You make more than most of us my friend. Still I likewise have always had just enough. Never too much extra, but enough. I have never owned a new car, everything is well over 150,000 miles, but the Lord blessed me to be good at tinkering, and prayer. I honestly have prayed cars through the registration process, and inspections. But again I have always had just enough. God is so good! I can't wait until we can all sit and tell our stories, and just marvel at all the Lord has done for each one of us.

Oh my goodness yes! Being able to name the problem or the sickness … it makes a world of difference! I’m finding it’s even helping to the extent of daily parenting littles❤. The more I understand what they’re going through developmentally, the more I understand it and can put names to the things we’re experiencing, the more I learn what’s normal and what’s not, the more it makes sense. The more I learn and understand, the more peace and comfort I find ❤.
The more we uncover the unknown and understand, the less fear and unsettled feelings we experience ❤

I have to admit I have been listening for the last two years and never commented. I have been teaching seminary since September and appreciate your insight. It helps me tremendously as I try and decipher what God wants for my students. You have been such a help and I listen to the podcasts because it is the easiest way for me to do it. This week as I listened to the part about your car being called Legion, I was driving home from work and I was 😂🤣😂🤣😂 all the way home. I almost had to pull over I was laughing so hard. Thanks for a good laugh.

I’ve never before considered your explanation to the words of the centurion explaining his authority. I appreciate your perspective. I’ve always read it as, I understand authority by my own experience. Therefore I know and trust your authority. You don’t need to physically come. Just speak and it will be obeyed. At that level of faith, Jesus marveled.

I loved the story of Legion; and Christ sending the man back home to his loved ones. It occurred to me as you discussed this, that miracles like this require faith and prayers; something a possessed man would probably not be able to muster for himself. So after the miracle, Christ sent him back to the people whose faith and prayers had brought the Savior, and the miracle, to show them that THEIR faithful prayers, in behalf of that poor soul, had been answered. NEVER give up on the people we love and worry over, even if they give up on themselves.

My wife and I traveled to Israel last year and as we were touring the garden tomb the guide said a common Jewish custom was to lay their loved ones body in the tomb and then sometime much later after the decay process was finished they’d come back, gather the bones and bury them so the the tomb could be reused. If the disciple’s father had died long ago and his bones were the only thing left to be buried it seems to make more sense that Jesus understood that and the grieving period was largely done. The burying of the bones could be delegated out.

Imagine a man living with so many demons that when they left him to go to an entire herd that the entire herd then committed suicide rather than live with the demons.
What strength of character did the possessed man have that he could wake up to live another day.
What manner of man was he that Satan didn’t send a single demon to this one, he sent a legion.
Love the hours I get to spend weekly with you. Thank you for everything.

I have had to work on not just questioning “Can God do this?” But “will He do this for me?” “Does He want me to be happy?” So I have decided to believe God will perform miracles before doubting it, but trusting that His will is always going to be for my benefit and if I don’t see the miracle, it’s not going to be because I doubted but because His will is always going to bring greater blessings than my will.

I love the part about anxiety due to storms and Jesus ability to sleep through the storms (BTW, I like you, have the gift of sleep, much to the dismay of my wife). The thought that comes to mind is perfect love casts out all fear. Jesus had perfect love, hence no fear, anxiety, unfounded concerns, etc. So, indeed, praying with all the energy of heart to be filled with the perfect love (charity) of Christ seems to be a really good door to knock on. I am trying to make that a regular "seek and expect" miracle in my life. The miracle of charity.

Our Sunday school class just talked about Nicodemus and being reborn and I thought of something in that when an infant is in its mothers womb for nine months and attached to her with an umbilical cord that nourishes it, it is much the same as when we are reborn in the Savior, we are taught and nourished by him through an umbilical cord of love and devotion, and like it takes a child nine months to grow and develop and face the world so it takes us a period of time to grow and develop with our Savior. Line upon line

I teach my singing students that the three most dangerous words are “I got this” - when they are thinking “I got this, I don’t need to practice anymore, I’ve performed this song well before.“… That’s when they crash and burn! the antithesis of that is to stay vigilant, in life as in singing.

thank you for so much, i love your perspective... I'd like to add another perspective of the centurion: he simply recognizes authority. Just as he has authority to command men, he knows that Jesus has authority to command the elements to heal his servant. so it's a recognition of Jesus' divine authority, and Jesus marvels at the assurance this man has of this fact. No one in Israel has displayed such simple profound faith to say, I know you didn't even need to come here to exercise the authority you have.

Love your section talking about yourwife’s old car. I had a similar car. It was an old Nissan sentra. Very rusty as well. It somehow had a short so every time I was sitting waiting to turn right at a light or getting off the freeway it would honk a long sound for 10 seconds every time I turned my right blinker on ( 10 seconds felt like an hour) , as if I was mad at someone. So embarrassing! I learned to just wave at people with a smile so they didn’t think I was honking at them. 😂

It’s amazing how intuitively aware even the animals were, they new something was in them that shouldn’t and wanted it out too❤. The only problem was being animals and having basic instincts related to that, they saw no other option or way :( poor things. But it’s amazing how that’s still preferable to the man… that his worth was even more than that many pigs. It almost feels like a tiny tie in to the sparrows and Lillies

Brother Halverson, I understand the symbolic meaning of the two doves as you have taught it. I understand the symbolism of it all, but Jesus gave up His life voluntarily , I do not know of any animal that has given up it's life voluntarily. It is barbaric, savagely cruel; exceedingly brutal; primitive; unsophisticated; uncivilized and uncultured. The Temple is full of symbolism and I can not ever remember having to butcher some animal in the Temple to make my covenants there. I read your reading of scriptures for the year last year and I got through leave-it-i-curse even though it discused me to no end. To me it is superstition and barbaric. I have raised livestock for my entire life (now 75 years old) and mourn over the death of every one, I killed all that I needed to in Vietnam, the killing of animals for a sacrifice discuses me. I eat meat so sparingly that I am almost considered a vegetarian, as we were before the flood. I only wish that Father could have given us more knowledge coming through the vale so that the killing of animals for sacrifice would not be so needed. I love your lessons and have followed you from the beginning. I do not believe in satans plan. I love my Savior and try not to do anything to cause Him more suffering than I already have.

We should acknowledge from the story of the possesses man, Math. 8:28-34, that much of the mental illness we see today is caused by devils and unclean spirits. If many people (including many members of the church that I have met) would get a good priesthood blessing, the devils and unclean spirits that are causing their depression and anxiety could be cast out. Do we think that people today are afflicted less with devils and evil spirits than in the time of Jesus? No, I don't think so. Nearly every book of the New Testament speaks about these kinds of challenges. The early church talked about this often, and Jesus and Joseph Smith both talked about this, but today in the church, we say nothing. Sad, since it is much more prevalent than ever today in the church. At least that is my opinion, and I think the scriptures bear this out. Thank you for pointing these scriptures out, since no other podcaster, and no part of the Come Follow Me lesson covers it.

I wonder if there were evil spirits holding her back, should I have cast the devils out? would that have saved her. The references to evil spirits makes me pause, and wonder who had it more correct, us with out medicine of the arm of man, or they who may have seen it for what it was, an evil spirit.

Mathew 8, God expresses His authority, by healing the servant of the Centurion. Jesus is the master healer. He says he is God and has all authority. The Centurion demonstrated love, for His slave, Faith in Jesus, and he was humble. He did not feel worthy in front of the Savior and God says " Verily, verily I say unto you, I have not found so great of faith, no, not in Israel. The servant was healed.
Jesus also talks of the seed, the Kingdom of God is for all believers of Jesus Christ, the (true) Jesus of the bible. It does not matter what your heritage may be to enter the Kingdom of God. You just have to believe in Him. John 8:24 You will die in your sins if you do not believe that I am He. John 8:47 He who is of God hears Gods words; therefore, you do not hear because you are not of God.

I think one area of growth your lessons have provided is the blessings of pondering. Pondering the faith of those who received miracles seems fairly measly. You referred to the principle somewhat, but it took some time on my part to realize how the Savior measured the faith of those blessed. It may be a mistake to assume the leper was healed only because he believed in that moment Jesus could heal him, The Lord looked upon his heart and saw his consistent faithfulnesss, despite his affliction. Similarly, others weren't healed only because His authority was recognized or because they simply "stood forth". He didn't simply heal their infirmities, He healed their sufferings. He comforted them because of the struggles and strivings. Perhaps, most importantly, He blessed them with perspective, insight, and understanding of their life experiences. When we feel we've had difficulties, pulling as hard as we can, and felt the Lord hasn't just left us but also packed a suitcase, what greater blessing and comfort can we have than to understand the purpose of our trial, to feel our growth and His confidence in us, even the light of a convert's newborn testimony.

The fact that the evil spirits begged for new bodies to possess and then immediately commit suicide with those bodies (the pig bodies) has confused me, but I think it's just a manifestation of what they are. They are not life, they are death. The fact that they didn't succeed in killing one "possessed" man but have no problems doing it with the pigs, shows the strength of the man.

I generally love your insight, but I need to say I am very concerned about how you compared mental illness to possession by devils and said it could look the same. They are not the same! Someone with a mental illness is not possessed, but they may think it after listening to this lesson and may be completely discouraged. Devils can be cast out with the power of the priesthood, but mental illness cannot and should not be treated the same way. While Christ is there to take on all our burdens and can help to lift the burden of mental illness, it is not the same as possession.
