My search for the perfect pick ended when I got my first 4mm V-Picks Snake Ghost Rim.
Never thought of using the non point side of the pick. Just tried after watching this. I like it!
Thanks Corey! I am using Dunlop 0.73 right now, I will try 0.60 & 0.88. I used other pickups, always fun to try some new ones.
Dunlop Primetone (smooth) 1.5 for electric, 2.0 for archtop. Wegen Bluegrass 1.4mm for acoustic. And lest I forget, Fred Kelly Slick Pick for the thumb.

Interesting feedback!! I'm using always Dunlop pickups, but 2mm for electric guitar and very thin for acoustic, I'm used to that gauges, but maybe worths to try others and see what happens. Thanks for this video.

I love the Dunlop Primetone and the flow .73. I hate hard picks but the Primetone is so smooth. My picking technique is horrible. Picks like jazz 3 or the green .88 tortex get caught on the strings. I never thought about the shoulder of a pick, though.
I played super thin picks for years. Choking up on it to get a tighter feel if I need more control.. But recently switched to 3mm Jazz 3 style picks. Such a change but I'm diggin' how they work and change my playing style..
If you like the feel of Blue Chip but like more clarity- try the Casein by D’addario- loving these picks. Very clear without the “click” of celluloid
Ordered some Lollar pickups. They came with a Lollar pick. Loved it..ordered more..V picks retired now..seriously!

Ha. I’ve been doing the same thing for about a week. Tortex ,ultex, celluloid, nylon. Standards, jazzIII, pointed tip, rounded tip. It’s actually quite maddening.

Started on Fender mediums like most of us, then switched to Dunlop .88, to 1.14, to 0.73 Nylon.... then I discovered the Jazz III, then the max grip Jazz III..... Now, I’m on to the Dunlop Flow 1.5 and I can barely play the J3.... Fun journey, us guitar players are strange folks.
Tortex flow 1.35 . I always used more than 2 mm. Going to below 1 mm was just to weird for me. I don’t want my pick to flex. Always loved the flow design with tortex rigidity, the pick works great. Width is also nice esp if you are playing live standing up. Smaller jazz 3 always slipped out of my hand.
I have been using the V'Picks for almost 20 years now. Tho only thing I don't LOVE about them is the price.
Great video Corey!!! So you like the Dunlop 0.60 a lot…can you play leads well with that thinner pick ? You know the other day I was reading that Paul Gilbert is using 0.50 picks and he loves them so much!!! He changed from Heavy to thinner picks gauges 🤷🏻♂️

It’s a whole different vibe. Kinda fun and really changed my playing instantly. It’s like having options now
@@coreycongilio my latest discovery this past year was that moving the pick down a bit at the thumb, so not at the tip of the thumb, makes my hand relax and therefore makes my lines more legato. Don't know if this makes sense? I don't really understand it ;-).
Dunlop Nylon 1mm (black)...best of both worlds! 30 years and counting for me....Sx

I've got a Dunlop 207 which I decided to try after reading that Molly Tuttle used them. I LOVE the shape. Just perfect for me. I just wish they did them in different thicknesses as sometimes I want a bit more flex for certain sounds.
Hey Grant - very late to this comment but if it helps in your pick quest, the Dunlop 207 is the basis for the newer Flow range of picks that Dunlop, in Ultex and Tortex, with a wide range of thickness for as much flex as you need. Exactly the same shape!
@@johngregsonguitar I'm not sure that's quite correct. The Flow range have much more of a point than the Dunlop 207. I think they might actually be based on the 208. It's the less pointed tip of the 207 that I really like.

Graph Tech TUSQ picks, Corey! The Harmonic Pick (I should receive a lifetime supply for this plug). Once you try them, you might never go back! I also use the blunt end of the pick.. glides nicely for rhythm and with a little turn you can dig in when the need arises. Love what you do, man! Keep Up the Great Work!

Dunlop prime tone jazz iii grip .88 has very large grip surface-you hold the pick loose. the 'grip' really keeps the pick in place, hold it loose.
Great video! I've never gotten why players like using what, to me, seems like a cement trowels as picks. When it comes to picks I took a lesson BB King gave to Billy Gibbons about using heavy strings: "Why are you working so hard?", and applied it to pick choice. I've used Tortex .73 for +20years now. I even managed to find some made for Harley, so they're black and not banana yellow. They let me get some nice mellow tones and get punch and speed when I need it. Some of my guitar friends would bust on me for using a "newbie" pick, but I'd hand one to them and tell them to keep and try it for a while. I converted quite a few, at least part-time, when they weren't shredding with their 1.5 jazz trowels.
Definitely going to try that rounded edge sound!

The reason why I prefer a heavy 4mm stiff pick is that it makes even the thickest strings feel like butter. It gives me much better control over the strings and has literally me 2x more capable player when it comes to the picking hand. A thinner pick that bends in between my fingers is nothing but a detriment for my playing. And I can play even some funk rythm stuff well enough with the 4mm pick.

Yeah, I have been a .73 fan for years... I used to use .71 Gator Grip forever. Until I tried The Tortex .73. Now I am a huge fan of the Tortex .73. However, for definite variations in sound, I have Primetone .73, Flow .73 and Ultex .73... These all sound awesome and are perfect for my style of playing, and they all have a very distinct sound difference!!!

Probably so!
I like the most Dunlop Ultex, Triangle Pick, various thicknesses according to the strength of the strings and the type of guitar - acoustic or electric, 6 or 12 strings.
After many attempts with different types of picks, these sound best for my ears. And as an improver, I drill 3 holes in the middle to hold them better in my fingers. The belly of the fingers and thumb fit beautifully into those holes and hold.
Anything over .88 mm is just too much for me ... feels harsh and like I'm fighting the pick.
