    Would this of been the line that passed through crig and then under the A61 Barnsley Rd towards Notten?

    Why this short section of track was removed I’ll never know. It could be very easily used to provide an alternative route between Brighouse/Huddersfield and Barnsley/Sheffield.

      Doesn't make much sense, but nothing does with Railways these days. Our government like to build on land instead of protecting the rail corridors which we may need in the future. The fact that the embankment wouldn't need much work to reinstate means it's more likely due to the lower costs.

      Decline in coal traffic closed many lines around here.
