That Voice thing was intentional to give it metal relevance as the theme of the song was inspired by metal which you can see as most of the artists are surrounded in Metal cages!
ye kisi kisi ko samjh ati hay, ye actually me rock song hay like, linkin park or some famous metal rappers like Travis breaker.
1 or cheez me mention krna chahu ga ye teekhi awaz jo khas tor par metal rock ko suit krti hay, is ki 1 bari waja ye set bhi hay, set 1 old building me hay jaha awaz gunjati hay, or rock song surround krta hay.

Jhol and Turri jandi both songs are at different levels. And we want you to react to these two ASAP.
Respectfully, don't think you have cracked the full context behind changing the vocal texture. The thing with Coke Studio is that they don't go by the book which most composers and mixers (including you) seem to hang on to. They think out of the box hence why you will find them changing textures as per the song's requirement and soul. They are very deep which is why they are a stand out in the current music diaspora. Ever wondered why all Bollywood songs have the same monotonous sound and feel?

Also Imo the reason for keeping all the vocals layers a bit recessed was may be to give the song a live mixed on stage equalization vibe... And to focus on the rock metal production of the song

The review was good, but point to notice is that in Rock, the sound of Instruments always overtakes the Voice & the cmparison with the bollywood plain song was not at place, like that was of a different type so it cannot be compared to Rock music at all 😊
Sherri is the music producer of coke studio for season 14,15. Sherry is the guy to be praised just as much as Zulfiqar and Abdullah for all these bangers

I think the choices in the vocal mix is due to the "rock band" effect - the idea in a rock band is to emphasize the named banned members, not just the vocalist. So the instrumentation isnt meant to take a back seat. Sherry khatak was the main sound engineer for this coke studio season and is also the rock singer in the song, so I feel he very deliberately muted the vocalists a bit to let his band members have a bit more shine. But I love the call out and your song analysis
The vocals in the original song give an authentic metal vibe, but the changes you made to this song made it sound like a so-called Bollywood 'rock' song. This is why Hindi music often has the same typical vibe, where only the vocals and singers are appreciated, while musicians, music producers, arrangers, etc., go unnoticed.
