I am from Ketchikan and this may be one of the top Ketchikan videos I have seen! Very good job narration and filming! I have not been back there for 15 years and I dearly miss it! Even the rain! What I miss the most though is the 40 pound white king salmon!
Thank you so much, that is a compliment. I really enjoyed our time there and wanted to bring along all of our viewers that will never have the chance to experience the magic of Ketchikan. Our friends also moved away about 12 years ago and she was so excited to watch it and reminisce!
I agree too! When I was little, the street your Air B&B was made out of wood. Your car would rumble along it as you drove. The old yellow house that was next and behind my old elementary school belonged to friends of my parents. They such sweet people, but are no longer around. I lived north of town. Our favorite beach was Settlers Cove. Nothing beats a sunset on the beach as the sun goes behind the mountains!
Wow! My sister lived and taught grade school there for years, now I wish I had the chance to visit before she retired to Wyoming. She now does Wyoming Jeepers on RUclips. She keeps telling me I would love Ketchikan. From watching this I think she is right. She also has a son Everett who still lives there with his family. There is a great book, a best seller about living and teaching in Alaska for anyone wondering what it's like living in SE Alaska. "The Call of the Last Frontier The True Story of a Woman's Twenty-Year Alaska Adventure" "I went to Alaska for a job and found an adventure!" -Melissa L. Cook. I think you and my sister Melissa are a lot alike. Great video!!
Mark and Lauren, you are truly Amazing!! Gary and I, I feel went on our dream come true 25th Anniversary Trip. I feel like You walked up that Mountain for everyone who wishes to, but just can't. Everytime you stopped along the way and picked berries, looked up at those Ancient Trees, in that serene thick forest, I thought this is Love. How could there not be a Creator, when you look out onto the Neverending Landscape in the Clearing near the top of the Mountain. The whole world just connects from one ocean, river and stream to each other. That hike up and down was not easy, I am sure, but you took us All up there and you gave us the gift of Beauty. You showed us that the world is working. It is not hopeless. It has endless possibilities. It is in a continuous cycle of life. It is growing. It still has quiet sacred spaces. People are living. They are teaching. And they are learning to love this land we are given. Thank you, We love you Both so much. You are Amazing.
The look of Everett when he saw you…priceless enjoy it while it lasts now that my kids are all over 18 when I’m coming back from a trip they’re like oh you’re back?
I wish I was able (healthwise) to do and see half of the things and places in person as you are able to. This is why I absolutely love watching your channel. I am allowed to live through you and your beautiful family!! Thank you for taking time to share with us Lauren and Mark!!
Thank you for this excellent video! I just moved away from Ketchikan in August 2023. This video made me homesick (in a good way) for Ketchikan. My best friend there lived on the street you place is on. I used to live in the neighborhood just above Burger Queen. Every once in a while you would get a whiff of them and it made you hungry! Of course you were above water, that's why it's called Water st. LOL! As for groceries, there's now Safeway, A&P, Walmart, and 3 Bears in Saxman. I'm surprised you didn't take the bus. It was $2 one way and $5 for a day pass. Of course the perfect ending to your trip was experiencing the joys of the Milk Run!
That was a really great video Lauren. Thanks for showing us Ketchikan, it's an interesting place, for sure. When Mark was dancing my first thought was that's where Bennett gets it from, haha! All the food looked great, especially the crab! Can't wait fir the shopping video. Catch you next time!
Your trip looked amazing and that hike to end your time there was so breathtaking. Those views!! I love that you and Mark were able to have a get away just the 2 of you. My husband and I need to try to do that more often. It’s hard when we always want our kids to enjoy the adventures too. This video was amazing. You are a great tour guide! Thank you
I knew you would love the hike! Yes, I love taking the kids along too but it was nice to have break. They actually had a blast with Grandma and Grandpa and their cousins, so it made it easier to be away. Thanks for being here, I am always happy to see your comments!
Oh boy... this is gonna be a long one, so grab a drink, a treat, find a comfy spot and strap in: Wow Lauren, where do I begin? That was an amazing video. I had to break it up over a few hours as I had things to do around the house, but I made sure I had my cup of tea with me when I watched it. The Milk Run sounds interesting. Glad your flight/ferry went well, if not for the weather ☔ Your Airbnb with its view of the mountains and the water, was absolutely gorgeous. Too many stairs though... my body doesn't do stairs. Unless it's scooter friendly, I'll have to visit at ground level or through your videos - both acceptable. Ketchikan is a beautiful, quaint town. Love the views, walkways, trails, scenery and wildlife... gorgeous bear, stinky fish and mischievous harbor seals. Creek Street was amazing. The shops and history, all an A+ in my book. I agree that fewer people make for a better experience. Me whenever I have to go out in public... Oy, people 😳 I loved the museums and your explanation of the history. The bookstore needs a new motto: "Eat - Drink Tea - Read - Sleep". The lumberjack show sounds like fun. The old cannery was also an interesting piece of history. Old buildings hold so much history. We have old tobacco barns being protected and brought back to life. Pretty mosaics, stained glass, carvings and statues... all amazing 😍 Hole in the wall food places seem to always have the best food. Those fries just need to be smothered in cheese sauce, sour cream and green onion... Mmmm. Fish 'n Chips? Pass the malt vinegar and tartar sauce. Crepes and Salmon Chowder make the list. And, was that a gyro? Delicious. Both plates looked yummy. We don't eat shell fish, but your crab feast looked like you enjoyed it, esp Mark. Mousse or cobbler... depends on my mood, or get both and share. Life's too short to skip dessert 😋 That retaining wall?? Um, what do they have back there? King Kong, T-Rex or worse? I'm concerned 🤔 Mark cracks me up. It immediately made me think of a post on FB, "S/He danced like no one was watching ... but they were watching, and s/he looked like s/he'd had 12 shots of Jack (alcohol) and walked into a spiderweb." 🥃🕸️🕺 Your last hike was absolutely breathtaking. Mark's knowledge of wildlife and foraging is always interesting. That huge tree was stunning. I love trees, especially those in forests and mountains. Yah's creation is beyond the measure of words. Love the pic of you with your big smile overlooking the world below. I miss hiking and camping so much. Being disabled can really suck sometimes. And the silence of nature... aah - so refreshing 🏞️ The huckleberries... oh dear. We have black huckleberries growing wild. They're yummy. Maggie was doing her zoomies when she forgot to put the brakes on her 90lb chassis, and went head first into a bush. She has a huckleberry kiss on her cheek that's destined to be there forever. Silly dog. That juice stains. Oy 🐶 I'm glad y'all made it home safely, even if a wee bit stressful. Better to be safe than sorry. The boys looked truly happy to see you back home. Momma hugs and Dad snuggles are the best. Luna photo-bombed you at the end. Too cute. The older boys looked mighty handsome going back to school, and Everett is just as adorable as ever 😻 "I love to travel - I really, really do. I am a wanderer at heart, but I also love this: I love cuddling up with my favorite worn out books and my favorite tea cup, and enjoying all the sweet familiar feelings of home." ~ Brooke Hampton Have a wonderful and happy day. Yah's blessings to you and your family ❤️
I so loved this video❤️ Loved learning about Ketchikan. OMG...that Black Bear?? After watching your vlog at the Zoo an seeing how big a black bears skull is compared to the others, i could only imagine how big that bear was😳😳 Love love loved everything. Felt like I was there. Looking forward to the grocery vlog🥰
Your narrative of your trip is so informing. Such a beautiful place. The history about the totem poles fascinating. Love the video of the bear you got. I think the funniest thing was when you said Mark wanted to buy you a ring. Marks response was a boat, a gun, etc.. so funny.🤪 Thank you for sharing your trip with us.
Thank you to Grandma and Grandpa! Lauren and Mark, what a great trip! Hamm boys, have a great school year! Lots of !s, but , this was great for you both and us. 😍
Im looking at this video and it feels like im right next to you and mark this was Wow this was absoluutly Majestic. The bear and the fish and everything was so so so beautiful. Thank you so much to you and mark for taking us on this trip I will remeber this for a very very long time. My birthday is on 24 sept and in South Africa its heritage day you teached me so much about the heritage there it was so so perfect. Your absoluutly so beautiful. Im glad you and mark got some well deserve romatic break even if he did work. Again thank you so so much. Say hi to the kids and luna. Xoxo
One of my favorite places to visit in SE Alaska! You really packed in the places to see and the video was one of your best for so much different content while exploring the area, well done.🏴☠🐬🤩
So very awesome video, loved the history and you must have lost a few pounds wow I couldn't have done all the walking. It sure beautiful 😍 thank you so very much ❤️ 😊
Lauren and Mark THANKYOU for allowing us to spend a wonderful week with you both in Ketchikan! The trip was amazing, our tour guide is beautiful and knowledgeable and her sidekick a wealth of information with a dose of humour, we thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of the trip and can't wait to do it again wherever you take us. Highly recommend this tour guide for all your virtual travels ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a wonderful trip, and the hike up Deer Mt. Brought back many memories. Forty Three years ago I also climbed Deer Mt on a weekend off from my summer job out on Prince of Wales island. And you had some great sunshine too! Thanks for the journey.
Love how quaint this town is. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for taking us around to see what you are seeing. Definitely need to visit this place one day.
I spent the evening with you as I cooked dinner, sat with my feet up while it cooked, ate together with my family, then finished up the video relaxing in bed, all while enjoying the sites of Ketchikan with you.
Oh my gosh...what a trip...thank you so much for taking us along...I would live to come to Alaska...and this trip seeing thru you and your husband's eyes was AWESOME...so much to see an do in such a small place...so WONDERFUL..thanks again for taking us along...LOVED IT..
I just have to say that it's very refreshing to hear someone from AK giving a tour of Ketchikan. All too often there are a lot of ppl from the lesser 48 that air their opinions/complaints on Southeast Alaska and have no real appreciation or perspective on what it takes to live here and why some of us prefer it over anywhere else. Also, I cracked up when you and Mark were walking along the waterfront, you discussing the insane number of jewelry stores, and Mark stating that you need a boat, shotgun, and pistol. LOL. Those three items are a constant discussion, in one form or another, at our house. 🤣 Thanks again for the video; it was very fun to watch.
We really loved visiting! It was amazing to get to stay for several days and really get the feel of town. Alaska is so big and has so many different things to experience!
I had a free cruise opportunity, over ten years ago. Ketchikan was one of our stops. Unfortunately just before the cruise I had a severe leg injury. The only things I was able to see had to be from a bus. Thanks for filling in all my gaps. 👍
I just found your channel for the first time, and boy, did I ever enjoy his tour of Ketchikan! We took the Coral Princess ship to Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan, and totally loved it. Ketchikan is a beautiful little city/town. Your video brought back so many memories for our 30th wedding anniversary in 2006. You walked eight past the small restaurant (at the beginning of Creek Street) where I had the BEST fish and chips I’ve ever had…and to this day! Thanks so much for the memories and showing me some of the places we’ve yet to see!
Such a beautiful place. For some reason I pictured Ketchikan as a big city. I know your boys and Luna were so happy you were home. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed after being gone for a while.
I always love when you give us a tour our your unique towns in Alaska. Makes us want to visit. We live in South Louisiana, so we know what those darn mosquitoes are all about
Thank you Maureen! I felt the same way. It just flowed so I didn't bother trying to make it into something else. I am grateful that you felt that way too! Thanks for taking the time to comment! Tomorrow I will take you shopping, it came together nicely too!
I didn't realize how we were so lucky to be in Ketchikan on a sunny day!!! No rain or misty weather at all. Very interesting and lovely place to visit!!
I watched the whole video in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. You do a great job. I've got the feel for Ketchikan and the back streets. I took the Alaska ferry quite a few times from Bellingham to Petersburg, stopping at Ketchikan, but we didn't have a lot of time to explore. Thanks for sharing.
For a rather long video you made it very informative and enjoyable to watch. The hike up that mountain was an added bonus, that is a long ways. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing the town of Ketchikan. I enjoyed it so much, I also love the old building the harbor seal chase was fun to watch, the mountains in the back round were beautiful. Thank you Lauren and Mark
Creek street is awesome! I was there, in 2019. This brings back memories! Thank you! It was wonderful, as were the other parts of Ketchikan we saw. In 2004, I took a trail walk in the Alaskan rain forest, in Ketchikan. You couldn’t walk on the ground… only on the wooden paths. I remember those big trees! Yes… the port has a ton of jewelry! I may have visited a few shops! 🤣 Thank you for this video. Now visit Skagway next 😄.
I went on a Princess Cruise tour, in 2010 and we stopped in Ketchikan. Awesome town. I remember Creek street and The houses that had many steps up the side of the mountain to get to them. Thank you for bringing back memories.
We've been to Ketchikan twice on cruise ships. Getting ready to go again. We enjoyed watching your trip and seeing things we have not been able to see during our brief port stays. Two of my cousins used to live there. I should have gone when they were there. I could have seen a lot more.
Having a great morning. Watching one of my favorite Alaska families. The cannery was so cool. We think a like. I was thinking you working for your food. About the time you said it. Chocolate I love but summer time berries are so fresh. We pick blackberries in my area. Can't wait till next video. Great video.
This was a terrific video. I couldn’t believe all those stairs. I’m in a wheelchair so that isn’t the place for me. Thank you for sharing all about each part of town and the history of them. Views were amazing ! Glad you had the blessing of this getaway. Susan
Thank you for adding this tour of Ketchikan, Alaska. I had a Great Uncle that lived there for many years and then passed away in the middle 1980s. Safeway must be having issues about their Ice Cream as even here in the Seattle area, it's hard to get any Ice Cream at all at Safeway, I live in the town of Enumclaw, WA., which is just to the South of Seattle & due East of Tacoma, WA.
My friend lived in Ketchikan and said they always run out of Ice cream. They can never keep it stocked which is so funny when it is cold and rainy. Thank you so much for watching!
You did a great job introducing us to Ketchikan. I don’t know that I’ve ever had the urge to visit AK before, but now I totally want to visit Ketchikan. =)
What a beautiful video. Thank you so much for sharing with us. My husband and I went on a cruise to Alaska for our 25 th 16 yrs ago and stopped there. We only had time to eat and get back on the cruise. I’d love to go again but I’m unfortunately handicapped now after a car accident and could never walk that. 😓
Great educational video .. so enjoyed your trip !! The bear was a little to close!!! Beautiful views , great cultural history .. loved it . Glad you had a great time !! It was a beautiful trip ! I know your boys were glad you were back home ! Bless you all ! Could Mark have flown his plane there ?
What a great trip and vid!! It looks beautiful there. And I'm m so jealous, I would love to be able to get that close to seals!!!!! I love them so much that I have a tattoo of one. But Ketchikan should probably be renamed KetchUrBreath with all those stairs Lol
Great adventure 🙂 Was so nice to see that cruise ship there WE love cruises we cruise at least twice a year but we have not been to Alaska yet but we would love to some day🙂
Wife' father lived in Ketchikan in late 30s until WW2. Worked for uncle fishing. We spent a day in 2018. Coming back this May. A long way from Ohio. Enjoyed your video. Thanks
Thanks!
WOW! Thank you so much for the support! We really appreciate it.
Ketchikan is where we just moved from, lived there for 7 years before moving to Wasilla. And the B &B that you're in I used to work for the owner.
Thanks!
You are so sweet and generous 💕
Wow, thank you for helping make these videos possible. 👍 It really helps.
Thank you so much Mary! That is so kind of you to support our channel. We are so grateful!
Watching now on my big screen tv. It's like movie night for me lol usually I watch on my iPad. Great job! Loving it.

All of those stairs. Wow!!! Very beautiful place. Thank you for sharing your mini vacation. Lol. God bless you all.
That was amazing to watch. I felt like I was right there. I am glad you and Mark had a good time
Such a beautiful place. For some reason I pictured Ketchikan as a big city. I know your boys and Luna were so happy you were home. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed after being gone for a while.
I always love when you give us a tour our your unique towns in Alaska. Makes us want to visit. We live in South Louisiana, so we know what those darn mosquitoes are all about
Crazy how we both have mosquitos in such different climates! I hope you get to visit one day, it is worth the trip!
Love these videos that are like we are on a tour Alaska! Thank you so much for sharing your life with me!
Glad you like them! That is such a compliment to hear that you felt like you were right there with us! Much love from Alaska!
Loved this vlog so much! I'm glad you didn't break it down into multiple videos. This flowed so well and I enjoyed each day!
SO beautiful! LOVED hearing the eagle in the background on your hike! Thank you for taking us along!
Thankyou so much for this lovely video, I would love a holiday like this , museums, wildlife and beautiful scenery xx
It's amazing how beautiful ! You're so lucky to walk in such nice place!!
Thank you Lauren and Mark for the tour!! So beautiful.
Wow Ketchikan is beautiful! So happy to see the weather cleared up for your trip! As always thanks for sharing your views 🥰
That was so much fun everything so beautiful and different I really really enjoyed it and of course I love seeing Luna and the boys

Good morning Hamm family, so excited for today.❤🌼🌼🌼❤😎
It was a joy to watch this. I lived in Ketchikan as a child as my dad was in the Coast Guard. It was so nice to see, I’d like to go back as an adult.
Thaks for taking us with you. It was beautiful in Ketchikan. And you meant some people from West Virginia, my home state.
The couple was so fun to talk to, yay West Virginia! Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for this video. Now visit Skagway next 😄.
Awesome video! Thanks for letting us tag along!!
Thanks for sharing this,I love the view, going to Alaska is on my bucket list
Thank you for the tour. I felt I was actually there.
Such a wonderful adventure for you and Mark. Thanks for sharing with us.
Good Morning family 🌅 thanks for sharing ❤️
Lauren, this was a treat! Thank you for doing this video. I don't know how I missed it before.
I went on a Princess Cruise tour, in 2010 and we stopped in Ketchikan. Awesome town.
I remember Creek street and The houses that had many steps up the side of the mountain to get to them.
Thank you for bringing back memories.
Wat mooi hoe je alles vertelt over de dorp en wat mooie winkels met jammie spullen en mooie spullen
We've been to Ketchikan twice on cruise ships. Getting ready to go again. We enjoyed watching your trip and seeing things we have not been able to see during our brief port stays. Two of my cousins used to live there. I should have gone when they were there. I could have seen a lot more.
I think we still only scratched the surface so I know how you feel!
Having a great morning. Watching one of my favorite Alaska families. The cannery was so cool. We think a like. I was thinking you working for your food. About the time you said it. Chocolate I love but summer time berries are so fresh. We pick blackberries in my area. Can't wait till next video. Great video.
Another interesting destination. Thank you for sharing!!
Awesome 👍 I really enjoyed the the seal's and fish. What beautiful country thanks for taking us along with you guys. ❤️ Blessings to you both.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching! The seals were so fun to watch!
This was a terrific video. I couldn’t believe all those stairs. I’m in a wheelchair so that isn’t the place for me. Thank you for sharing all about each part of town and the history of them. Views were amazing !
Glad you had the blessing of this getaway. Susan
Enjoyed watching your video...your mannerisms, speech, and looks remind me of my daughter which made it even more pleasurable, thank you!
Great video! Thank you for sharing your trip and the great state of Alaska with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You did a great job introducing us to Ketchikan. I don’t know that I’ve ever had the urge to visit AK before, but now I totally want to visit Ketchikan. =)
It was so much fun! Very different from where we live even!
Sorry to hear that. It is not a mobility friendly town. Thanks for watching.
What a beautiful place! You did an amazing job documenting it for us!
Great educational video .. so enjoyed your trip !! The bear was a little to close!!! Beautiful views , great cultural history .. loved it . Glad you had a great time !! It was a beautiful trip ! I know your boys were glad you were back home ! Bless you all ! Could Mark have flown his plane there ?
thank you for the wonderful tour of KETCHICAN.it was almost like being there
What a great trip and vid!! It looks beautiful there. And I'm m so jealous, I would love to be able to get that close to seals!!!!! I love them so much that I have a tattoo of one. But Ketchikan should probably be renamed KetchUrBreath with all those stairs Lol
Thank you for sharing your trip. loved it.
Thank you for taking us in your tour and whoah that hike I couldn’t manage myself.
Thanks
