Something about Rampal’s sound was so rich, warm, and full. I was taught with Galway as a best reference, however I found myself really drawn to Rampal’s sound.
Aw, J-P. Thanks so much for uploading this, Stefano. Isn't that the most gorgeous sound. So warm, centered, and sweet a sound, buzzing with love. Nothing cheers me up like listening to J-P. Great showman, darling man. Those were the days!
@@gcg8187 it is true. RAMPAL sometimes is loved and most of the time he is hated for us (the flute players). He wasn't consistant with his tone and sound and some ugly and dirty though he used to play with the best handmade silver and gold flutes and those old flutes that everyone who knows about flutes wants to own because they sounded better warmer and fuller than the new ones....
À ce niveau de virtuosité c'est vraiment une question de préférence personnelle. Quant à moi, et j'ai eu le plaisir et l'honneur de connaître Jean-Pierre Rampal, il reste celui que je préfère. Tout comme je préfère l'école française.
Late recordings of Rampal, even though with more quality, don’t do him justice. He was a “tired” player, so you can ear some notes with not so pure sound and sloppy passages. But he was quite old when that happened! In is prime, I don’t think anyone comes even close to him, and the recordings during his prime were of bad quality. His articulation was just incredible, and the projection of his sound out of this world. If search well, you can find some recordings where this is very evident.

He his still my preferred flute player and you will find many videos by him on my channel

Delicate phrasing, distinct articulation even in the fast passages, and natural unforced sound.
Sounds forced to me sometimes bro open ur ears!!!

Merci monsieur Rampal.

BEST OF ALL
His articulation is unique !
J-P didn't have to flex on us with that whole variation taken up the octave around the 3 minute mark but he sure did
just listened to Jasmine Choi rendition, boy, they are 2 very different but extremely competent flautists.
Jasmine Chou's caprice is overrated. I've heard lesser name players play better
Me gusta mucho que la tocaba con la partitura original de violín
The epitome of French flute playing.
Harmonics!
Stefano: what album was this taken from? When was it recorded? Thanks!
Dear Stefano, would you happen to have the whole Kuhlau quintet with Rampal?thank you for all the music you post, sincerely Berten
Oh, yes I have it. I will upload. Best regards from Italy.
My flute teacher was taught by the man who also taught rampal
who was he?
