- A compilation of the final switch-off of analogue BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and Channel 4 from the Reigate transmitter.
First of all, BBC2 disappears on 4th April 2012 (note the ghostly 1970s BBC2 symbol that appears after the switch-off, which is actually a trailer for 'The 70s' series, a weak signal that continues to break through for some reason).
Then it's fast forward two weeks to 18th April, where the old ETP-1 testcard (eventually) appears on Channel 4 - the first thing to seen on the channel back in 1982 (though not from Reigate, which didn't get Channel 4 until 1985). While the testcard is showing, it's a quick hop over to BBC1 where Director-General Mark Thompson is standing by to pull the plug, then back to C4 which disappears shortly afterwards.
ITV1 is last to go. This actually switched off some ten minutes before Crystal Palace, in the middle of a programme just after a commercial break. (Channel 5 also switched off some time before it did at Croydon, but I was recording one of the other channels when it went off!)
After switch-off of BBC2, you were probably picking up a weak signal from St. Marks; that doesn't switch until May.
Apparently the engineers found the old test card generator at Crystal Palace, powered it up and it still worked so decided to go out the same way they started all those years ago. Looks like they had some trouble patching it into the transmitter at first though!
Looks modified, probably to remove the ‘IBA’ reference
@@RyanGonTV It probably said "NTL:CH4" so they probably simply pulled out the ROM.
@@nowster NTL? hm
@@RyanGonTV That would be what it said the last time it was used. NTL took over from IBA when it was privatised. It then became part of Arqiva.
@@nowster Neat.
Bloody 'eck, an old BBC Two logo from the 70s in April 2012??? That is a bit shocking actually
But with a old BBC One logo
1:10 Catch up with our **static**
I’d love to
At 1:22, you can see (if you look closely) a really old bbc2 logo.
The 1967 colour one more specifically.
@@nxx99 imagine seeing the very first thing ever on bbc2 on the very last broadcast of analougue
It was actually a signal from St. Marks, which apparently wouldn’t switch off until May 2012, according to one commenter.
I didn’t know that, thanks for telling me!@@MinecraftRivers2311
Fitting the analogue television era, there is ghosting in the picture.
BBC 2's shutdown:
Someone at the television centre: Oh what's this? **boots it**
Also them: Hey a testcard! Yay!
The Analogue Television Service Has Now Closed.
They switched off the signal without a warning on BBC One
BBC Two switched off at the start of BBC Three
Channel 4 switched off during a test card
Am Afraid BBC two switched off at 00:20 not at start of BBC three i saw the schedule that was just a promo for a programme on BBC Three Am Afraid.
BBC One did have a final continuity announcement
1:17 that genuinely freaked me out
Catch up with- *static
Person, i'm having trouble plugging the testcard generator into the transmitter, Get in their you bloody thing 2:44
