That's revisionist history. He was a bland character, nobody cared about him. He was basically a jobber....and then he became a rapper. Everybody LOVED the rapper gimmick. Then he got moved over to Raw, on the USA network, and Bonnie Hammer (USA Network executive) said she wanted John Cena, but she didn't want rapper John Cena. And that's when people started booing him. They weren't booing him saying that he sucks, and always had sucked. They were saying this new non-rapper version of him sucked. This was also about the time he started winning 101% of his matches. That's when it changed from being "We miss the old you" to being "This new you sucks so much. Please get off my TV screen." And the two changes happened back to back within a year of the switch. In 2004 he's still a rapper, getting cheered, and by mid 2005 he's getting boo'd. But the new character appealed to children. That's when fruity pebbles John Cena was born. Half the crowd (women, and children) cheered him, while adult men bood him. Bobby Lashley ALMOST followed a similar path, but he didn't have the emotion of the fans loving him at one time. So he just came off more like Lex Luger. Then for a few years the same thing happened with Roman Reigns, before the bloodline. But at no point did we boo John Cena in a cool way. We didn't boo him because he was supposed to be a heel. We boo'd him because he was ruining our enjoyment of the show. I think John Cena the person is an AMAZING person. I think John Cena the character is quite frankly the most boring character that's ever been on WWE. He took all the stakes out of every story he was ever in. The reason people were so frustrated by the Nexus angle, is because FINALLY something interesting happened on WWE after 7 years of boring shit. And then John Cena removes everything interesting about it. It could have been as big as the NWO. Instead it's luster lasted about a week.
Highly doubtful. I'm sure it became the plan once hating on Cena became a meme that grew upon itself, but the original plan was for him to be the next Hogan. It was Vince's greatest (booking) sickness outside of the Attitude Era, it happened time & time again, his top guy had to be a Hogan ripoff. Don't fool yourself into believing WWE wanted a polarizing top guy. If you offered them a reality where Cena was unanimously loved & cheered they'd have taken that in a heartbeat.
The Miz for me and many others. I thought he was a reality t.v hack and didn't belong in wrestling and wasn't that good. Over the years, he has proven time, and again, he is one of the most consistent entertainers in WWE.

people didn't hate Cena, they hated how he was booked for years and years on end. It was only after he started to step away from the main event when people started cheering for him again. Everyone still acknowledged that he was one of the most entertaining performers this company had seen.
I was very wrong about the most recent nia jax return. When she first came back I was 100% against it. I hated it and had no idea why they were doing it. But then as the weeks went by it was evident she had improved a lot in the ring and her character work has been top notch. I was actually happy when she won the title this weekend. Also, not me but most people I saw online "Cody should've won at wm 39". That turned out to be incredibly wrong as what we got at wm 40 was perfect
I love Simon and he does great work, but I am sort of getting tired of everything is great, you should do whatever you want, as long as you are happy/like what you are doing that means your work is good and so on. It is great to have a positive attitude and be optimistic. More power to you on that, but flat out there were a lot of things discussed in this that I feel people appropriately were upset about or was outright just bad quality stuff put on TV.
While I’ll admit, we where all a bit hard on cena. While yes he could wrestle. His completely repetitive and boring feud with Randy Orion was enough to have me stop watching.
But the video starts wrong Ppl legit was anti cena it wasn’t they got it wrong it was nothing to get wrong The rock brought a more mature audience back that was more active than younger fans Of course it’s going to go back to we love cena but moments are moments and for a moment no one wanted skittles
Dean is another case where people just throw the term 'misused' in the wrong direction. Yes, his last bits weren't anything good. But right before that, man went from WWE Champ, to IC champ, Tag Champion, after Tag Champion, to IC Champion again. Like, if that's misused then lmao.
My crowning achievement in life is predicting that Cody shouldnt win at WM 39 despite the whole word getting more and more convinced for should have for 9 months
I never understood the annoyance about the term "sports entertainment" itself. Pro wrestling isn't a "sport", so "sports entertainment" works well enough. Vince trying to erase the term "pro wrestling" and REPLACE it with sports entertainment I do understand the annoyance towards.
Judgement Day were better with Edge. I loved the scary supernatural gimmick. Although I do agree with Edge though, he should've turned Heel after WrestleMania.
"Roman sucks" Roman would then become one of the few good things in one of WWE's worse periods and continued to be so when WWE hit a resurgence. He and Cody helped usher the WWE into the current era which is the best era we've had in a long time. As a side we need a better name than the "Paul Leveque era"
That’s why AEW exists. As an alternative for people who don’t enjoy that kind of stuff. Some people don’t like Cena or many of the wrestlers WWE produces. Pretty sure you’re gonna say the same about Roman. Which is fine. The business is huge and everyone isn’t gonna love everyone. There are people who can’t stand the Rock or Austin. There’s people who hated the Undertaker’s gimmick and how he was booked. I personally think Cena should have started giving back a little sooner than his part time years but I do respect his work ethic. So I get you 💯. Granted the “excited to see him retire” remark was very mean spirited. 😔
Not crazy about this list. While Simon and the writers are generally correct that waiting and seeing is wiser than just shitting on things, some of the things mentioned-particularly booing Cena and the first Goldburg-Lesner match-were both a statement of overall opinion, and fans should have some freedom of liking or not liking something or someone as much as wrestlers have the right to retire or leave a company if they choose.
Judgement day NEEDED Edge so they could kick him out! That is what got them going! Ik people didnt like heel Edge but he had to be there for this to work out the way it did. Now this group has titles galore and have been dominant and without Edge it would have fallen flat.

people didn't hate Cena, they hated how he was booked for years and years on end.
Sweet!
Thumbnail: YOU SEE ME! 😂
RIP bray wyatt u are missed
I think some people in the comments think this is anti-wwe somehow. 😂
Did you notice Simon wearing his Kneepads while talking bout Cena? Simon Sucks.
While I’ll admit, we where all a bit hard on cena. While yes he could wrestle. His completely repetitive and boring feud with Randy Orion was enough to have me stop watching.
Replace “You” With “We”
While it's cool that we have the new Bloodline, it would've been cool if Solo Sikoa had a different character or kept his old one somehow
But the video starts wrong
Ppl legit was anti cena it wasn’t they got it wrong it was nothing to get wrong
The rock brought a more mature audience back that was more active than younger fans
Of course it’s going to go back to we love cena but moments are moments and for a moment no one wanted skittles
where is that shirt available?
John Cena does have a 5 star classic though according to Meltzer
Most of these are subjective opinions.
That ziggler rollins match was making me angry the fans were being annoying
I love the John Cena sucks chant. It's true, damn true
The tearm sports entertainment onley came about cause of legal reasons and vience not wanting to answer to any atheletic commisions
Tribal noodle☝️
I was definitely wrong about the Shield. Didn't get it for a while!
Link for that shirt, NICE!
I never hated Cena but I was more of a Orton guy but Cena my dude no lie
"Roman sucks" Roman would then become one of the few good things in one of WWE's worse periods and continued to be so when WWE hit a resurgence. He and Cody helped usher the WWE into the current era which is the best era we've had in a long time. As a side we need a better name than the "Paul Leveque era"
I still feel cena sucks never been able to stand him only time he got me excited over him was announcing his retirement
Thank you. I'm not the only 1.
@@sharkhenry8010 I love Roman and cant stand the spot fest style matches AEW does
Not crazy about this list.
Dean Ambrose was a horrible character
He was a great character top of the charts with his group & separate to
We need Roman back as tribal chief.
