As an Arsenal fan from the age of nine, I always envied Spurs for having who I felt was the best goalkeeper in the world. When they sold him to us I thought all our Christmas's had come at once. Modest bloke who always let his actions do his talking. The best! Thanks for the memories Pat :)

He was the only player in a North London derby to be given an ovation by both sets of fans! That says it all about him. Best keeper I've ever seen!!

I've admired Mr Jennings for as long as I can remember, perhaps back to the 1960's. He was one of a trio of world-class keepers, along with Gordon Banks and Peter Bonetti.

Great memories. Best Northern Ireland player ever. Was at the Northern Irteland v Morocco game on April 23rd 1986 when he became the most capped international player ever.
    Simply the best

Thanks for posting all these as Pat was one of those players whom I never tired of watching or listening to. The bloke was so modest, unlike so many over paid under performing spoilt brats nowadays!

Great to see these clips of Pat Jennings, I stood on the Arsenal terraces throughout his time at Arsenal and it was a pleasure and a privalige to watch such a great goal keeper. I first saw him in his days at Spurs in the local derby at White Hart Lane, as much as he stopped us from winning he was incredible.

Thanks very much for posting all these videos, they're excellent! Pat is the greatest goalkeeper I have ever seen and I was lucky to see him play for the Spurs during all his time at WHL. I Actually started watching the Gunners when he signed for them and was still a legend there as well - The Biggest mistake Spurs mad to let him go. So happy he has been GK Coach and Hospitality working. He is a truly wonderful man and had a major impact upon my sporting life...!

Thank you, Lyndon, for uploading this. Pat was my hero growing up and I modelled myself on him when I was playing. The first time I saw him play live was at the Lane, 3rd round FA Cup v Bristol City 2 - 0.Greavesy got both goals, but the highlight of the game was Pat saving the same penalty twice. The ref disallowed it the first time cos he was convinced Pat must have moved. Cool as a cucumber, he just stood there and saved it again. So many great memories and a real gent. I'd love to meet him

Terrific memories. I remember Spurs signing him from Watford - a team who produced a few top players in that era, including Dennis Bond, Marvin Hinton (I believe), There seemd to be so many excellent keepers then: Bonetti, Stepney, Banks... and the often overlooked John Jackson at Crystal Palace who I think was one of the best never to play at international level.
Yep, thanks for the upload matey

I am (a mere) 5ft 9 and I was a goalkeeper basically because of this man. I am from Dublin and remember the '82 WC so well. We had never been there but we cheered for NI and those games are among my fondest memories as a football fan.
Great videos. Thanks for posting them.

@BozTheBass As a Leyton Orient supporter of the same age, I seem to recall the old 1st Division being full of good English goalkeepers. Apart from Joe Corrigan, who was never quite in the same class as the aforementioned keepers, there was also Jimmy Rimmer at Villa & Paul Cooper at Ipswich, Phil Parkes (WHU & QPR) & Tony Godden WBA. Slightly different from nowadays, where Joe Hart is miles ahead of any other English keeper. Am still wondering how Cappello hadn't realised that by the World Cup!

Question for you --- Was the video quality acceptable?

  • @lyndonjones

@BozTheBass Big Pat all through his sporting life and personal life has been the epitome of calmness and well aware of his capabilities, he showed by his saves that goal keeping came natural to him.
Thanks for viewing. Keep an eye out for some top class goal scoring from days gone by!!
