I've never seen anyone else suggest this, but I do believe that they created the hula task after seeing Phil's outfit. They definitely lean into the outfit, like the way they framed it through that fish bowl.
James genuinely tried really hard on the Hula task. He took the hoop on tour with him - he practiced before shows so the crowd came in to find him hula-hooping on stage. (with no explanation). He kept the hoop for a long time, then eventually I think he gave it away for a charity auction.
If you havent already seen it, I highly recommend watching the extended clip of James having an argument with Rhod about the satsuma. It's brilliant xD
Ever since the first episode, I had been waiting on your reaction on Phil's Wang on this one. XD P.S. The artist of James's picture (Sam Cambell), does make an apperance in the most recent series (16) once you get to that one. ;-)
I get what you mean about the tasks being very meh in this episode. I only really remember it for the Hula Hoop fiasco and the following Satsuma meltdown. Greg's mum double take is a great moment too but I forget it existed until watching. The finale has some pretty great tasks in it though to make up for it. Also I assume you've seen S8E1 by now and that episode in my opinion is really good and has a brilliant selection of tasks, but then a lot of people don't like S8 all that much whereas it's one of my favourites so maybe I'm unknowingly putting my rose-tinted glasses on. I am curious to see whether you'll enjoy that season like me or not and maybe get some insight why others don't if you do end up agreeing with them.
Greg's double take at the photo of his mum is easily one of my favourite Taskmaster moments.
Fun fact, the picture they showed in the studio his mum was giving him the finger but they edited in one of her smiling in the broadcast version
The guy who drew James for the prize task is a contestant for S16, Sam Campbell :D
I didn't know it was Sam. He's brilliant and very very weird.
i only first found him on that season and iv watched loads of his stuff on yt hes a fantastic stand up as well as being great on tm
James’s rant was absolutely justified
I went to see Wonka today, which Phil Wang was in and dancing...all I could see was him in his Taskmaster outfit! Great reaction as usual.
Love James Acaster, especially when he gets angry
A huge fan of his since this series/season aired.

Sadly the photo of Greg's mum was censored, the original picture had Greg's mum flipping the bird according to James Acaster on the TM podcast.

This is one of the best seasons of this show.
A LIIIIMMEEEEE. When Greg says it, OMG SO FUNNY
One of the best episodes purely cause of the bath and hula rage.
i like it when they get homework

Merry Christmas indeed! Two recaps back to back AND we're only one episode away from my favorite task! 🪑 can't wait for episode 10 😁
