    In my mind this guy is THE voice for Lovecraft's writing, I almost can't tolerate anyone else

    I do like the narrator, sounds like an old radio host. Or a detective recording his thoughts

    This was powerful! One of the best so far. Glad I was familiar with the Innsmouth story. Thank you!

    Wondrously descriptive. The narration is superb. This is my favourite story by H. P. Lovecraft.

      Despite appearances, there is no Lovecraft in this story; it is completely Derleth's pastiche of HPL's style. That said, I've always enjoyed it, and this is a good reading!

      The descriptions of the area and the house are remarkable. In my mind, I can visualize a disintegrating backwater town in Massachusetts. Decay and dust fill the senses. The descriptions of the characters are amazing. I grew up in a very old house located within a small rural town with people who reminded me of certain characters from this story. "The Lurking Fear" is also very well-written and very creepy.

      @@walterfechter8080 Absolutely. One can't just listen to Lovecraft. You need to create the visuals in your own mind.

      @@missmouse20 Precisely. HP Lovecraft used descriptive language like a master uses brush strokes upon canvas. The "canvas" is our imagination. Though some of his lexicon is archaic, it still serves a purpose to portray a sense of place and of a time long ago, in settings, either during, or shortly after World War One. -- W --

      The only deep ones I like can be found at red lobster accompanied by the infamous and legendary "cheddar biscuit"

      Yes. I felt sorry for him - in spite, of him having been let out and eaten animals and even people... looks like he couldn't help it. Should've been let out into the ocean.

    The protagonist really is an idiot, isn't he? And for what particular or general reason is this story set in Dunwich?
    Other than that, fairly good fanfiction.

    • @badas45
      @badas45 3 года назад +4

      I believe Howard was from the area and this story has subtle ties to the "dunwhich horror" and more obvious ties to "the shadow over innsmouth"

      @@reverendparis7747 I think he's referring to how most Lovecraft/Derleth collaborations were just Derleth stories based on ideas Lovecraft had penned out before his death. I don't know if this is true of this one or not.
