8 FIGHTS!? So happy for Derrick! I am more of a new fan compared to most and I had only seen Derrick lose until this fight. Was awesome too see his performance and the reward for being one of the UFCs most fun fighters. Derrick seems to be unapologetically himself as well. Derrick is REAL.
@@STATOSHI been watching this channel for 3 years trying to understand the UFC and it’s fighting and business that comes with it. Not my fault I got into UFC then. I know more about this sport than most. But please, call me a “casual” because you have clearly shown you know more about the sport after writing 1 word. Instead of writing an intelligent response to a seeming harmless comment I posted congratulating Derrick you use your pea sized brain and spit out a completely unoriginal, dull, and cliché one word response. Congrats! Have a good one pal. PS: The dude who called me a casual seemingly deleted his comment.
I hope Derrick is being honest about getting serious with his training now. He definitely looked to be in much better shape. Maybe he can put together a nice little run and challenge for the belt again.
Uncle Chael; Negotiating is not turning the gun on anybody. Some fighter’s have more options than others do. Good example Nate Diaz or Francis Ngannou both believed they should “test” free agency. Derrick Lewis choose not to “test” his market value outside the UFC. The end of a contract should not be seen as a fighter being ungrateful to the promoter. A contract is not a marriage. A contract has specific terms over specific period 😊 Your honesty (or otherwise) on this (contract) issue, speaks very loudly. A fight choosing to re-sign vs another fighter choosing to test free agency is based on the fighter’s belief in themselves, their risk aversion and or wilingness to bet on themselves. Derrick Lewis did the right thing for “his”career, Nate Diaz and Ngannou did the right thing for their respective careers. MMA must adopt the same mindset as in other sports. Promoters are not benevolent employer’s. Fighter’s are independent contractors. Please please don’t use your platform to be a spokesperson against fighter’s who have “kahonis”😊
Lewis is not stupid like most people seem to think I'm sure that he figured how many more fights he needs to be comfortable for life and went with that. Let's be honest Lewis will probably never hold the belt and there is a good chance of going 4 and 4 in the next 8 fights.
@HellBlazerMNE07 Derrick literally has more ko's than anyone in UFC history, which includes Francis. So, you're an idiot. Also, he fought for a title and probably will again, which means...championship level, so again, this is a completely stupid comment in every way shape or fashion. Also, I've never heard the "people's champ" needed to be anything but very popular with people. Please stop commenting on a sport you obviously do not understand nor follow.

Actually wanted Derrick to go to the PFL because they have to pay somebody 2 million and he’s one up on Francis so that’s probably 4 million in 2 fights. Hopefully that possibility allowed him to stick the UFC up.
8 fight deal - translation: UFC: Hey Derrick, how much did PFL offer you to fight Francis? Derrick: $4 million (I’m making up this number, but it’s probably in the ballpark). I hope Derrick Lewis didn’t drop the ball on his contract negotiations. 8 fight contract is a 3 or 4 year contract. Possibly 5 or 6 with injuries and opponents dropping out at the last minute. Derrick’s Management should have a pretty good idea what he would be worth as a free agent. My only advice to Mr Lewis is invest 70% of your paycheck.
