A smile that I would imagine those around you feel a privilege to enjoy
There are some great gates down here in Somerset. I know one which is made from an old iron bedstead frame. Another is half-gate half-stile and the gate bit is made from the bottom of a wooden packing case. I once camped in a field full of sheep and I swear that sheep do not sleep at all. The grass is still there light or dark so they seem to think they might as well spend all night chomping away at it. Cows do sleep, and they usually snore. Very loud!
Exmoor and Quantock Hills are great in Somerset.
What additional compliments can I add? Always uplifting to view your enthusiasm for life and cycling. I would love to ride with your group! Come to America and we can.
Spectacular scenery, what a ride, I am jealous watching on my lunch break at work. I need to plan something like this! Obviously hard but worth it for that location.
Awwww it was bloody phenomenal!!!!!
I really love this as this is extremely relatable, having to stop so often and hikes, too often you see other made it look effortless simply because they cut the parts they struggle on.
What a pain/bummer , but your attitude always inspires us.
Next vid should be one week resting in your back yard .
You deserve it !
Luving ya stuff we met at ribble a few weeks back I am have since found out I have two tumours so I am laid up in hospital in Liverool but you vids are kept ing a smile on my face and reminding me why I need to climb these METAPHORICAL hills and get back out there on my lovely Ribble gravel CGR keep up the great work you are keeping this old bugger cheerful and enjoy conquering those rocky hillls xDave kennedy
Gates in Dorset, in New Forest... bloody everywhere :D
Great Katie Kookaburra Video, thanks for sharing
Such a great route - A friend and i did it a few years ago. I'm having "gate flashbacks". The fuel options are few and far between aren't they? Bloody lovely scenery and an awesome challenge though. I hope you get to do the final day
There is a short cut that avoids all the Forestry between Cwm Ystwyth and Llangurig. At the stream crossing you stay on the [sort of] road. I didn't tell the MBR Editor when I guided him..... He was as white as chalk, uttely bonked. When it was put together as a route it was specifically for mountainbikes, not that they were so capable 22 years ago, and gravel bikes weren't invented.
Seeing that terrain makes me feel less like I massively cocked up my route planning round Ladybower Res, where I ended up hiking my gravel bike up some serious inclines over some proper MTB terrain. Had to scramble down a -30.6% decent and then went arse over tit when I managed to get back on! All an adventure! 😂
Ladybower is a regular local route for us and the best tip is to stick to the side of the dam and don't take any tracks up or down! They are for the MTBers.
@@andycotton162 if I only knew now what I wish I’d known then!
Yup! I know exactly where you mean. Done some of those tracks, including Potato alley on gravel bike. Too much hike a bike for my liking 😛
How did those tailfin panniers work for your friend? That is on my list potentially as there OEM attachments are not in stock.
That section of the Elan Valley gravel, where they tried to fix it... Gosh it was soo difficult but that crossing was fun haha - we did it the other way around :)
Nice tent looks ideal for hiking or bike packing.
Great video Kate .. Love watching your rides while planning my
Own…. Your tyres looked awesome what Michelin were they…
CheerS
Love your chilled out footage 👍
Even the best laid plans of cyclists with enormous brains don’t always work out! Methinks you’re still recovering from that last 600 km mega ride … Hold Fast! Thanks for your cheery outlook … great inspiration for us. 🚴😀 PS: Just finished my 3rd 100 km this week … woohoo!
Nahhh 600 was ages ago - I didn’t eat enough haha! Learned me lesson there. Again!
not my thing... i could do the gravel roads, but do not want to be walking my bike. enjoy your positive attitude... watch (almost) all of your videos.
Another great vid, thanks. What was the App Greg was using that showed the profile?
4:53 “Look at that view!”
Me: only seeing that gorgeous bike
This might seem and odd question to some, but why not use a mountain bike? I believe this trail was actually desgned to be ridden on such. I haven't done it myself though, but I do look forward to doing it. I've also heard it's nicer over four days then three, any thoughts on that?
Yeh I put it together as a Mountainbike three day route in 1999/2000 whilst working for Powys Highways as their unsealed road inspector. Then the Hipsters came along. If you are bike packing you can more easily break it down into four or five, and you probably need to......
@@jeremyatkinson4976 wow! The creator! Good job well done. Thanks. (I've mapped a fairly direct Northern return link but not had chance to do it yet)
@@mikeraine1193 I spent a few months working out a route that rolled well, minimised farmland, optimised the climbs for east west and had safe main road crossings. That last point is really really important and forced me to drop an otherwise excellent option. To my knowledge there hasn't been a traffic accident of that nature. I'd designed several Polaris two day Orienteering events by then . They had a 1000 riders, so that''s useful experience.
I hiked Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers today in the rain n low clouds….n you lot actually hiked more and through more gates than me….at least I didnt have a bike to push 😂…sorry but you made me really laugh in this one KK…not at you of course…but with you…heavy brain lol…..decathlon do a great inflatable pillow for about a tenner….you got a great sense of humour and friends too…never noticed before now but your guns are your pins…not surprising really given your mileage …that ribble is an awesome colour too…looking forward to part tres. ❤️ Best wishes.
Silly question, but couldn't you have repaired your pillow using a tube repair kit patch and glue?
I didn’t think of that!!!!!!! You clever man :)
What a nice scenery
Hi Katie looks like a good ride love the senery love to do that
The last hill is called puke hill, not messing about that thing, day 3 is so good, hope you get back to do it
Your bike does look cool !
Question:
How do you charge all your gadgets on a multiple day trek like this one?
I had a battery pack - one was plenty enough and that was charging Wahoo / Phone / camera :)
the tyres should easy be able for what you are doing ... i have use jet xcr ,country race on quite rocky cross country trips without much issue... much the same profile 2,10 tyres ,michelin make good stuff lol.... obviously dont know if you run tubeless or not , and pressures you run will be different given what you are doing ... i run on the softer side with the pressures over the rough stuff..but at a fairly slow speed you should have no issues with them ...
Yeah tyres have zero issues. The issue is my ability 😂
@@KatieKookaburra lol, you are much better than you think... confidence will come ..... and in the right situation lower tyre pressures give way more grip .. maybe a day of lesson in gaining confidence is on the cards lol...make for a good video too....
Beautiful ..even upon rising
Shame you abandoned as the best was yet to come. Maybe you tried this too soon after your 369 miles ride? Maybe stick to road riding and smooth trails in Wales? There are plenty of nice quiet ones with great scenery. Just a thought.
Why would I do that when there’s epic trails like this?! My mate had a bad stomach and could barely walk, never mind a day off road. Also recovery after a long ride was like two days nothing to do with that and more to do with not eating enough! Will defo take more stuff next time
Ah, worth the effort for all the lovely views.
Your videos are so cute and amazing. What can I say...exceptional. Still searching the dictionary🤗
Hope you made it home okay Katie. Near the end of that vid, it had a bit of a Blair witch vibe about it 😬 Curse of the were-sheep! A pot noodle and some parma violet's needed 👍
You know me so well! 😂
Hi what tyres are you using?
Michelin Force XC 2.1
Welcome to the green desert
Great vid and really appreciate you showing the “real” parts of riding too. Issues with gates, terrain, routes… I always feel like a failure when things go wrong but this makes me feel better!
Awww don’t, that’s part of life. Stuff goes wrong. I was far grumpier than I was in the vid too haha! :) it happens to all of us.
The gates are designed to be difficult lol.
7:02 nice
Great vid as always Katie.
Sometimes you just gotta kickback, probably still feeling the effects of that 615K, the other day.
If everything was easy where would be the enjoyment in it. Must have been the weight of the eyelashes that burst the pillow :)
i like it
Get some pink floyd in the background
Hi
Bonky bonky bonk bonk ride haha
Yup!!
@@KatieKookaburra it's a horrible feeling, but getting to the end is pure heaven. I was considering doing this route in a few weeks, but from the looks of things, it looks tough if the mighty Katie is broken. I would be doing it on my mtb though
@7:53 Katie, if you've have the wonga, a satellite messenger would have solved your problem. You could have texted Sarah and then just got some proper zzzzzzz :)
Maybe it's time for a colab with 'Spot' or 'Garmin' ...
“The weight of my enormous brain”! 😀
I should be grateful if you would give me your bike.
And second!
And a congrats from KK!
My day is complete:)
First!
