When I did mine I used both synthetic and normal rit dye, used bricks to the shoes in the water and didn’t mix the dye into the water too much beforehand. Have a good textured finish
I did the same with a pair of new balances, I mixed both synthetic and natural dye, and dyed them for shorter period of time, washing the dye off in the middle of the process. This method produces a more subtle, “washed out” look closer to the less vibrant tones found on the Boris’s
@@ks220 any shoe glue can melt around 82°C, so I’d suggest putting one of those cooking temperature meters in the water and don’t dip the shoes if the water is any hotter then 55°C / 131°F
I've only painted a prop for a short film once, but I'd try dabbing the (non-diluted) paint with a piece of cloth, dabbing most of the paint off onto paper, and then just dragging the paint across the outsole lightly for a couple passes. It's meant to give (painted) scratches to a surface more naturally and I think it'd help bring out a weathered look for anyone wanting one.
Antwon, I want to commend you for the ways in which you are growing the channel and diversifying your content. You always take the time to think things through, new concepts are always related to the channel's core focus and is always genuine, entertaining and informative. Not many youtubers dedicated to niche topics can say the same.
Great job! You convinced me. I’m doing this - I just need to decide which shoes to choose I was already thinking to potentially replace the laces, so I’m glad you’re thinking the same way. And I hope you do this again! I’d love to see your next attempt
The result looks so good! I would love to see you try this out again! Maybe this time you could try to mix dyes together, like use half a bottle of blue and half a bottle of grey for a less saturated navy colour. You could also experiment with not properly mixing both dyes together, to make the dyeing process less uniform... I've been meaning to try it out on some t-shirts and have some dye laying around, but I've not mustered up the courage to do so yet haha
Dear Ant, I noticed that thankfully you started to wear protective gloves further down the line. You should really mention that in the beginning that this bit is important when working with Rit Dye More. Love the result! I think it would look even better if using either less of the color or mixing it with black/grey to mute it the saturation. I've dyed the Salomon Speedcross 3 before using only surface dyes (you might've seen them on the DWG discord) but after using Rit Dye More on a jacket I wanted to use it on shoes at some point as well. Glad to see that it works just as well on shoes. Will probably dye a white Salomon grey with some color accent at some point.
Just started watching, try taking a bucket put water up to about halfway the shoe, take 2 containers that can drip the dye water, and have it do a quick drip down onto the top of the shoe/side
For gradient is good to soak in clear water the shoes first, than dip in dye solution with less dye, take out, add dye and dip again in the darker solution
Awesome job man, this is something that is in my style. Also for loud sneakers especially this is one, you can go deep with colors. Purple goes well with blue and red so you can splash it well if you can step out your comfort zone.
i did a similar thing to my old airsoft boots and it turned out pretty great! if you wanna achieve the uneven dye look, i would suggest that to do it manually instead while being inconsistent on brushing the shoe with the dye
I've got some neon orange lace lock laces on my orange & blue Nike Free Run 2 shoes & they're great! Look futuristic, feel great, and are super utilitarian.
this video was super fun! seeing modifications on clothing in general is super cool and interesting & I would love to see an update if they are going for a second dive into dye 🎨
As an average Guerrilla Group enjoyer, I always ask about your opinion on new GG products. I was rewarded at the end seeing you with the future cowboy pants.
I honestly like the ombre effect at the back the most. If you did a second dye of those shoes, I'd personally try and weigh down the backs so that the toes poked out of the dye, and have that effect at both the front and the back.
You need to apply the dye directly onto the fabric of the shoe with either a small folded up piece of cotton or a small rounded stone and not using the bucket with dipping the whole shoe in - you got a pretty even finish. And dont use hot water , use cold water - dab on with whatever implement- dip in cold water bath wash off excess - repeat process dab on more ink- wash in cold water bath with vinegar . Some use a sponge but most sponges are not the best for this job . You can use the drag technique with folded up bits of fabric using a cotton cloth soaked in dye it comes out unreal on tops trying to create that dark stonewash tech vibe.
mate, those are 😍 great idea, good execution. The multiple dye process is really necessary for the more complex colors, also when doing multiple dye use lighter colors first, and feel free to use different dye times (soak duration) for different colors, it creates really nice depth. Love the video Ant! AND THOSE GG PANTS!!!! I need to know how they are on! I have added and removed the black pair from my shopping cart ten times in the last week. 🙏🙏
great work! its worth noting that angelus also do dyes for shoes, as well as having all the official Nike colours in their range. you can spot them online, they'll have red caps.
I saw a Japanese guy doing the same thing. He wrapped his sneakers in the cloth before putting them in the bucket and in the end he got a much better result with uneven color. So if anyone wants to try it out I really suggest you searching Japanese RUclips
Nah it was just my imagination 😅 He was just assuming that they did it to get uneven color. Anyways here is the video ruclips.net/video/jGyT_a0Quz4/видео.html
Ha! I dyed my hair last week. It was meant to be indigo, but turned out lavender purple too. Really enjoyed this video. Would love to see more custom mods. 💜
Time for a update on the acronym death stranding jacket how its held up with lots of wear. Also I swear that the only reason why it takes awhile for your to come out, is coming up with a opening.
All been great so far! Some features are more useful than others (e.g. sleeve hitch tabs which I never use) but there's so much to it that there's a lot to like. Would definitely recommend the J1A to people who want a 'proper' Acronym jacket
Repeated with a ‘dirty’ mix of dyes to produce a more industrial colours would be awesome. Also - BBS did do a season of ‘half dyed’ semi-submerged shoes
You definitely gave me inspiration, just ordered a Asics Gel-Quantum 180, Asics Gel Nandi OG "White" , Asics Gel Diablo "Stone Grey" , New Balance 550 "White Grey" and a Adidas Ultraboost 4.0"White" to have a go at 😁paints I ordered are royal blue, black, charcoal, white, azure, magenta and electric green
Had been thinking about that ever since I saw that post of the homemade solarised ACW Vomero 5. Great video, I'll give it a shot myself! Asics and Reebok are perfect for this imho
Look sick, definitely something you can wear as well. Have a pair of all white Nike Ndestrukts that I originally bought to do some Angelus painting but I couldn't think of anything to do on them. Definitely feel that they will dye nicely as the have a load of leather panels as well as a mesh side. Thinking green as Ive got plenty of purple sneakers and originally was thinking green when I got them.
Another thing you can do to give this more Depth on the midsole is to do a black wash. Essentially dilute some paint and put it on a bunch then immediately whipe it off lightly making sure that the color stays in all the little nooks and crannies.
omfg I actually just yesterday stumbled on this amazing salomon collab and watched your video on it as well. Because of that I also searched for the video you promised to do back then, and after not finding that I looked for others who tried it. Sadly was unsuccessful but now I stumble upon this!
I have a pair of Ozweegos that I was considering dyeing, they have large portions of white mesh material, some beige suede elements, and they have some reflective material that I really like about them. My questions are: 1. will the reflective material still work if I put the shoes through a dyeing process similar to what Antwon did? 2. what colors would work best? As I said, they are white/beige. I was thinking about brown and dark navy/grey, but do I combine the 2 colors in 1 wash or do I put the shoes through 2 separate washes? Thanks in advance for any piece of advice
I honestly think the best way to replicate the look is too actually paint each panel by hand with dye or to possibly certain apply chemicals to the upper so that the pattern of the chemical will take the dye in whatever messy pattern it was applied in. Either way, I'm definitely gonna do this again in the future, most likely to my white acronym forces!
Sick´ ! Was thinking doin that since that girl with the green Nb p pack posted a reel on Ig. I will definitely try ! With some grey added those purple would be insane
Suitably impressed by this video. I just wonder how the Asics would’ve looked in comparison to the BBS original if you used a grey dye. I’ve already swapped my standard laces on a pair of Salomon hiking books (X Ultra mid 3 Aeros) with a Quicklace pair bought on Amazon which only took 10-15mins. They’d look great on your custom dyed pair
drops of melted candle wax might have maintained some of the original white colour during the dye process -- nice fade result with the overly buoyant heels i'd probably go in hard now with browns, black and red leather paint details -- and maybe some silver highlights
Hey I'm pretty new to techwear and I wanted to ask something. Maybe the question is not about the video, but I would like to know if the Super Dry brand can be included in the techwer?
I'm not Ant but I hope you can do something with my opinion anyway lol. Super Dry has more of that casual outdoorsy vibe usually, it's pretty utilitarian without going for the unusual but useful specs and features seen in techwear. I'm sure some of their pieces could be considered techwear, or you might be able to style them in a techwear context. But by itself it looks rather "normie" if you will. Nothing wrong with that though. You don't need 3000 straps and cobra buckles to have a performant piece of clothing. And even in a techwear context not everything has to be from r/techwear approved brands. For me techwear is about combining function with a futuristic form, if that goal can be met by including more affordable casual stuff, all the better. You'll find your own way too
wearing boris while playing with dye is absolute bravery/insanity. Looks goood! Please more!
Wouldn't that just make them better though? ;D
@@Fumwum ant x Boris. Sold out in minus one minute before launch.
I was trembling after i saw that
These genuinely look really good!
Thanks!
I think Antwon should do gray dye next. Or black.
agreed, the colour wouldn't be my choice but genuinely thinking about trying this, it's kind of cool
When I did mine I used both synthetic and normal rit dye, used bricks to the shoes in the water and didn’t mix the dye into the water too much beforehand. Have a good textured finish
Do you have any pictures of it?, I was wondering about the effects of dying them with normal and synthetic dye for a greater color depth.
Purple was a brave choice lol
You should do another round with the blue. I would like to see how that would turn out.
It really was 😅 yeah, I think I will once i try out some different fits in their current version
I did the same with a pair of new balances, I mixed both synthetic and natural dye, and dyed them for shorter period of time, washing the dye off in the middle of the process. This method produces a more subtle, “washed out” look closer to the less vibrant tones found on the Boris’s
FYI: The glue they use on shoes can melt if you put it in water that’s over 82°C.
learned this the hard way. Also had some slight shrinkage.
😩
How bad is it? What Shoes did you use?
