      Except he adds an extra however long when removing the drive shaft from the transfer case. Prolly save and hour by locking it in gear taking the middle part out and taking the nut off while attached to the transfer case then you just do it all right there quicker then how he's doing it.

    My 99 Prerunner is making a random clunking noise every several seconds down the highway. I think it's the center bearing play which is about 1/4 inch play in the rubber insulator. I think it's just starting to loop around in the rubber insulator now and then so I'm going to replace it, ...past due after taking a look at it. The vid helps thanks.

    Any idea if the 06 versions have any kind of dimples or any marks to properly along the yoke? I saw where some vehicles have a double dimple marking to indicate the correct clocking but one part is on the end of spline area. Mine shot off and I had such a. fight with a. magnetized brand new universal by the time I got it back together my marks weren’t visible anymore. I got it back in eventually and theirs no bad vibration but I’m wondering if I might be off a tad because my bolts didn’t line back up completely it was very close but just didn’t want to line up 100%. If I was 180° on the yoke you’d think you’d know by a bad vibration maybe but i don’t know if a slight clocking being off would be noticeable.

    great video! i need to do this service on my '99 Taco, and have only hand tools. not a mechanic, so wondering if i will just need to have it in gear to break the nuts/bolts free, and also to tighten them back to torque specs? want to be fully prepared to knock this out (and service the yoke at the same time) thanks in advance!

    I have the vibration on my 99 Taco, but there is about 1/4" play in the carrier bearing, is that enough to cause it? All the ujoints are tight. The only other play is the trans mount has some movement. Thanks for the video.

    • @the_junk_shop
      @the_junk_shop 3 года назад

      Most definitely enough to cause that vibration, 1/4" is way too much play.

    Just had my center bearing and the two rear u-joints replaced in my 2005 Tacoma prerunner due to a bad center bearing. Now my truck vibrates at take off. Any suggestions? Thanks

    • @FixItPhillip
      @FixItPhillip 3 года назад

      I would have them double checked to make sure they were done right. Also the drive shaft is balanced, if the u joints were done and the shaft wasn't installed the same direction as before it may not be balanced anymore, it's important to make some paint marks on the shaft before you do the ujoints so its put back in the proper orientation. But I would first look good at the ujoints and center bearing for play and check the trans mount

      @@FixItPhillip I took it back and they redid the u-joints again. I am not sure if the shaft was ever marked originally prior to dismantling. However it is too late for that. Is there an easy way to check for the balance? Thanks
