Most stuff in Japan is legit. Fake designer items are illegal there and they at times take that seriously. Hence why thrift store there are amazing and one of the few places in the world where you can buy affordable second hand designer goods with little to no worries. Many vintage designer items are often shipped abroad via Japanese resellers or regular visitors who buy in bulk and resell abroad. If you found one in sites like Depop, eBay and Poshmark, you’re basically set.
The concept of layering has always been a natural part of Japanese culture, even since the era of kimono. Kimono itself is quite complex-underneath the kimono (outer layer), people often wore inner garments with bicolored fabrics to highlight the outer layer, or a special undergarment called "juban." Japanese people were also skilled at incorporating foreign cultures. When Japan opened up and Dutch Western clothing arrived, people began to appreciate the practicality of boots and even coordinated them with their kimonos. If you look at photos from the pre-war era, you'll see people wearing kimonos with soft hats or boater hat.
When I was in Tokyo in winter I was shocked by how fashionable and clean many people looked but also how it was homogenous in a different way Many people wearing north face puffers and balloon shaped nylon cargos Almost everyone wearing black, OD green or brown in some way The crowds blended as some sort of really fashionable mash of dark earth tones
I just want you know, a lot of koreans are there and a lot of them are pack mindset regarding fashion. I'd bet a lot of them are american asians or korean lol.
I visited Japan last year for the Sakura. I thrifted a men's plaid shirt, haori and kimono in Kyoto - the shopping in Japan is insane. This video is making me so sad I won't be going back for at least a few years, but when I do, you can guarantee I'll be saving a pile of money to spend on the fashion. I saw so many amazing 'unisex' shops where everything was black - my heaven. Thank you for inspiring me to go back. I will check out the thrifting area of Tokyo next time, sadly I missed that.
after living in NYC past 14 yrs, being in tokyo for the past 2 months had made me realize 90% of mfers in NYC DO not have that shit on. you can walk down cat street any day of the week and see just insane fits. Its not just a " special occasion " outfit for people here. its true daily expression. while there is people in NYC that do dress like that its much more marginal.
I don’t think the outfits are much crazier than how ppl with fashion sense dress in other countries like the United States but as someone who has been to Japan many times the amount of people with a sense of style is way more than in the United States. People care more about how they look and how they present themselves and it’s a really cool environment.
When I went majority of what i saw in Tokyo, especially Shibuya was baggy clothing and a lot of band tees , As i saw a lot of shops selling them in Harajuku. I did like see more casual wear there especially for the summer
From my experience there the quality at thrift and vintage stores was high but also way more expensive than the US on average. Most stores had massive vintage upcharge A few were “normal” price though but nothing as low as Salvation Army for instance.
@ yes, same as in the US. not a huge fan of upcharging the amount that some of these places do for what they’re actually selling. Curation doesn’t necessarily warrant $60-90 for a stained champion crewneck IMO This is my opinion on most curated vintage stores though. And I noticed way more of those in Japan than regular thrift stores, and even those thrift stores were not as cheap as ones I’m used to in the US.
I really want the kapital lumber pants but since I’m under 15 I ain’t got that money. I love fashion especially Japanese streetwear since they actually have creativity. In the us, people’s style is only workwear.
when i went i def thought the thrifting overall was better, but most of the stuff i was finding was literally just american vintage. which is fine but like im in Japan, i want japanese vintage
Burberry in Japan used to be some kind of Uniqlo back in the day (idk how but they didn’t follow the luxury pathway when they first got exported there) so it’s probably real since it wasn’t uncommon for people to buy there I think
First time finding your channel but I very much like the yap, but I also can't tell if it's the sensory videos fooling me. Also you look like Will Toledo from Carseatheadrest
fucking funny how he talks about "everyone in canada just wears what's trending" but then goes to japan and says "ayooo hol up let me cop all these trendy tik tok pieces from Kapital and other tik tok famous brands"
good vid dont get me wrong but japanese fashion isnt better people just know what to wear and how to wear it. you'll see the same in europe or even big fashion hubs here in the states. dont get me wrong like u said japan has crazy good stores for buying clothes but the difference always comes down to how u wear it and the japanese are good at tha
I disagree, it’s definitely more than just knowing what to wear and how to wear it,the creativeness from Japan/Japanese designers and artists over the years is very impressive, ofc despite some brands taking inspiration from EU or even American culture and putting their own twist on it, even quality from a couple of brands can be better than a good chunk of brands, but hey that’s just an Opinion, now that everyone is more exposed to Japanese fashion due to tiktok and social media, they form opinions without actually experiencing it.
There's good and bad things about fashion brands and scenes in Japan just as there are anywhere else. You can argue that the style culture there resonates with you more but it doesn't make it inherently better
Okay man. You are right. Judging by the Jordan 3s and ripped SHEIN skinny jeans in your pfp you are obviously on a realm of fashion expertise than I can only dream of ascending to one day.

Trend in Japanese streetwear is that there is no 'trend' but character and individuality.
Yeah its not like korea too , sticking to a one trend and if u stick out u got bullied

had to do a double take when you name dropped the city I live in, feels like nobody is into fashion here
Why would you do this to yourself

This is true. I saw a beat-up mangled pair of doc martens going to $400 USD when I was there.
that’s because they’re “select stores” and overcharge because they curated it, most people don’t actually buy random items at those prices
@ yes, same as in the US.
