Really nice to hear you're more positive about going back - I've had a similar experience becoming disillusioned with uni especially when spending half the year at home. Looking forward to seeing your vlogs again when you're back!
I don't know why I'm watching this as I just graduated from LSE but OMG I still have to think twice about MT and LT. Good luck for your next two years and enjoy it while it lasts - so sad that your cohort had to suffer through lockdowns for your first year. Anyways, I'd stick through it as you'll have a degree by the end :) In terms of academics, the second and third years get better as you get to choose your courses and find your niche. Also, make sure to join societies now when things open up! My favourite time was with my sports club, which is where I met the most like-minded ppl (and socials!! carol!! ball!!).
Ahhh, thanks Anna!! I hope 2nd and 3rd year will be a better experience for everyone. I am hoping join a sports society and hopefully we will have a Winter Ball! What did you study at LSE and what have you gone on to do? Thank you for taking the time to leave me a comment. xx
Hey IMOGEN, I am new to your channel it's little bit helpful for me I just wanna knew about sports facilities and hostel facilities in LSE for international students. ❤️
Hi Raj, Welcome to my channel!! I have made some videos about LSE accommodation which is available to all students, both home and international. The sporting facilities are spread out over London, tennis and netball is at Lincoln Inns Field, right next to LSE, other facilities are further away and some are shared with other University of London schools. info.lse.ac.uk/current-students/estates-division/facilities-guide/sports-facilities
Hello Imogen I am Jessie. Unfortunately, I didn't go to LSE in my first year of university due to COVID😢. I spent my first year of university on Zoom😢 which was kind of lonely and stressed as I couldn't have a chance to meet my classmates and teachers in person. This year is different! I am going to London soon but I am kind of worry about socializing as an international student, do you have some advice for me? Your videos are very helpful! I am looking forward to seeing you in London! Thank you for sharing your experience in LSE with us.
Ahhh, thanks Jessie. Hopefully life will be different this year and we will have a more normal university experience. My best advice is to get out as much as possible, study in the library not in your room, arrange to have coffee after classes with fellow classmates. Make connections and form a network of friends, go for walks, explore the city, visit museums and landmarks, talk to people! People will be fascinated to hear about your life in Taiwan and will share their life and experiences with you in return. Do not be an international student who shuts themselves away and studies for hours isolated in their room. The London university experience is so much more than a 1st class degree.
i don't want to be a dampener as i'm sure you'll be absolutely fine and flourish! but just so you're aware, if you did drop out after beginning second year and claiming money from student finance, you will no longer be able to get another undergrad degree fully funded. student finance have a system whereby you can have tuition fees for the length of your new course, plus one extra year, then deducting the amount of years you have started. if you drop out during second year, you would be missing a year of tuition fees needed to complete the course. luckily maintenance is unaffected, but you'd need to find £9k to be able to start again. i learnt this the veeeery hard way, as they're not overly clear about this policy when you talk to them. fingers crossed you'll be fine and happy and worse comes to worst you can hopefully transfer, but please be aware of this and think very hard about dropping out and starting again once you've started second year xxxxx
Going forward, I decided to switch from LSE to Cambridge for a few reasons, despite good exam scores this year: The course I did was a joint course so there was not much flexibility (all compulsory modules, until 3rd year with only one outside option available) There wasn't really a freshers' fair this year There was a real sense of social isolation this year I live close to LSE so moving out will give a sense of independence Societies were not that great this year, though this is the case for all unis I guess
@@ImogenWhite Thank you! I've subbed to support your journey but also to see the ins and outs of LSE as you add your mark to the rich history of 125 years. PS: I think that was Maelle from Passfield ;)
I just started my first year at lse and to be honest it really isn't going well. I am so socially awkward and school technology anf enrolment is just so confusing:(((
Do reach out for help from LSE life, your academic mentor and fellow students in your accommodation. There will be others feeling the same, believe me.
Sorry Sakshi, I completely missed this - I don't know if you're a current student but if not, our lectures are online at least for this term, whilst exams and classes are in person :)
@@ImogenWhite ah no worries! I am a first year student - we had one lecture (EH101) in person but it’s now going back to online because of “safety” in terms of us spreading out in the lecture hall
hi... actually i have been looking forward for LSE this year for bachelor course, but unfortunately i didnt make it. now i am preparing to opt for master degree cource, mainly in economics. can u give me lil guidance. it will be very helpfull. i am really looking forward to LSE.
Keep working hard and get the best degree classification for your bachelors and follow this guidance: 10 tips for master's applications Don't be vague. ... Check the guidelines for application. ... Secure funding. ... Tell them your motivations. ... Check your spelling and grammar. ... State why your experience is relevant. ... Don't undersell your achievements. ... I'm not Imogen but..... The main reason is due to its early adoption by the University of London. Along with Imperal, UCL and other London universities, they were all agglomerated as one big institution (until late 20th/early 21st century). It was the Faculty of Economics being the first of its kind to award degrees in Econ. Since then it has always been known as LSE. The agglomeration is also a reason to consider the golden triangle of unis in London - Imperial for the Natural Sciences, LSE for the Social Sciences and UCL a mix of the two. Not only that, given it is a household institution the use of a treble also gives it an appeal.
