No one knows what kind of work that is until they do one. I watched my Dad do one. Hour upon hour until it was done just to his taste. It was truly a labor of love. Thank-you for posting, brought back memories of my father....Excellent job you and your family did.
Glad it brought you good memories. I know we will cherish the boat forever. It will be extremely hard to sell when the time comes. Selling will only happen when it's time to upgrade to our retirement boat.
True labors of love! What a great way to strengthen the family bond.
We all learned a lot.
You all did a GREAT job on that boat!
Thanks Mike. Our ice is almost gone, we should be sailing within a month:)
Great Family great job! So nice! The cushions, pillows and varnish! Now enjoy!
Michael D. Thanks. It was a ton of work, but enjoyed every minute.
wow ! nice job by everyone the finished project looks amazing. White piping on the cockpit cushions sure looks fine and so does the hull paint job. Got to be happy with that.
7.62 full metal, It took a total of 10 months to finish everything. It turned out great. Can't wait until our snow melts so we can get her on the water again.
Finally a sailing video with decent music!
Hello TEllett,
We just use the You Tube Creator Music most of the time.
Thanks for the comment.
Beautiful job on the restoration and video, it's great to see your whole family getting involved.
Thank you. It took a lot of hard work to get the boat back into shape. It should give us many years of enjoyment. Thanks for watching our video and we are glad you liked it.
Well done nice boat
Thanks Adam.
Greetings from California.! WOW, really a great job on bringing her back to life!!!! Nice to see your whole family getting involved. All the best, Monte Fleet 4 Catalina 22 club in Folsom California.
Hello Monte Whitefield, we bought a new old boat and will be conducting restoration on it over the upcoming winter. We are now empty nesters and needed a project to keep the two of us busy. We hope to do a better job of video documenting the process. Sadly it is not a Catalina, I don't know what I was thinking. Thanks for the comment.
@@SailingLandlocked So what did you buy?
@@SloMo2723, 1972 Macgregor 21 and trailer. We will be restoring and selling when we finish.
Nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Absolutely fantastic! The boat looks amazing. I hope you guys enjoy her on the water!
Allen Michaels, thank you. Nexus has been a lot of fun sailing. Sadly our lakes are frozen again.
Looks great. Enjoy the sailing.
We will be sailing again soon. As soon as all of the ice melts. Only 2 to 3 months to go.
Excellent video. Looking forward to more.
Thanks for the comment, we will keep them coming.
You made it seem so easy! Nice job on the boat!
Thanks Ray. It definitely was not easy. But it has been great to be able to sail in a like new vessel.
What a nice job you all have done!
I have always wanted to sail. Went to enquire about lessons and saw a C 22 for sale. Wish I knew more about what I was looking at. None the less I'm gonna take those lessons. I just might become a sailor.
Hello Gregory, I would recommend watching "Learn How To Sail - with Penny Whiting". The video can be found on Amazon video. She does a great job teaching. That is actually how we learned how to sail.
nice life, a sailboat and a beautiful wife
Happy wife. Happy life.
Awesome job!
Thanks Darin
@@SailingLandlocked I just bout a Catalina 22 so your video was inspiring! 👍
inspiring video
Many thanks.
Great job! I need to get mine done now... thanks for the inspiration! Well worth subscribing to... fair winds!
The trick is, once you start don't give up. There were times we were all tired of the restoration process but if you just keep at it the end result is worth it.
Restoring a Catalina 25 myself. Great advice! Thanks!
Nice job...! Beautiful .....
Thank you.
Great job! thanks for sharing!
Thanks Gary, your video was our inspiration when things got tough. I watched it many times during our restoration process. So many thanks to you too!
Wow, Thanks! And thanks for showing my vid at the end of yours! your boat looks amazing! Your wife did an amazing job on the cushions! ,
You wont believe this....a friend of mine just gave me a 1975 Catalina 22 with a trailer, the trailer has a broken hub, but it is all there, it is in rough shape ,Im going to restore it this summer. i had a great time doing my boat it has a certain therapeutic value for me.
I'm going to steal your idea on the numbers on the front!!!! i never thought of that, that really looks awesome. Again Great Job!
Good luck on the new project. Make sure you save some time for sailing.
Envious. Wish I had considered sailing long before I did when I was young. Sounds like you guys have it covered. Dave and Jaja Martin began sailing around the world after he met her in South America sailing his first boat. They cruised the world with their 3 children (maybe 4, I forget) before finally returning to landlubbers. I was raised in IN, moved to AR in late 20s then to OK with my two kids and first wife in 1980 at 32. Now live on a lake but have wanted to sail for years. Go for it while you can.
Tony Wedding watch the documentary Chasing Bubbles
Hello Tony, Thank you for subscribing. We just spent a week enjoying the sailing lifestyle. Sadly we need to continue working for a few more year before we can take the plunge. We plan on sailing in the Caribbean after retirement. Trying to save as mush as possible to retire early. Wish we could win the lottery, we would be sailing tomorrow.
Awesome!
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Hope you enjoy sailing, I know how much work it is to get a old T24 ready to sail. I'm 83 and can sail alone, but it is sure great to have a crew.
All three of us enjoy sailing. Yes, it sure is a blessing to have a crew. Thanks for the comment and support.
Nice job
Hello Greg 68, Thanks for the comment. We are looking forward to the upcoming sailing season. We are only a month or so away from getting back on the water.

Thank you for your support.
Great job and cushions! Have a Cat 22 and the interior got wet! Table Delaminated and quite a mess! have fun!! I Am!
We had water damage on the step just inside the companionway and the cover over the crank for the keel. I was able to shape a new panels for replacement. Yes, we are having a blast. Were you able to find a new table top?
I made one out of birch plywood and put the bottom pieces from original . Stained and covered in epoxy. Need to send you a photo!
Nice! Keep up the good work!
I wrote you months ago that I was thinking of rescuing one of these gorgeous little boats. Well...hoping to get her on the water early May. Shes far from perfect but I just love her. Checking things off my list. New motor, marine battery, anchor and road, insurance...I'm sure you know. Thank you for the tip on Penny. She makes sailing a bit less intimidating. Good teacher. May I ask what brand of bottom paint you used? And if it's an off the shelf color? I love the color so much I would like the same. Won't happen this season but this fall maybe. Finally i hope you and your wonderful family are well and healthy in these trying times. I work in nursing and am exiled from pretty much everyone at this point. Dreams of sailing and working on this little boat on rare down time are keeping me going.
Hello Gregory,
Glad to hear of your restoration project. We used Total Boat JD Select. www.totalboat.com/product/jd-select-ablative-antifouling-paint/. It has been a great paint for us. We used the teal color. So far so good with the virus. We both work in essential services but luckily in a rural area. Send some photos when you get on the water. Fair winds to you.
Beautiful!
How did you redo the cushions in yours? I'm considering taking some marine vinyl and my cushions to a local tailor and seeing if they can redo them with velcro rather than zippers. Any tips for me? Looks great!
Watched RUclips video from Sailrite, lots of broken needles later, turned out great.
I like very straight forward videos like this...
by the way sir, U give me hope of real "LOVE" too
Hello Tsar Pushkin, Thanks for the comment.
Beautiful job!! Our C22 needs a paint job as well. What paint did you use for deck and topsides? Thanks!!
I didn't watch to the very end and I see it looks like you used Total Boat Wet Edge. Looks fantastic! Thanks for the video. Happy sailing!
The Total Boat paint has been a good product. The only mistake we made was using it on the rudder. Nexus was in the water all summer, the rudder now has small blisters. Nothing a little sanding and some bottom paint can't fix.
I'm gonna salvage my cushions, wish I could get some of the original material.
We reused the foam from our original cushions. It was in good shape yet. Covers were another story. Good luck with your project.
Just add some salt
We would love to!
Nice video, but hate music in videos.
Thanks for the comment and constructive criticism. Do you have a recommendation?
@@SailingLandlocked Not really, I would prefer not to hear music at all, in any video.
