Pharrell is simply relaying a popular message that is actually theologically incorrect. Not every single thing happens as part of "God's plan". We have free will. We make our own choices. What is actually meant by "God's plan" is simply the path he wishes for us to take not the path he ensures we take. So we can live in a way that is entirely contrary to the plan God wanted for us.
