- Been wanting to join an animation meme contest and the song fit so well to Crowsong so I took the opportunity to present more lore!

She's been haunted by nightmares and visions since kithood; making even the stillness of sleep a haunting struggle. Having to deal with these nightmares on her own every night contributed to her stress and fears, up until Omensky's passing Crowkit would sneak into her blind & deaf grandma's den every so often to find at least a small bit of comfort.
This is a bit jumbled but she has terrible visions that both damages her psyche (on top of the trauma she receive whilst being awake) but also makes her long for what she'll never have: a dark pelt and being loved by her family. Her deepest desire integrated with fear surely is a road downhill.
When she's at her weakest state after losing Weepingwind and other (yet to come) events happening that she dreams of the dark water-marsh and eventually heads there (end scene of this meme), believing this will help her pelt become dark.
It's not until after she's headed to the dark-water marsh and fails to dye her fur that she receives her final prophecy; showing her what must be done to make it come true.

Program: Blender (animation/editing) & Clipstudiopaint (backgrounds)
Everything is handdrawn in 2d! Only the 3D space for parallaxing was used!
Time taken: 4 days
Fun fact : I tried finding an actual rose for reference in the store but there were none, so I had to rely on my own eye to rotate it!
I also tried to mimick old style comics with the muted palett and shading! It was a huge inspiration to me growing up!

Amazing!! I can never get enough of your style. There’s so many small details I love so much in this video. The crow claws turning into paint was really neat and I also loved at the end with the moment of Crowsong jolting up from the dream. Overall things flowed so nicely and I love the color pallet you chose to express her emotions in this!!

OKAY OKAY SO I JUST GOTTA YELL. I adored the WIPs you'd shared but DAMN the final just knocked any expectations I had out of the park! I love the colors, the dramatic shading, and the emotions of every single shot so much!! You've really made the most of a short time to just deliver a beautiful experience. It's a super hard pick for the ones I love the most, but it HAS to be crow surrounded by eyes, I'm just stunned by that movement and editing there!

Absolutely phenomenal! This has to be one of the best if not the best animation memes I’ve ever seen. Every little detail is just amazing, color palette, the expressions and camera movement, and just the storytelling. Also just really loved the way when she reached out her paw to her dark half the darker crow dug in her claws just a bit what a beautiful detail and the motion in it looks amazing.
Okay, I absolutely LOVE the way this is drawn, like, it has more of a sketchy look, and it is absolutely gorgeous. A detail that I find super cool is when Crowsong’s face pops out from where the skull is drawn, it’s drawn in a way that is different from how the rest of the animation is, and it looks STUNNING. All in all, this animation is just absolutely marvelous. Great work, Lou.

The fact she's twitching and how it switches to it all-she's genuinely so haunted by it all. You can feel the building frustration, defiently by the end when she wakes up and looks so unamused!
And overall it's just, incredible. the detail, the thought process, everything. It's SO talented! You felt the truama she went through, when she was surrounded. Felt watched by the eyes. You truly get a general feel for how she felt and that's something I hadn't been able to /feel/ for her yet.
One of my favorite parts I must say is the reaching out also! How the white paw was almost reaching out for "help", claw less, desperate. Then the claws from the other, almost as if now she's just trying to kill that part of her off now.
I could go on and on, genuinely. The asthetic is incredible! And I mean that-truly LOL! Just the emotion, frustration, you can feel how she felt and why she became who she became. Keep up the great work and this is defiently something you deserve to be SO proud of!

Edit bc I wanna be more specific: The cinematography alone is awesome. Forget how incredibly well animated it is, the scenes are planned and executed so well. They’re all dynamic and interesting. It doesn’t have any of the usual repetitiveness of an animation meme (not hating on that, it can be and is done very well in many cases). It’s just all around stunning.

I AM FOAMING AT THE MOUTH HOLYYY CRAP LOU you really just keep coming out here and outdoing yourself? Especially because I can see how in your animations lately it's clear you're really developing such a superb grasp on the structure of a figure and manipulating a 2d image like it's in a 3D space. Like rotating a head from side to 3/4 to front and having it stay consistent and looking like the same character from all angles is so challenging and you're out here just tossing these heads around like they're your plaything?!?!? Which is fantastic because I think your character acting is really taking off now, since there's no burden trying to grasp the structure of the head. I love the two consecutive scenes starting at 0:37 with the arc of the head coming around and the follow thru of the ears and the panting... followed by the next shot with this deep breath in and gathering composure. Not to write an essay here but the ACTINGGG I can literally see Crow thinking here like she's come alive and is having thoughts? BASICALLY in this incoherent essay here I'm raving that your animations are really starting to take on a professional film quality 😩😩 I am eating this video it's too good

the color moods, the twitching, the reactions, the timing, the lip sync, the style, the hard shadows... all of this told a story. a pretty clear story. its all original and pretty damn good. All the frames were hand drawn, the effort you put in shows with every breathe your character takes. Such a shame the judges didnt see all that and decided to take fanart instead. Like i cant believe a poppy playtime got 4th and Loona got 2nd when this easily couldve gotten one of those spots or even first. Youre incredible, and i hope u join other competitions and have honest and unbiased judges in it 💝 this was a gift to watch

I’ve rewatched this so many times and am in love with your art style. Magnificent!
Seeing the winners video made me very surprised. No offense to some of the winners, but the quality here and in the runner ups far exceeded those of most of the winners. The only fathomable reason to exclude this masterpiece is they didn’t like the frame rate on the character, which I actually preferred to a smooth animation with perspective to the song choice

Found this the other day and I've been rewatching it on repeat ever since- I have to say, I absolutely love the way you draw Crowsong's eyes with the pink lashes?? It makes the "oddity" of them really stand out and is super aesthetically pleasing. Also I absolutely love the bit with the sort of paw-shake deal and how the claws dig into Crowsong's wrist - I think it really highlights that pursuing this is a dangerous/toxic/bad thing and even if that wasn't necessarily the intention, it's an incredibly nice touch that I think adds a lot to the story you're trying to tell in this animation meme.
