Van, Jonathan Said he shouldn’t of put her back in the car he also took responsibility on cheating in the relationship instead of leaving. That’s accountability. He said he doesn’t know how she got her injuries, the evidence also does explain, the Dr testimonies doesn’t explain so why would you apologise for Injurie she may of self inflicted?! Just bc you have a problem with his delivery. JM has been consistent in the way he speaks, which is performative due to his training in theatre. He comes off as awkward bc he is. There are people in this world who are awkward! It doesn’t mean he’s not being truthful. Everybody knows that the evidence is in his favor so why not just believe him?

I truly believe that Van is missing the point. You want this man to express himself in a manner that is comfortable and makes sense to you. Because he expresses himself in a measured and composed tone doesn’t mean he is being disingenuous. That man was found guilty for taking his phone back and running away from that women and staying away from her the entire night. Basically his conviction on a MISDEMEANOR CHARGE makes it a CRIME to take your phone back from someone that takes it from you. Stop stressing on the Coretta Scott comparison.

I think you guys are hard on Majors. In college I didn't want to go to class one day, my boyfriend attempted to drag me by the hand then did the fireman thing where he picked me up a put me know his shoulder.
I remember in my later 20s a drunk friend of a friend was trying to go back in the club when it was closing. She was being obnoxious. Her bf picked her and put her in the car.
So if the progressive takeaway post Majors trial is "careful men, you can get a felony over this now" then so be it. But that's not a burden that is solely on Majors shoulders.
If the progressive trend is "when a woman snatches your phone, let her have it bc a tussle over getting a phone back is a crime" ??? Then I am so happy I'm a woman today, bc what a terrible precedent.
In his interview I heard accountability. I heard him admit to the biggest mistakes.
Yes, it's ridiculous to expect a white woman to hold you down like a black civil rights powerhouse... but folks lost relationship models after the Smiths so what do you expect?
I agree with Rachel, everything I expected he said. Moving on.

Just came here for the Jonathan Majors stuff. It seem like someone did not see the whole interview on HULU. I hate they parted it out like this because it could have people miss portions. Glad Rachel spoke on that he did talk about his mental heallth and that he is getting help and that he life ending mind thought since he was a kid so it a probllem and he does not feel as vulnerable now with counceling. This guy is a Yale graduate and you trying to compare Coretta Scott King to Majors sounded like a child when referrng to Good. He should of said that he found the traits he needs in his new girllfriend (and left King out his mouth), because Meagan Good got a lot to aspired to, but is not Coretta King nor Michele Obama. My grandparents lived in wallking distance of the Kings and these ladies in that generation lived in church susported the communiity when they were called, the man they slept with was their husband. And it was for better or for worst. They did more than susport their men but supported a cause. I am sure that Disney is trying to recoup on their nvestment and once they been hearing the transcripts and seeing the videos are probably rethinking the decisioon (which was never formal) of releasing him. But I am sure that all the editing might left out important informatiion because there was nothing that new except that he confirm that he fragile and thinks about unliving himself. There was too much tip toeing around this interview (don't say anything about Grace substance abuse, nor that she could have been the cause of her injuries because she totally lost control and was throwing a tantrum)'

Rachel, you know that's not how people define "paper". Paper means you paid your money and passed a written test. Pledged means you got hazed in whatever context that means. Usually that means there was at least some physical aspect of your process and likely that physical aspect includes pain. Sometimes that means being paddled. Sometimes that means other means of physical discipline.
I'm an Iota and we rechartered our chapter. We are technically also a non hazing divine none org. That being said there were some chapters that I saw during my process that were on either side of that equation. Undergrad chapters are more likely to haze in general across the divine nine.

Also, Van, your comments on Majors are a miss. After having seen him do other interviews, that's how he is. That's how he talks. He takes advantage of pauses and I think the interview was a good idea. The only thing I agree with is that the Corretta thing should go away, but I think you're harping on that when we're watching a clear miscarriage of justice. You can't have more energy for the Corretta comments than actual miscarriage of justice against a black man. There was clearly reasonable doubt.
I also think the Corretta thing is a part of his personality. It's kind of like how I think Lebron is the best basketball player that ever lived. He becomes the measuring stick. For some it's MJ. For others it's Kobe. Asking him to change that when it's how he views Corretta in such high esteem and he is complimenting his woman on that level is a reach. There's also a lot of projection that went into what he thinks a Corretta is. Yes. He should stop making the comparison. No. It's not a big deal at all compared to what's really happened to him and happening to him currently.

You were saying that he dismissed the question, but he answered the question before the clip that was played here. Maybe your team put the wrong clip on purpose, but I hear online that you don't know enough about this case to be SO BOLD. MLK the 3rd stayed on code and didn't have to create click bait and raised up CSK without throwing away JM (like trash).

Maybe Maya Moody should have minded her business in regards to Kweli's wife. Light-skinned or dark-skinned, he's still married to a black woman. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they cannot dictate how another responds to said opinion. Talib doesn't owe her anything, she voiced her opinion on a public platform and got back more than she expected. It's been three years move on and get passed it.

Those of us who watched Talib Kweli harass that woman who is his child’s age in real time have continuously been disappointed in the lack of a REAL public call out by his peers. Impact > intent every time. Van you gotta come to terms with the fact that you are friends with some deeply problematic people & your friendship with them doesn’t seem to move the needle with them on their effed up perspectives so maybe you should start interrogating who you choose to publicly ride for. When you claim friendships with the likes of Akademiks, Charlamagne, Saraunas Jackson, etc then you also get called to the carpet.

Talib loves to clap back unnecessarily at everyone especially in his comments. I remember leaving a comment disagreeing about some random rapper and he talked probably looked up to and he replied talking 💩. People with & without platforms that are clapping back in the comment section, something must be seriously wrong with them. The level of insecurity has to be sky high. I wouldn't GAF about a comment some random person left (good, bad or indifferent).

Also, being in media is to be under intense scrutiny. I commend you for it but understand women (and other marginalized peoples) are no longer waiting for us to understand or 'just try to help' they want accountability and recompense immediately. When we look up to someone, an artist in this case, it is hard to separate our feelings from the facts of who they are as everyday people. Talib Kweli happened to be a toxic person. Sometimes it is better to just hear victims and ask what they need in private and to ask how to move on forward with speaking on someone if speaking on it at all. And like Rachael & Maya (on twitter) pointed out in the original convo, you gave Talib a compliment sandwich (which I understand could be triggering in itself) before explaining the situation inaccurately (It was Maya's story to tell). When you as a media person step outside of yourself to speak publicly on two people you don't know, messy things can happen.
And this even goes for a multitude of situations. Cassie could be unhappy with how her situation was portrayed, Grace Jabbari and JM or Diddy's other accusers could feel disgusted anytime they feel like a person who abused or manipulated them is being misrepresented in a situation or celebrated because that person hurt them or took a part of them and they haven't been made whole.
So Van, especially with everything going on. Be easy on yourself. I also pray you heal with all that loss happening in your family because that hurt is so deep. My perspective on women as a Black young man in my 20s has already changed a lot with learning about the world and it has taken a lot of listening to the women around me to improve on subconscious actions/words as well. They march with us everytime something goes down so it's clear our women don't want us dead or to feel like we should'nt be here. They just want us to fight for them like they have always fought for and nurtured us since birth, regardless of who our romantic partners are. And myself personally, I could not publicly speak on things so riddled with trauma that I do not know so I commend you if not doing this is the change the show is going to make. Maybe the topics can be more based in social issues rather than personal people/celebrities?

I completely disagree with what Van said. How do you go from "I dont think he did it" to trying to hold him to some standard where he has to prove to you or anyone else that he didn't do it? Think about that? The evidence showed he didn't do what he was being accused of but somehow you feel like "he could do it" even though you say you dont think he did it. That's how social media works. He was accused of something he DIDNT DO and now these requirements are put on him.....for what? Ya'll expect the man to lick the ground so the public can feel better?
