I tried the Joyo DC 155 and the Spark does indeed blow it away on digital effects and tone control. Where I found the Joyo superior was in the quality of the jacks. No loose connections! And the built in battery is a plus. But, I wouldn't swap from a Spark to this.

Aside from the little amplifier the tone of the Kiesel guitar is outstanding. I've owned a dozen Carvin guitars (Kiesel's original company since the 1940's). Currently have an early 2000's Bolt (Strat style) that blows any and all Fender's out of the water tone wise and playability wise. Amazing how good your Kiesel guitar sounds even through this "sidewalk singer" battery amp. Kudos!

Thanks for this! I'm teaching my teenager daughter to play bass, and even though you said the speaker doesn't handle bass very well I'm thinking I might give this a try. Right now she's just using an old Line6 Micro Spider (I forget the model but it also has a battery option). If I go ahead could you supply them fitted to a Fender Tortoise shell with some kind of quick change facility (into one of my Mexican Strats (HSH)? I see why some people would prefer this, but I’ll take the PG amp over this one because it actually has great useable tones for all genres, plus the tone cloud. I actually like that the pg spark doesn’t have a built in battery because it’s just one more thing to go wrong that I wouldn’t be able to replace. I like that I can get 20k+ mah battery that will run it for 5+ hours, and if that battery ever craps out, it’s $20-$70 for a new one instead of replacing the whole amp, or paying $150+ to have it replaced. Messing with power sources is something I’m a bit weary about, so I’m glad the battery I got isn’t built in. The joyo is still pretty cool though, especially if you play majority blues/jazz/rock.

  • @baorozzo

It’s basically a microcube by roland, same controls, same effects (if I remember correctly)
    But with battery.
I have a microcube first generation, I run that with 10400mAh powerbank that give 9v and a cable adapter that I made (usb to center negative barrel jack).

Hey Phil. Those "Line In" could also be used with an older laptop that doesn't have bluetooth. Jam with backing tracks or drum machine software. This could take Busking to the next level. There a lot of backing tracks on RUclips. Popular songs, backing tracks, and even drums only tracks. I'm pretty sure the audio out from a laptop would sound better through this amp.

  • @georgerobartes2008
    @georgerobartes2008 2 года назад

I have an old Line 6 Flextone 2 with the 12" Celestion driver that has 32 amps and 16 cabs and tons of effects and the Joyo is pretty much the condensed version of this ( as is the Spark ) with the Hi Fi or ICE driver configuration to produce the sound , compactness and lightweight ( the tiny Bose drivers in a Porsche are pretty amazing as were my little Tenvox ones in my big car ).......and a Spark 40 of course . The Line 6 can fill a pub as it moves much more air than any of these compacts and with the Spark/Line 6 pairing you can stereo your sound with twin pups like 2 P90s or Humbuckers and will take a PJ or Ric bass or any other 2 pup guitar with a little rewiring and a stereo to twin mono jack cable to produce a hall filling 100 Watts of ' stereo' ( its not true stereo as the sound comes from one source - the strings ) or any other guitar with an ABY splitter box for an amazing little mono stack . I can also plug the the Line 6 into 2 Channels of a mixer amp and using the AB-Y pedal use the Spark as a fold back by replicating the voices , put pedals into one one amp in stereo and leave the other clean etc. You cannot run a tube or solid state with a digital modeller with an AB-Y . A tube amp with solid state works but the SS must be 2 x the rating of the tube amp or more . 2 tube amps , 2 SS amps , and 2 DM amps seem fine . Its all about impedance matching . By simply adding one lightweight combo to an already excellent old but gold digi modeller with grunt makes for a very flexible system . The Sparks output benefits from being sat on the Line 6 and looks like a mini stack . The sound is everything from Dave Gilmour through Jack White to Ben Moody ( a Line 6 man ) with guitars and a reasonable Chris Squire ( bless him) Ric sound which is available for the Spark from the app , depending on what you're doing . I already had a very impressive Amoon looper when they were first arrived here at a low price so no problem and can place that in any part of the signal chain , loop one amp or both . Another looper pedal is on its way . I don't replace anything now as you will always regret it later . Think outside the box and adapt what you have to widen your sound .
I also have 2 Marshall tube combos ( a JTM 30 2 x10" and a Marshall based Fischer Trainwreck I built with a 1x 12" driver in a Marshall 50/80 solid state cabinet ) for AB-Y and mic'ing to a house PA system again the JTM taking pedals the 'TW' doing its own thing using guitar eq to drive the 'TW' .

I still think for the price, with tax about $160, the Blackstar ID core 10 is a really good option. Sounds good and you can opt for a PB1 power bank. At low volume, it does quite well. It' is NOT a 3 Way speaker or driver system. It is a 2 Way system with just Tweeter & Woofer with a bass port for the latter (which is part of the woofer system an not a driver). A 3 Way system would typically have a tweeter/midrange/woofer array.

I also bought the new baby spark (not tried it) I would be hard pressed, for MY use, to want this over those. The Nux are small enough and light enough to SUITCASE them when traveling. My guess is, this has much better bass response and overall volume though. Either way, there's some cool rechargeable stuff out there for whoever needs it. I pushed Positive Grid for years to make the Spark re-chargeable. The footswitch on this makes it a great value too, and Joyo stuff has never failed to meet expectations for me

Probably end up with a Catalyst because without going into personal details it's just much easier for me to get. I think it costs a bit more than a spark- about 300 bucks. The sparks I looked at are running like 250 or so used so- I guess they go for about 300 as well huh? It's similar technology. What I really wish I could get is a Kemper Profiler but- I aint got it like that.

Neat idea, agree about the built-in looper and the rechargeable battery, but for a little more $/£/€ you can get a Vox Mini Go with similar functionality but more tweakability and better sound, and which can be powered by a mobile recharge battery.

It sounds and looks good for a practice amp, I guess the only thing that can't be tested in a short time is reliability, hopefully is a good one however I haven't had a good experience lately with far east electronics

For a few more bucks, the new Boss Dual Cube LX looks like a much more serious and, dare I say, professional piece of kit. Battery-powered, looper and so much more. Like you mention, this is old tech.

It depends on budget so I'm hesitant to say but yamaha THR is what I'd recommend if I didn't have a budget concern. It's expensive but they sound amazing for what they are and should you get a "real" amp someday you can use the battery power to play around the house or travel. I think the most niche might be the Boss Wazas. I have tube amps and can play them loud etc. but I honestly play those most because of the convenience. And sometimes it's nice to practice in silence.
There are a million ways you could go including just using an interface and plugging into GarageBand if you have a mac (will need headphones unless have nice studio monitors). Also, don't be afraid to get something like the Katana or a Fender version that can function as both a practice amp and can be used to play out if you one day do that. With the dedicated practice amps you give up some versatility. Depends what you are looking for.

Get a small combo tube amp that meets your needs. Nothing over 5 watts. Don’t spend more than 400-500, buy it used, and get something you’ll keep. When you upgrade you may want to go louder and keeping your older amp as a quieter but quality amp will be versatile and a nice use for you. Don’t buy something cheap that’ll crap out, you’ll want to get rid of quick, or have no resale value in.

I like the Spark, but I don't like how reliant on the app it is. I had my whole account reset once, and lost *all* my tone settings, and I almost sold the damn thing over it!

I’ve had this amp for over a year, I think. It’s one of my most played pieces of gear. Compared to other desk tops I’ve owned it’s my favorite. I’d take it over the Spark, THR, Boss desktops. Wish it had a tuner. Otherwise it’s great!

Had my Spark 2 years, added a battery (Amazon) that powers it for 24+ hours. I recharge about once every 6 weeks. Added the 4 switch bluetooth foot-pedal from PG that connects thru your phone or tablet too. So I'm all in. But the Joyo is a cool alternative.
