I put mine in massive jars. I scoop out a couple of litres of water, place it in the jar and then put about a heaped tsp of dry yeast. It doesn't smell and once the water is clear (as the yeast makes it milky) it is ready to use. It only takes around 48 hours.
As a long time fish keeper although I never intentionally tried to raise infusoria I did raise some. I would take a five gallon bucket and half fill it with brown leaves from the yard. Fill the bucket with old aquarium water. Add a tbl. of milk and leave it setting in a shaded area outdoors. After a week or so the bucket would be filled with mosquito larva that I could net and feed to my fish. Of course the larva were likely feeding on infusoria in the bucket. I never found any fish that would refuse to eat the larva but my neons went crazy over them.
Great video man, very informative and you have great dispositions in yoru video. If i may offer some feedback as a viewer, seperate the camera from the surface your shooting on. its creating a lot of camera shake and i found it distracting. Still managed to make it through to the end tho! good content just the same and not meant as a hate comment! keep it up boss :)
Gotta be careful with infusoria cultures when feeding fry as they produce a lot of ammonia. What I do is I separate them out using fresh water and light to concentrating in a small area.
The banana culture went anoxic and crashed because the bacteria bloom used up all the oxygen, the lid probably didn't help, the amount of nutrient mass provided by a whole banana peel is much more than a few lettuce leaves, hence a faster bloom, and the microorganisms can't consume the bacteria at a fast enough rate to reach a balance in the culture The decomposing smell is very distinct from anoxic smell, but to some unobservant people who aren't familiar with things like gardening or soil health people it probably smells the same

so do you just take a pipette straight from the container, straight into your fish tank to feed your fry? feel like that decomposing water is bad?
Just to say, sand ranges from 0.05 to 2.0 mm. smaller it is silt, larger it is gravel

A friend of mine uses banana peel, but he dries them first.
Mine smell like shit and nothing yet. I empty half and replace it with more tank water, waiting.
