I turned 63 today and I am setting alone in my small apartment listening to this and truly feeling the heartache of getting old in a world that does not care for anything more than youth and money. It all passes so quickly. One day you're 16 and the world is bright and shiny and new and the next it is all old and broken and will never be fixed! Thank you for this song for my birthday!
Happy Birthday, Mate ;) Greetings.
@@paweopatka6064 Thanks! It can really feel lonely sometimes. I have had to start my life over and at 63 it is very difficult for me.
@@Arsinio1973 Thanks! A kind word is sometimes all it takes to make it an happy day!
i turned 63 a couple of months ago.... you perfectly expressed my feelings as well.
it all goes by too fast.
I hope you had a lovely birthday! And I think there are a lot of us out here feeling the same way. I hope this year brings you great things.
A song about growing old...which is happening way sooner than I thought.
Cheers to all of you who grew up with their music.

Great comment. Love
I’m in my late 30s now. I am also getting old. Sucks…
I'm in early 40's. I grew up with their music! Proud of
getting old!
Is "purple zone" an expression?
Wait until you're 50...
I'm 52 years old. The Earth has been spinning for millions of years, and I got to live on it at the same time as The Pet Shop Boys. And my life is ever the richer for it.
and many others who are no longer with us.People like Shane McGowan and Mark Hollis
Very well said, and true. (52 here too.) I fell in love with them via "Suburbia" in the summer of 1986 and I've been hooked ever since.
I'm 52 years old too. In the last few years my research into ancient and modern cosmology, ancient languages (particularly Hebrew and Greek), occult symbolism and secret societies, and plasma physics has led me to the conclusion that Earth is not spinning or moving at all and is a little over 6,000 years old.
@@SSa12406 Do you have the evidence to back up your claims? That's all that counts, the only thing that counts. If so, I would encourage you to share your findings with the global Scientific community and collect your Nobel Prize.
@@SubconsciousGatherer The Michelson-Morley, Michelson-Gale, Sagnac Effect, and Airy's Failure experiments all proved that Earth is stationary. Then, along came the fuzzy-haired crackpot Einstein with his bogus equations to obfuscate the proof. WMAP also proved geocentrism. The problem is, the scientific community is mostly
1. controlled by the ancient mystery religion who know the truth but promote a lie (heliocentrism/gravity/relativity). This includes NASA.
2. blinded by the influence of those lies.
There are no lies in the inspired Scriptures and they reveal geocentrism and the true nature of the cosmos within the languages used (Hebrew and Greek). For example, Amos 9:6 describes the cosmos as a multi-layered torus formed from electromagnetic "bands" (Hebrew: _aguddah_). Genesis 8:2 describes those bands as forming a lattice (Hebrew: _arubbah_). You can get an idea of this magnetic lattice structure with a homemade ferrocell and a magnet. The sun, moon, and stars are all contained within that torus which is generated by Earth's electromagnetic core. It rotates once per day. The entire universe is electromagnetic. There is no gravity.
The Scriptures also reveal that this powerful ancient secret society also control governments and empires, past and present, which includes their scientific communities. (Revelation 17:9)
In addition, the ancient occult fleur-de-lis symbol and the Egyptian djed pillar represent the backbone of that torus. You can see the symbol everywhere you go, including on and in ancient religious and government buildings, and even on railings and ironworks at the end of people's driveways and roofs, sometimes with the solar cross integrated.
The man who invented gravity, Isaac Newton, was an occultist who was Grand Master of a secret society known as the Priory of Sion. Their emblem is, in part, the fleur-de-lis.
I have created videos revealing this knowledge and I also present more evidence in my Quora science Space. Believe me, this knowledge will soon be validated. (Daniel 12:4) Then I will receive my "Nobel Prize" from my nobel God who sent me to restore all these things and to bring light to all nations. (Matthew 17:11; Isaiah 49:5,6)
I am 75 years old and after all the doom and gloom what a brilliant song, brings back many memories, Soft Cell and PSB at their best, can't wait to get the Album.
Keep dancing to PSB and SOFT CELL
Its called suicide.. look into it..
Love it too good on you xx
Your so right I'm 55 and hearing this brings me back to great times enjoy x
Chris Lowe and Dave Ball were both born in 1959 in Blackpool and went to school together, so it was an old friends reunion.
It's truly astounding that these 80's relics are writing better songs than all the youngsters today. Millennials and Gen Z are "Paralyzed in the Mediocre Zone."
Relics? I'd rather say treasures :)
@@0504Revati
I meant to say, treasured relic.
Sooo So true... Very well said...
This would have been a massive hit if it had been recorded in the late 80's....
Fantastic song and video! Love that moment when Chris is having a bit of a boogie and Neil is almost? laughing.
Considering I originally got into Pet Shop Boys back in 1986 because they were the nearest thing I could find to Soft Cell after Soft Cell disbanded in 1984, this is a simultaneously curious and very welcome convergence :)
@@TheEmptytube If I'm honest, I'm oddly unmoved by anything I've heard from the forthcoming album so far. But I have it on pre-order and remain quietly hopeful because I always liked the "album tracks" more than the singles with Soft Cell :)

I have traveled the world. I will turn 56. I remember dancing as a teenager to softcell in Los Angeles. Travel the world. It stretches life out to be much longer. Instead of living in the same city. Working the same job. Accept less money and less things to see the world!! It’s incredible!! If your young and reading this. Travel. Travel. Travel.

Now, @ 55, I just realized that these 'guys' have run outta dough & are trying to steal it from people who might be struggling later in their lives.
Hey Pet Shop'Boys & Soft-Cell...go FFF yourselves. 😀

You said it best. I'm 56
Fuck yeah, I can endorse this message, LETS GET OUT OF THIS LIFE, AND BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO CREATE A BETTER ONE.
I'm a fan of both Soft Cell and PSB. I'm 57. Been a fan since the 80s. Thanks gang.
Big fan of the PSB, this is a cheery song in a strange way, just what we need in todays environment!!
Soft Cell _AND_ Pet Shop Boys in the same song? Hell yeah! I still crank up the radio whenever 'Tainted Love' or 'West End Girls' comes on.
What a collaboration, SOFT CELL, PET SHOP BOYS. Two of my favorited bands of the 80s.
wow their voices work so well together!!
I'm 23 and seeing all the comments made me see the song with another meaning, I became sensitive to knowing that life is ephemeral for everyone and at some point we have all felt afraid of life no matter the age.
A hug to everyone and let's enjoy this great song!
The interesting mix of people in the video is so cool. The lady in the pink dress when she makes eye contact with the camera at 1:55! Her eyes are captivating! The punk lady is very beautiful too.
Remember and cherish the young and old we left behind 🙏🏼
We are all getting older. I'm 57 but let's live life while we can
Touche i am 55 turning 56 this year, oh Lord it went quick, but I have these rich beautiful memories of these 80s ICONS!
As I can see I am not the only one who was getting older. Love you guys.
Catchy. Nice to see Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys together
Wow that's soooo PSB !!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍🤩🤩
This is the Gen X anthem. Once we were the future. Now we're the past.
Millennial here...I feel the same way.
I know we all hear the clock ticking a little louder every year, but if anyone deserves to claim this as an anthem, it would be the Baby Boomers. They've been reduced to a dismissive meme ("ok boomer") yeah some of them deserve it, but many of them don't. They know better than us what it feels like when society decides you're no longer relevant.
(Yes, I know someone very clever and edgy is going to reply "ok boomer" to me lol, go for it.)
(That said, I love how THEY aren't claiming it as a Boomer anthem and the diverse ages in the video illustrates the universality of the feeling. It's so good.)
Waited 40 years for this, and finally it happened!!
Seeing such great pillars of the 1980's music world always takes me back to the 1980's as I refuse to get older and will exercise, stay fit and on edge for life!
Love this song from very talented people. Thanks Soft Cell and The Pet shop boys 👍🙂

It is a pity he is peddling those evil face masks. The rest of the video is charming except for the sinister face mask part which is totally wicked evil and unnecessary.
What a collaboration! This is the sort of music we hv waited years for!!!!
The more I listen to this, the harder it hits
This is practically perfect! Why is this not a no. 1 hit? If it were the 80s or 90s I bet it would have been.
Yes, it is 2022, young people don't react to people who are almost 70. Get used to it.
Disrespectful comment, how dare you.
@@ghosthroughx9292 Sadly it's true. These legends are still making FANTASTIC music and all young people care about is Tick and Tock and whatever plastic manufactured-bullshit pop tune. That's OK these guys have nothing to prove to anyone. We know that they are amazing and killing it at 70!
@@jensstickan168not only that, but I also felt that the Pet Shop Boys lost the popularity and interest from the people around late 90s, when the both Pet Shop Boys members turned into 40s.
Is it that reason why Johny Cashs hurt cover was so popular by simply everyone?@@jensstickan168
This song gives me "always on my mind" vibes
Such a great tune. I'll be 60 next year, and have no idea where the time has gone. It's frightening, really. I first started listening to Soft Cell in 1981, when I was 18. I still love their music.
A favourite track of theirs is also about aging: it's the achingly sad 'Youth' from 'Non Stop Erotic Cabaret'. It gets more real the older I get, I have found.
I get you am 60 in nov 😁
Youth... Beauty is skindeep...
My favourite track of theirs is still "Sex Dwarf" (the "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret" version).
I'm just a few years younger, I was the kid who dyed their hair black in my parents peach bathroom in the 1980s (that was a bit of a to do I can tell you!) back combing it as I smoked a marlboro red at my open bedroom window, burned patchouli and Sandalwood incense and played Siouxsie and the Banshees Juju cassette (and a Gothic mix tape from a friend) applying back eye liner (badly) and packing my black canvas bag with a sketch book, pencils, cassettes, batteries (for the boom box) cigarettes and a 2 litre bottle of cider. We may be getting older, but damn we have some insane and brilliant memories!
@@cocteaut - Apart from the cigarettes, me too!
I live in a rural part of the UK, and in the early 1980's, some of the inhabitants weren't blessed with much imagination - I was once refused service in a country pub, for the simple reason that I was wearing black nail polish. For some reason, that offended the landlord. No mention was made of my hair, or the bangles, or the eyeshadow. No. The nail polish really annoyed him. My friends and I had no trouble from the other drinkers in the pub - indeed, a few had a go at the landlord, when he refused to serve me.
Amazing, loved both of the bands in the 80s, loved their talent and their music. Just turned 57 recently and have been nostalgic listening to a lot of the 80s music recently and someone just recommended this to me on one of the comments I left. Oh wow, this is so amazing, still so good and enjoy it just as much as I have their stuff from before. Amazing, never heard this before and love it.
Red letter day meets always on my mind
Lyrics.
Let's get out of this life
I'm afraid and alone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
My time goes so slow
And I don't know how the show will end
I'm losing all my feeling
Emotion I pretend
So let's get out of this life
I'm afraid and alone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
Let's get out of this life
I'm afraid and alone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
All the fleeting moments of beauty
You blinked and then they were gone
Now you're sitting there wondering
Just where it all went wrong
No glory, no glamour, too many confusions
Coloring all my delusions
Paralyzed in the purple zone
One day you will wake
From your sleep of the dead
Kick out the strangers
Asleep in your bed
And you'll cry out
Let's get out of this life
I'm afraid and alone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
Let's get out of this life
I'm afraid and alone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
Let's get out of this life (purple zone)
I'm afraid and alone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
Paralyzed in the purple zone
There is no way out.
