outpost, he would get a call from sadler telling him to ''Play a Game/Test Him'', with leon surviving, he would be more and more pissed off at sadler, then again super salvador could have been held prisoner and tortured or experimented on more inside of the water world, only to be released specifically to Test leon. That is pretty much the same way i see it with krauser and super salvador.
