I see this sequel as Mark going back and facing his demons, with Sickboy and Spud doing the same. Even Begbie has a scene where he reconciles with his son and tells him how proud he is of him. "The old wino was my father...this old fool is yours."
the only thing he did was stealing their money, which means he steals every one 4000. i always found it funny how they think such a rather small amount of money could have changed their lives forever. that only would have been enough for some months for food and then be gone. they can blame him for the steal, but not for ruining their lives. begbie and sickboy would have failed anyway
I disagree somewhat. Begbie choose to go nuts at the end and attack the police (TS1) with a knife, but he was already on the run for armed robbery which had nowt to do with mark. Sickboy actually said in the pub (where begbie cut spuds hand in TS1) he would have done it when he returned from the bathroom. Very idealistic but unfortunately the reality of addiction to heroine is much darker. Have you seen the first one? If someone is on heroine, you won't be the first person who has tried to "save" them and so what makes you think that you will succeed where others have failed? Don't get me wrong, that's no reason not to try, but sometimes it is literally an impossible task.

I thought T2 had its issues, but I really liked this whole sequence. Spud imagining himself falling off the top of the building was visually striking. It's also the only instance of "magic realism" I can think of in the entire movie, which is weird considering the first film was big on that sort of thing (IE, Renton going down the toilet, Renton sinking into the carpet after ODing, etc). I would have appreciated more of the original's fantastical edge even if I still enjoyed the sequel on the whole.

In my top 5 films both the trainspotting films are. In this scene, the way spud falls backwards off the roof and Renton catches him at the bottom. A true masterpiece, class acting, and a good insight to how those living with addictions live day to day.
1:53 simply beautiful... Its honestly rare for movies to show such tenderness and affection in straight male friendships, and they succeeded with that short and abstract shot
0:45 where Renton *just* catches the door to the block of flats before it closes. Spud wouldn't have wanted/been able to buzz him in if he'd had to wait. Fate alone brought him to Spud.
Hasn’t seen spud in 20 years. Dunno if he’s opening a door to a friend or enemy. He doesn’t know who spud is now……………… But one look at him in distress and without a seconds hesitation Renton (Jedi morality and reflexes) breaks through the door and saves his mate………. Ripping open the bag getting sick all over him. Renton doesn’t care, doesn’t slow down. Doesn’t treat spud like as little as 24 hours have passed, never mind 20 years. Once a mate, always a mate. Every suicidal one of us no matter how hopeless and worthless we might feel. the idea that at the moment of truth an old but close friend randomly appears after 20 Years kicks in your door and saves your life……. Imagine deep down that what the suicidal guy is praying for, somebody to stop him and convince him he’s not worthless, he doesn’t make the world ugly (not like Simon or begbie) Then that mate takes you on a run (admittedly I’d rather have does that run up that hill) But Renton does it to tell spud, you’ll always be an addict! So be addicted to something else! Which as an addict myself I found as really exciting advice, as if it’s the first advice I heard that actually sound like it could work. And Spud became a writer as his addiction, and the oboe suggest he’s pretty good at it, maybe even good enough to build himself a new life. Since spud is the avatar for Irvine Welsh in this movies
Absolutely great acting incredible screen work the dialogue is hilarious it's a great mix between sad funny and disgusting t2 and the original trainspotting are to phenomenal films :)

My dad was very much like spud, he had a lot of bad luck in his life and he turned to drugs when he was very young, he tried to quit but unfortunately he couldn't. So he felt very disappointed in himself and turned to his last dose of drugs and ended his life when I was three years old.
One reason I sometimes don’t like the sequel is because I don’t want to think Spud stayed a junkie. I wanted to keep thinking him winning at the end of the first film.
Kelly14UK aye. Like, he’s the best character in the film. Best actor which is amazing considering the talent. But I wish they’d still had him as broken,, say by bereavement or loss of work. Staying addicted for 20 years seems worse somehow.
True, but it's totally realistic that a junkie would blow the money on more dope. It's considerably less realistic that he'd still be alive twenty years later without getting clean though...
If it's any consolation, the ending of T2 does imply that he goes on the write and publish the novel Trainspotting... which in our world was a notable success.
Ewen Bremner earned 96 million pounds in a year following his incredible acting ability. He is a pure genius in engaging an audience. Worth every penny

No he wasn't. If you give someone a cake and they go on to gaining 400 lbs and dying from obesity then it's not your fault. Mark may have been a contributing factor but you can't blame him for it.
This scene is the scene that justifies the creation of this movie, and is the more than good enough reason too look past the movies flaws so you can understand what it's trying to say. The ending of the first movie gave a false impression that things were on the up, and maybe they were for Renton, and Sick Boy was gonna be okay. Begbie was going to jail but he deserved it 100%. But Spud finding that 4k in his locker might've seemed like a good thing for a character that we all cared for, but this scene finally tells the audience that Spud wasn't gonna be okay, and that's something that isn't necessarily obvious for someone who hasn't been a smack head themselves as 4k was an amount I could've easily blown in 6 weeks or less if I had it laying around when I was smoking heroin. And I was only smoking, Spuds character was shooting up

In my top 5 films both the trainspotting films are. In this scene, the way spud falls backwards off the roof and Renton catches him at the bottom. A true masterpiece, class acting, and a good insight to how those living with addictions live day to day.
1:53 such a beautiful shot
2:01 Unique submission to the collection of rebirth metaphor
Anthony yes, I noticed this too.
1:53 simply beautiful...
Its honestly rare for movies to show such tenderness and affection in straight male friendships, and they succeeded with that short and abstract shot
The music & when he metaphorically falls off the roof. Chills. This was a perfect sequel, even with its quirks.
This scene made me cry... not afraid to admit it...
Just magnificent when he catches spud just as he’s about to hit the ground...
One of, if not the best sequel in a long time.
Apotheosis - I need to see the entire thing.. I’ve just watched snippets on you tube, which isn’t really the way I should have gone about it.
I really want the instrumental version of this music
The song is “Eventually But” by Underworld if anyone was wondering.
thanks
Thank you so much... this song is wonderful
Thanks!!
I love that scene. I love nearly every scene in Trainspotting and T2
As some one who has attempted suicide in the past. This scene really hits close home to me.
I think All of us have have a Friend like spud
And it’s for this reason we love spud
Great idea having the lift numbers on the side of the building as renton goes up to spud's flat.
0:45 where Renton *just* catches the door to the block of flats before it closes. Spud wouldn't have wanted/been able to buzz him in if he'd had to wait. Fate alone brought him to Spud.
This scene is one of the many proofs of why cinema is the greatest form of art.
Spud was such a gentle soul. He would never hurt anyone, not even if he wanted to.
well, other than begbie when he smacked him with that toilet
my friend almost OD like this once he was mad i saved him but later thank the hell out of me.. love goes along way!
I didn't notice Spud lives on the 13th floor of the High flats. Unlucky number, unlucky man.
thanks a lot amigo
Hasn’t seen spud in 20 years.
Dunno if he’s opening a door to a friend or enemy.
He doesn’t know who spud is now………………
But one look at him in distress and without a seconds hesitation Renton (Jedi morality and reflexes) breaks through the door and saves his mate………. Ripping open the bag getting sick all over him. Renton doesn’t care, doesn’t slow down. Doesn’t treat spud like as little as 24 hours have passed, never mind 20 years.
Once a mate, always a mate.
Every suicidal one of us no matter how hopeless and worthless we might feel. the idea that at the moment of truth an old but close friend randomly appears after 20
Years kicks in your door and saves your life…….
Imagine deep down that what the suicidal guy is praying for, somebody to stop him and convince him he’s not worthless, he doesn’t make the world ugly (not like Simon or begbie)
Then that mate takes you on a run (admittedly I’d rather have does that run up that hill)
But Renton does it to tell spud, you’ll always be an addict!
I love how Danny Boyle does these scenes. Like showing him falling off the building into Rentons arms when he saved him.
It's a new born bouncy baby spud! !!Can speak.
Great film, the perfect good bye to one of my fave movies of all time.
Man that letter was heartbreaking, thank god Renton saved him
I love Spud and Mark. They're like old friends I haven't seen in 20 years.
this scene is masterpiece, lol.
Absolutely great acting incredible screen work the dialogue is hilarious it's a great mix between sad funny and disgusting t2 and the original trainspotting are to phenomenal films :)
i loved trainspotting because i was a junkie. did h for 10 years. now i love trainspotting 2 because its like a movie for those of us who made it out and grew up. the movies are so different and they both speak to different parts of me.
One of the best sequels ever.
Spud looks so old
That's cause of the heroin, and the lack of nutrition that comes with it.
of course , because its 20 years later....
Bright side: At leaat he didn't pass out vomiting. Then he'd have to give CPR.
Bleeeeurrrgh at THAT thought
Anyone find that the freezing of certain frames during various points of the film so powerful? Like - 2:32? Danny Boyle is an incredible director
The part during the ending when it freezes on Renton and Simon as kids always gets me
@@JTidiotboy in so many ways, I think the second film is better than the 1st.....but then the two are perfect
These are absolute masterpieces in their own right
You sure a frame was frozen there?
@evanhayes5891 yes you're right. Was no freeze frame there. I believe it's at 0:41 seconds in?
He didn't have to twist your arm to get involved in the deal, he even tried to discourage Spud from having anything to do with it.
I love the feeling of falling
REVOLTING yet still funny & touching xD
My dad was very much like spud, he had a lot of bad luck in his life and he turned to drugs when he was very young, he tried to quit but unfortunately he couldn't. So he felt very disappointed in himself and turned to his last dose of drugs and ended his life when I was three years old.
One reason I sometimes don’t like the sequel is because I don’t want to think Spud stayed a junkie. I wanted to keep thinking him winning at the end of the first film.
Same. And yeah. I hoped, back in the day, he'd use the 4,000 wisely.
J.S. Ward aye. Which is lovely at least.
Ewen Bremner earned 96 million pounds in a year following his incredible acting ability. He is a pure genius in engaging an audience. Worth every penny
T.D.M he’s worth 5 mill. Where did you get your info?
Spuds suicide note is so sad. Beautiful words that really represent what reading one feels like
"**Still am*""and and walk away at the end is so funny
Wow, that’s deep. I’ll have to watch the whole film now...
edinbrughs darker side now Dundee has taken that title junky city
Man If he didn't catch that door..
OMG WHAT I DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS 2ND ONE OMG.
He lived on the 13th floor. Nothing but bad luck for Spud.
Such a sad but great sequel
From teary eyed to fuhhhh when he throws up.
Whats this song called, cause it adds to atmosphere of the scen so much. Beautful scene, i nees to watch both these films. Ove only seen the youtube clips.
One step at a time, mate, just one simple step.
I laughed way too hard when he voimtted 😂
The tragedy of addiction when even your love for them can't pull you out of the death roll
Stop It, i Lost the love of my life
Renton was guilty for tommys death, but he saves spud’s life
"thats hardly a substitute"
No he wasn't. If you give someone a cake and they go on to gaining 400 lbs and dying from obesity then it's not your fault.
Mark may have been a contributing factor but you can't blame him for it.
@@colinjava8447 ... cake and heroin are not the same thing ... what a jerk
@@elduceallin5693 They can both be put into the body for pleasurable effect and both lead to death, so the analogy remains valid.
And I was only smoking, Spuds character was shooting up
Of course how Spud would have just blown that money on smack is true, but he in a sense did not deserve to be betrayed like that and Renton knew it.
This movie almost feels like it's not real. Like it's some dream I had.
I remember showing my mom the first Trainspotting movie and she got really grossed out with the Sheet scene. I tried showing her this movie when it came out, she left the room and refused to watch the rest of it when it came to the puke scene here. 😂😂😂
What a great film!
Omg that vomit scene, intense
Strangely both of these movies made me die laughing when i felt so low man i love this movie series 😂 spud was so unrated good heart great writer
Just after this film my relationship brokedown left me feeling this way that Christmas I bought the soundtrack to the film on vinal along with other records I got for my son the first thing my son put on his nice new turntable was T2 the first track on that side well it caught me right off guard and also my X were still apart but am still here
Spud cant get a break even when he tries suicide
It’s criminal Bremer wasn’t BAFTA nominated for this film. I know he won the Scottish one but he should have been nominated for the UK one
Well....Another happy landing!
"Thanks a lot Amigo!!"
Felt so sorry seeing him in the second film
Such a perfect scene.
PD: We love u Spud ❤
in t1 and t2 they all shot up in left hand ,exepct one scene when allison shot up swaney i a groin.....u cant always shot up in the same place
Igor Bojanic yes you can. I was a junkie for years and always spiked the same spot on my right forearm. I just got lucky with my veins. I knew plenty who had to shoot into their groin like Swanney. Some people can go in the same vein for years without a problem. Other people’s veins collapse in no time. It all depends.
