- I know I've been lazy about doing deconstructions and this one has been obsessing me for weeks. It's Betty Buckley singing "THE WRITING ON THE WALL" from the reading of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood". She sounds AMAZING. Go to www.BettyBuckley.com to see where she's singing next. Seth this recording is a half step higher than the cast recording!!!! I was amazing. Just. Casual F. Betty. Buckley. Is. Unstoppable.
I think Betty has the coolest voice ever. It's so unearthly and strange, but in a beautiful way.
How have you never deconstructed her "Memory?" Seth, get on that shit!
Can't get this song out of my head since hearing Stephanie J. Block kill it last night. Drood at Studio 54 is brilliant. GO.
*hits last note*
producers: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.
One breath... HOW?! I love a belting goddess.
Seth
In 86/87 I was up for the show, big time. There were so many endings for the part and there were 3 of us in the finals We were told to stand in the back for two weeks to see the endings so to incorporate into final callback.I saw Betty and Donna Murphy (a good friend) do the role for two weeks. There is an optional note at the end if the gals don't feel up to singing the high (F? E?) Too bad I don't have the real score. Anyway...Betty-only lower note at matinees. Donna-you never were sure !
I missed the deconstructions Seth!!!
Thank you so much for putting this one up!! :)
Seth, so glad you are back with more wonderful deconstructions. Keep 'em coming.
I am so happy you are deconstructing again. I love these vids. I learn so much from them. Thanks Seth. Your freaking amazing!
YES! YOU ARE FINALLY BACK!!!
Hmmm...don't know. It's so many generations old. In the real score it's an E. Maybe it was higher in the reading?!?!?
Hahahaha 5:51 "The Rake's Progress." Nice tip of the hat.
FINALLY a deconstruction! thank you, seth, thank you.
Endearing! ♥️Xxxooo
hhHHHAAHAHAHAhahahahaahhaha this is the BEST. so glad to have a new one to watch! i keep watching the same like, 6.
Yay!
In RP English accents the name "Jasper" is pronounced similarly to how you would say it "JASS-per" as opposed to "JAH-sper" as you say in this. It's one of those weird anomalies of our country's language and accents. Not a dig, just saying! :-)
I love when Buckley sings high. It's inhuman.
What I'm obsessed with in this song is that it's almost all spoken and then randomly the last section of the song she's singing. Just wondering why that is. I don't know the show, but don't know many other songs like that so just wondering!
I love Drood. It's an amazing show. I got to perform Bazzard/Bax, and loved it.
i
1:58- One mistake you forgot yo catch- She said EVERY breath instead of VERY breath
Classic Seth!
Anyone know where to find the whole reading audio?
That high E at the end is an F. Is your tape recorder running fast?
I heart minutiae.
You got the last note wrong. In this version it's an F not an E. But either way, she still slays.
i'm obsessed with you. just saying ;-)
wooooooooooooow I really need to get this recording somehow xxxxxx please be my best friend as well haha I LOVE U :) XXXXXX
a deconstruction! how i missed these. did you forget the word at 3:42?
