You really don't get "Alice Munro and Issues of Social Class in Mid-20th Century Rural and Small-Town Southern Ontario", if you think she's satirizing or making fun of her lower-class characters. She presents these characters as seen through the eyes of a perceptive lower-middle-class townswoman or girl, and, yes, they have both their comic and grotesque features, as they would to such a person of such a class background: that is the point. But to say that she's satirizing them would be like saying Ernest Buckler is satirizing urbanites when he has a farmboy chuckle mockingly at seeing the visiting city kid hike all the way back to the house to use the toilet. That is something the city kid might well do, and the probable way the farm kid would react; the point is that their differing experience has bred different behaviours and expectations. Furthermore, I don't believe it would occur to anyone familiar with that world Alice Munro writes about that she is satirizing anybody, more that she's simply giving an accurate, 'warts-and-all' re-creation. Otherwise, another enlightening lecture, and I thank you for all but those few remarks I've addressed here ... !

dear friends,If you love her defend her!! How do we really know what happened??Defend Alice. My daughter has be making false allegations to me for years due to her mean careless father who I divorced. . i left him but it is still my fault. So stand up now for yourself as the "family" will drag you down and try to degraded your name when you are dead. Prove you were innocent before it is too late

Umm if you did your research, her daughter took her step father to court and won. How can you defend her knowing that her flesh and blood accused her husband of abuse. If you love your daughter you would always take her side. You are just as guilty as her. Grow up

This guy sounds horrible. Is he entirely unaware of all of the noises and grunts he is making?
