@@JoeIngles96 PG13 is not coming to the Lakers most especially because they can't afford him. So move on from that fantasy. Pelinka will need to add more realistic two-way wing players in the off-season of which Jovan listed a few.
Biggest priority is addressing the center position. We need a legitimate #2 big that can either play when AD is on bench resting or also be able to play alongside him during streches allowing AD to play at the 4 then at times. A component big that can play 15-20 mins a night and be a great rebounder, and someone that can score close range and help disrespect paint defensively would go along way. I know wood is coming back and ik there's probably a shot Hayes comes back and i think both of those guys are decent but as a third/ fourth option depending on position. Aside from addressing the big. We need to upgrade the starting 5. Bron and AD were both phenomenal in series vs Denver. If the 3 other starters would have put up there average stats during the season in playoff series vs nuggets we would have easily won. The 3 of DLO, Rui and Reaves were basically terrible the majority of series. Mainly DLO and Rui. I like those guys but i just don't see how you can bring them both back atleast 1 has to go. The starting 5 has to have a legitimate defender at wing position and someone that you can rely on to play there role consistently even in playoffs. Lastly the bench. It was flat out horrific probably the worst bench unit I've ever seen. You know it's bad when Taurean Prince literally had all of the bench points being the only player to score off bench majority of series. I get Gabe was coming back from missing the whole year and basically out there for his good defense, and obviously no Vando, Wood, or Reddish but still. To go in a playoff series and basically have only 1 player do anything off bench is insane. Gotta upgrade the bench. Honestly something as simple as Carusso, Drummond, and adding one solid player off bench would go along way. Or the route of getting Dejounte Murray a near star player that is a great defender and offensive player being able to play both sides of the ball something this team lacks.
I still stand by my notion that the Lakers need an attacking pg/sg with all-star potential and that player is Jaden Ivey who may be available. I would target him and Stewart who solves the backup big problem. If we are going to throw out Hypothetical trades like I have been seeing then they are obtainable. Detroit is going to clean house besides Cade and probably Ausar. A free agent possibility if he opts out that interests me is Jalen Smith From Ind who is a sleeper. Max must play next year and I think will be ready. AR Ivey Vando Bron AD Stewart Smith Max maybe add CP3 Marshall or bring back Prince. Hopefully Maxwell if still here can take a leap!
I love your analysis. How about looking at existing team players could improve next. For example, I think AR should work on his 3 point shooting and D this summer. Maybe he could become a 3 & D player.
After thinking about it, Lakers don't really have any moves that will make us contenders right away. Donovan Mitchell is intriguing but at what cost? I think our priorities should be to upgrade Rui and get an above average center that can take some of the load off of AD. I'm on the fence about DLo, but I don't think he hurts our chances. Once we upgrade a few pieces, I think it will come down to chemistry and good coaching.
Great comments and very thoughtful Where I differ is over: 1. Moving on from LeBron. He has been a defensive liability as he walks up and down the court and does not switch defensively let alone locking up a player. Without LeBron, AD would switch over to PF which he prefers. This would also allow more development for Rui and more cap flexibility of not paying a max extension on a part-time player 2. Prioritize 3 point shooting. DLo staying with us and can heat up. He's inconsistent but can knock down 40. Taurean Prince is a 3&D player to keep. 3. Center position is a huge target. With the 17th pick, there are two strong possibilities (Eddy being workout). I've loved Xavier Tillman as he has shown to defend well against AD in the past. Then if your talking trades, how about picking up KAT to match up with fellow Kentucky Wildcats alumni. 4. Definitely, not drafting Bronny since he is not NBA ready and we have a plethora of guards. It's important to keep DLo and Max Christie. 5. Besides Taurean, would love another 3&D. We could get another great switchable defender like Stanley Johnson to team up with Vando.
Reaves usage should be the 6th man role , similar to what sac town has in Malik Monk, and Insert Max Christie, and BOom now you have a young SG that can hold his own on the defensive end quick and athletic and is a 3 point spot up shooter , a more natural SG. And reaves off the bench can be in a role to create and have the ball in his hands more w Lebron resting on the bench and also reaves is not in position to guard other teams best guard (being if he started) brings reliable bench points and play making and Max in the starting SG role he can guard other teams best guard and can be a threat w his 3 point shooting.
You sound like you actually get it; only a bigot in my opinion sees Austin Reaves as an actual starter in the NBA!! Problem is he’s making 12 million which is an overpay as he should be making more around 9 million for what he brings to the table!!!
