      It's not petty. it's smart. There's no incentive to help a competition in the same conference. Spurs GM have to be dumb to actually do that.

      Pain Killer what’s smart about that? Lol if they wait until the trade deadline they’ll get less or maybe even nothing cause teams will just take a shot at him in free agency. The Spurs aren’t coming out of this as winners unless they can snag Ingram, Kuzma and a pick.

      sac riches there is no good deal for a player for one year and if they wait till the deadline it will be even worse..the feel would of been much better if they would if traded him when they first found out your not going to try to hold him then trade him last second fck toy

    The amount a team will have to give up to obtain Kawhi would simply destroy that team for years....Why would you do that for a player who Straight up says hes going to Los Angeles....The Spurs have no choice IMO but to deal him to the Lakers, or wait and gain absolutely nothing

    • @coldkid6
      @coldkid6 7 years ago

      David Chavez it only takes one team willing to make that gamble though. I think Philly will do it.

    • @daraider1254
      @daraider1254 7 years ago

      Ant Talks Sports True, I jus dont see a team that can pull it off....And Philly is a team thats been rebuilding for years....they finally have a squad that can win now without Kawhi, especially with Lebron potentially leaving the East and heading West....To break that squad up and possibly lose One of there star players, For a player who has already stated and made it clear hes going to LA is not a gamble, its self distruction....Wouldnt be a smart move for any team other than LA....LA is literally the only team in the league that have the valuable assets needed to make this trade without damaging its future

    I don't think winning championship in other team will help the team Kawhi is traded to to keep him stay there. I mean, he turned down the supermax, he won a championship in San Antonio, he won an MVP, and it all doesn't matter to him. He wants L.A. That's it. If he is traded to let's say Philly or Boston and win a championship, that's just another line on his resume.

    Does Kawhi's value go up if PG resigns with the thunder? Because last year PG was almost guaranteed a "one year rental" and if the thunder pull off an extension then it should give teams hope that they can do the same with Kawhi imo

    Spurs will definitely do the best deal possible... however if I'm any team I'm not trading for Kawhi who has his eyes on LA next year I'm sorry...
    And if I'm the Lakers I'm not giving up all my young pieces for someone who wants to play for me anyway

    • @androSS.
      @androSS. 7 years ago +2

      exactly. i don't see why so many people are saying for the lakers to trade for him. that's unnecessary. why would you give the spurs any leverage of anything when he's made it clear he's going to be a laker (or la player.. but laker by suggestion). the spurs best deal is to trade for boston because, technically, if boston can get kawhi on a rental.. they can give up brown and picks (which will probably be the best deal they get) and that makes sense for the spurs because they upgrade a void that desperately needs help in (SG) and then at the same time.. boston can have him as a retainer for the year. they may win a championship and they'll just develop from within next offseason. it's a win/win/win/win for the lakers/spurs/kawhi/boston. the only way boston loses is if they don't win the championship. but.. they'll definitely represent the east and i don't see how they don't make a series of it with GSW in the finals. that's basically a coin toss.

      @b.e.r.nnetwork8251 7 years ago +1

      DJ ShaqTown great point but they'd practically do anything to lure James to L.A too so what you're saying makes a lot of sense but you gotta look at the free agent market too.

    • @JasonU21
      @JasonU21 7 years ago +2

      its a dicey situation for LA
      Trade for Kwahi so you can grab Lebron and PG this off season OR wait till 2019 and you get Kwahi but Paul George and Lebron might be signed on 2 year deals by then and you have to turn your attention to the Klay Thompson's of the world.
      its a good situation honestly they have a chance to get Kwahi-PG and Lebron in 2018 OR Kwahi-Kyrie and Jimmy Butler/Klay thompson in 2019.

      Media pushed PG as a Laker guarantee few months ago, now the media is saying PG might want to stay at OKC. So its not guaranteed if KL is going to be a Lakers whether he is in a Spurs uniform or another teams uniform (not named Lakers) by the end of next years free agency. But I'll wait to see if PG joins to Lakers before I think about KL

  • @coldkid6
    @coldkid6 7 years ago

    I think Philly will end up getting the trade done because they are in the east and they will be willing to put a good deal on the table. Also Pop and Brett Brown have a good relationship, and both Fultz and Saric would thrive under Pop.

  • @geraldshields9035
    @geraldshields9035 7 years ago

    Weird. There seems to be this belief with the Spurs that Leonard is being mis-advised by either his agent or his handlers and that once those advisers are out of the loop, then they can talk Kawhi into coming back. The problem is that Leonard won't even accept the SuperMax deal the Spurs are offering him.

  • @pablodebella7695

    • @gabrielcarrasco8414
      @gabrielcarrasco8414 7 years ago

      Because the Spurs aren't dumb. They aren't going to trade Kawhi to a rival team in the Western Conference and knowingly have a part in potentially building another super team in the same conference. They don't want to see Kawhi 4 times a year for the forseeable future.

    • @tiredoffools8929
      @tiredoffools8929 7 years ago

      If you get those pieces from LA, you are creating a super team because you know Bron and PG going there then. Sorry, no pieces are worth putting Kawhi in a lakers Uni for the Spurs. What's best for your team is not to create another super team opponent in your conference.

If true, it sounds like excuses to justify leaving the organization that basically gave him his chance to stardom. Also, he clearly didn't need to be in NY all the time. He showed up in some baseball game in LA right after the playoffs.

    Nick is actually right on this and the other commentators don’t seem to get it. The best eastern teams are not going to gut their team and gamble on a one year rental! Any GM who makes that trade is instantly fired WHEN Kahwi leaves for LA next year, and not even the great Danny Ainge is immune to that. The Spurs are absolutely cooked in their leverage, and the longer they wait to trade the worse it gets - teams will be even less willing to give up much for HALF a year rental at the deadline when it’s possible Kahwi would struggle to gel with a new time midseason and then leave anyway.The Spurs played hardball to get him to play last year. It didn’t work. Now Kahwi is playing his hand. As long as Kahwi is willing to miss out on the super max contract, he has the upper hand. Everybody else who says otherwise is flat out misinformed.

    Sources sources and more sources. If the player doesn't speak up himself then no one knows what's going on. A lot of people are talking about money.. why? Kawhi still drove a older car even though making money. Money is not the question it literally is about being happy

    The NBA can put an end to all of this nonsense. Just turn the Super-Max contract into the No-Max contract and you will END all this player movement and "super" teaming.

    Both the Spurs and the Lakers are playing hardball. One day after the draft the Spurs GM said "We want Kawhi to remain a Spur, we will try to fix our relationship", there are reports saying that they will only trade him to an eastern conference team.
    The next day the Lakers GM responds that they value their young players, they want to build something sustainable and won't sacrifice the future for immediate success.

    There's one caveat. If the Lakers trade Ingram, Kuzma, and sign and trade Randle (plus picks) and PG stays in OKC (which I can honestly see him doing) the team is Kawhi, Bron, Lonzo and filler. Does that really stand any chance against the Rockets, Warriors or Celtics?

  • @scorpionvseverybody6524

    Wait so you trade away your assets to keep you a contender but the player clearly said he's leaving next year anyways so you basically starting all over again?!! Yeah sure GM'S listen to the sports analysts and gut your team it's going to be a lot of firing going on lol

    one way or the other Kawhi will have to be moved because if you don't trade him between now and FEB he's gone. you lose him for nothing Pop is smart he won't let his superstar leave without getting something.

  • @Fidelis1776

    If he won a championship he would stay??? The team he's on went to the play-offs when he only showed up 9 games!!! From the outside looking in, he has every reason to want to leave, but it's not because he's looking for a championship OR money. The fact that this is even a conversation is proof of that.

    Why are the Spurs fighting the unavoidable he’s already one foot out the door 🚪 already for LA there best scenario is find the best trade now or lose him for free later 🤷‍♂️ either way he’s gone the max isn’t going to keep him there so end it as early as possible

    Hello Magic. Give me Ingram, Kuzma and JRandall for Kwahi.

  • @JasonU21
    @JasonU21 7 years ago

    It really doesnt matter where you trade Kwahi just get the best deal cause the second hes gone your in rebuild mode for 4+ years Kwahi can realistically hurt you no matter where hes traded too.
    Sending Kwahi to LA also strengthens you vs LA in the future as LA will basically not be able to draft for the next 5 years(they will be a top 5 western team), what the Spurs dont want is to trade Kwahi to Philly and create a Dynasty meanwhile LA finds itself in the draft lottery for the next 3 years.
    its better to be in rebuild mode while LA is top tier and unable to get lottery picks then it is to be rebuilding the exact same time as LA.
