Thanks for visiting Sam! Glad you enjoyed your visit!
A mix of bells and whistles here!
We have 4 trams, 14, 15, 16, 19 for inclement weather. And No 9 you ran on has those new doors on the downstairs bay.
15 was rebuilt from tram 17, in 2016, from an open side toast rack, to the saloon you experienced!
Car 2, is the ‘miniature’ version of what 14 would have looked like when it ran in London!
Let us know when you’re next visiting, we’ll get you driving and a visit to the depot!
'Sadly got adverts all over it'. Trams ran in the middle of towns and and nearly always had adverts all over them.
Adverts are just part of the decor.
Indeed. They would have had adverts on them back in their former lives, so it all adds to the sense of recreating the past.
In Glasgow trams carried advertising only after WW2.
Plus a good way to gain more revenue than just passengers
I like the sound the trams make as they trundle along. These half scale trams sound exactly like full scale. What a unique tramway system - brilliant
How delightful; very cool that there's people who run things like this for all of us to enjoy.
Great video Sam, good to see something different. The trams all look awesome here. Lucky you got good weather!
Awesome! Me and my family go quite often, we absolutely love it! I only wish i was there when you were!😅😅 great video sam as always, nuce to see something close to me!
Ahh fantastic - I love it too!! I'll definitely be back one day :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Even if you’re not into railways, this place looks like a really beautiful place to visit. 🙂
I did enjoy that Sam, something different. I do like it when you go out and about. The trams looked lovely. Thank you.
Love this. The adverts are subtle and well done, and I'm sure bring in important revenue, and that station building at Seaton is superb. A great mix of old and new, must visit!
The trolley pole reverser was common on systems which had terminus stations. Manual trolley reversing is/was used for changing direction in any other type of station. If you look at the books about trams the adverts go back pre WW2. Could not see how points where changed but they could be sprung toward the platform/loop exit with a electric magnet initiated by an on/off pulse from the approaching tram to switch the point to the other line the point returning as the tram stops in the loop. Try Crich tram village, Isle of Man (2 tram systems + railway), and Beamish Museum for further working tram 'trips'.
This kind of info sure makes me wish I had enough health and income to go visit the UK.
Due to taking a wrong turning on my way home from a holiday Cornwall, 6 years ago, I ended up heading for Seaton. It was mid afternoon so wondering if the tramway would still be open, I gave it a visit. Definitely a good decision, the trams were running so went for a ride. Well impressed, the weather was good and had a very enjoyable ride. Definitely worth the visit.
Want more could one want from a wrong turn. 😆
Those trams are awesome! They way they flipped the pantographs around was very smart.
Actually these are trolley poles but yes its so simple but so effective.
i love the fact im not the railway sort of autistic, but every time something like this comes up in my recommended i love all of it!! not sure if you've ever heard of it or been to it but the town of Bridge North has a cliffside railway with some beautiful railcars! the town its self is also very pretty!
Sam if you ever go to San Francisco you will love the street transport.
They have trolleybuses and the word famous cable cars, they also have the street railway which are tram cars.
Most of the trams are American PCC cars painted in fantastic liveries, however they also have trams from other countries includinf a Milan tram, a Melbourne tram and a Blackpool boat tram.
In fact, they have several trams from Milan and three Blackpool boats.
@MarceloBenoit-trenes I saw the Milan tram and went on one of the Boat trams.
The PCC cars a wonderful in so many liveries.
I really liked the Philadelphia livery.
My partner and I spent a pleasant day riding on the trams during our holiday at Seaton last year. Just along the coast, in Sidmouth, there's a fantastic toy museum with a massive vintage OO train layout.
Would love to see that toy museum; it's just a bit too far from Kansas City given health and income.
I went on this years ago, looks like they have improved it a lot. Nice to see the old track bed getting used.
I think the original trams used here used to be in Eastbourne ( Devonshire Park )before they had to move due to redevelopment. Had a couple of trips on the top deck in the rain, still can’t believe how they get round those tight curves. Watch for the dinosaurs!
As someone who grew up round there, I am so happy to see a big name such as yourself to visit
Traveled on those trams a few times in the past. Such a scenic ride.
I live near the Crich Tramway Museum and they have a nice route up through the old quarry cliffsides and it's definitely recommended if you want to go there.
They have an automatic turn around cable up there as well, and I definitely recommend going up there if you do.
The tramway has moved around a lot before settling in Seaton. Some of the old Eastbourne tram lines are there, including Tram 12.
We stayed a few days in Seaton and did a few trips on the trams. Need to do the learner course!
14 is a London Metropolitan Electric Tramways tram. 15 is "new" having been built in 1988 in the Manx style (15 still runs on the Manx line) and rebuild in 2016.
They have always carried advertising, so nice to still use them as moving billboards. As to rain - you get wet :P They do have blankets on board if it gets cold.
Yes one of the guides was saying that - fascinating history to the collection!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Awesome vid Sam! It's a lovely spot down there, I regularly visit the area during October and it is a really beautiful area!
Thanks a lot mate - ooh lovely - bet it's beautiful in October time!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
We live close by and regularly go on the trams. Archie (the dog) loves it, but we have to travel downstairs with him. They do a brilliant 'Polar Express' tram during the lead up to Christmas.
What a magical system, like a brief visit back in time. Great video.
I was there this weekend! Been visiting Seaton Tramway for over 25 years now! Never get bored of it.
As for the ads. Trams back in the day had ads on them, like some buses do now. That being said, they would've been ads of the era, whereas the ads on Seaton's Trams are very modern and can be a bit jarring with the classic looking façade of the cars. Car 12 is probably the worst offender atm, although I imagine the ads will be coming off that soon as it looked like Bovis Homes have completed their building work.
Yeah, some Trams do have whistle. I think, Cars 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15 (Formally 17) all have air compressed brakes so use whistles.
Car 14 is an original heritage Tram built in 1904. Originally a Standard Gauge London Met Type A. One is preserved as original in working order at Crich. Car 16 and 19 are also both Heritage Tram cars as well, both originally 3' 6" gauge.
Car 16 from Bournemouth built in 1921, and car 19 from the Exeter system built in 1906. Both were open top cars back in the day and converted into saloons for use at Seaton. One Bournemouth car survives in original condition and is on display, also at Crich.
Car 14 and I think 16 as well were cut down, basically into three parts and the middle taken out and the sides stuck back together.
Not sure but I think 19 may be unaltered other than the removal of it's top deck. Don't quote me on that though, in 25 years, I've never seen out! 😂
Always do the trip as Sam did from the Coliton end - you get free parking. Also its much nicer with a great cafe if you need warming up after your trip.
Wow, that was great. Looks like a well run operation with cool motive power. Nice B roll shots too ❤
Mmmmm, love it ! Nice attraction to see, I put in on my list of "to see" for the UK.
Very enjoyable visit, I knew of the tramway but didn't know they were so small. Lovely weather too Sam.
Thanks for sharing. Knew nothing about it. Excellent!
I've taken my family down there a couple of times. It is a very relaxing day out and the tram ride is very picturesque. Glad you had a great day Sam. I think it is well worth a visit.
I want to build something like this so bad.
I'm from Saint Paul, MN. The Twin Cities used to have the largest streetcar system in America. Theres an old line that used to go from Mahtomedi to Stillwater, and I would love to rebuild that line and open a heritage streetcar railway on the old right of way
I usually go on these trams from Colyton to Seaton when on holiday in Exmouth each year. Never been on the same tram so have travelled a different one each time. They usually have a different theme along the track, one year it was dinosaurs.
You must make a study trip to San Francisco, where they still operate vintage trams. (and check out the streetcars that are operated by cables)
They have THREE tram systems (the cable cars, the PCC and Peter Witt heritage line and the modern system), trolleybuses, BART (regional metro) and Caltrans suburban line (electrification will open on September).
I really enjoyed that. That was lovely, Sam. The trams in Belfast finished in 1954 and I took the trolleybus to school because they had taken over from the trams several years prior.
Thank you for taking us on your journey to Seaton Tramway.
What a beautiful day Sam. I am glad the weather agreed with you for your outing. That place looks great for a fun date or day out with the children.
A pleasant and interesting change thank you Sam.
We did Seaton Tramway and Peco in the same day. Came across Peco purely by accident. Spent a good couple of hours there.
Nice to see you enjoy a full scale (sort of) railway for a day! The area looks quite nice, as do many of the trams. One thing I found interesting is some of the Seaton trams were actual, revenue-earning vehicles that have been shortened or widened to fit the Seaton chassis.
There's three trolley (tram) museums in a 3-4 hour drive from where I live in the States, and this video has inspired me to check them out in the near future.
Good video it has been many years since we rode this tramway
Makes a pleasant change from model railways.
I live not far frm Blackpool, and trams during the illuminations are a must see.
Thanks for a great video Sam.
Seems they have some quality mechanisms...😂 Great video of a nice tram trip through lovely scenery.
Seaton Tramway is in East Devon on the Jurassic coast. South Devon is where you have Torquay and Dartmouth to be exact.
Been many years since I was on this tramway, We just went from Seaton to Colyton where we had a meal beforereturning to Seaton. Great day out.
That looks marvelous. Thanks for sharing that with us. Nice to see this sort of video on your channel once in a while for a change of pace.
It really was lovely - glad you liked seeing this for a change!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Nice job sam
Thanks a lot Justin!
That was very interesting. I had read about this tramway, great to see it on video.
Lovely to see a video of the Tramway again, somewhere I visited many years ago.
They dual purpose Seaton station / convert hall must have been built since, it wasn’t there when I went.
Guess I will have to go again 😊
I’ve been to seaton tramway a couple times, once was many years ago before the major seaton end renovation and the other once the building was refurbished, it’s a lovely little tramway
You should visit Crich Tramway Village for a future video. It has the biggest collection of trams in the UK
What a lovely day not at the loft hahah. We've just looked up the Seaton Tramway, and on Wikipedia all the trams are listed, as well as the history. Very intriguing. Very joyful all those colours and vintage experience 🙂
You could have gone to Colyton Tannery (if its still open for tours) while you were there; the last oak bark tannery in Britain; you never would have forgotten that visit!!!
Well, that was different. I wish we had something near me here in the states but sadly no. Great video, Jersey Bill
Always nice to see a different type of Video every once in a while
You came out of the loft again?! Did you like the fresh air last time? 😜
Love trams
We've been on the Seaton tramway... It was really enjoyable, but we were not as fortunate with the weather as you were.
I’m off to Seaton this weekend so just the right timing. Hopefully we get lucky like you with the weather
Hi Sam, Hope you got to Peco, and have a ride on the mini train 🚂, All the best Brian 😄
Oh you are my fecking hero!!!!!!! You must do Crich. Beamish and Heaton Park oh and East Anglia x Trams are awesome!
I use to go here a lot when I was a kid staying with my grandad on our family holiday. I probably haven't been for about 7 years now, would love to go again
Looks like it is quite relaxing. I liked places like this to visit and just relax.
I thought this is going to have a bad review, NO SPRINGBUFFERS😜🤣
But it looked quit good.
Devon is one of the few places I've never been to in the UK, high on the list though.
Hopefully you get to the home of Peco, that will be very interesting to see…
Have a nice Holliday Sam, hopefully some better weather😎, maybe some consolation here in Belgium it's the same weather…☔🤨
I was wondering if anyone would have brought up the lack of sprung buffers
Looks like a great day very interesting
Ooo, I volunteer on a tramway here in Australia! Lovely little line, emphasis on little, it’s only about 1.3km’s long. But it is by a lake and botanical gardens, so it’s a pleasant trip
Really enjoyed your day out. Wish I could have been there. Thanks.
Ah... the reversable seats. I remember running down the top deck slamming the seats over and being told off by the conductor. Trams finished in Sheffield in 1960. I must have been six or seven at the time.
Absolutely lovely
I was there last month and yes it is a great place to visit. Great video as well really enjoyed it.
Hello sam! Car 15 used to be completely different as it was previously a 'toast rack' open air tram. Very interesting transformaron it has 4 or 5 years ago
I did hear from some public transport YT channel that trams can be refered to as light raightway so it dose make some sense to make use of train tracks for trams.
Tho to me it is weird seeing tram entirely divorced from roadway. i only ever see tram tracks in between on or at least near roads where i am from. (long while ago i assumed that was one of qualifiers for tramways - must be road or adjacent)
Considering that red and white tram colour scheme is fairly common i would venture a guess that it might just be coincidental similarity to North eastern autocar.
If it is more question on overall design than there is the convergent development theory - at same time same way of using same technology results in eerily similar looking vehicles.
As someone who is very much into trams i do adore this video.
Hi Sam, If you said you were coming down, I live in Seaton 😅, I have to put up with this and Peco, All the best Brian 😃
A while since I travelled on the tramway which fortunately wasn't as crowded and Seaton had the old station still. Looks like a lot of house building has gone on since I was there. Good video pity about the muzak!
Nice Trams with Lovely Views - Thanks for Sharing 😊🚂🚂🚂
That was a nice chang! Thanks for sharing your day with us! I thought they looked abought 1/2 scale!...
You'll have to call it, "Sam's Trams"! It is good to see you getting out and about instead of getting prison palor in that loft! Good choice of angles and shots. Thans for uploading.
I would recommend a visit to the Isle of Man if you get the chance and ride the trams/trains there.
Thanks for the tour. What a beautifully scenic railway. I wish we had kept seaside trams in France... the line is sadly cut at the border with Belgium.
I wonder how they've built their rolling stock? The hardware, controls, bogies, looks ancient.
SAM - Fun ride. Nice day, THANK YOU.
Many thanks - really enjoyed that. Apparently the idea started at Eastbourne in the 1950s, then moved to Seaton. At 2'9", TT gauge track would be almost correct for an adjunct to an OO guage model railway. Might you be inspired to produce an 00n12 Seaton style tram on the 3D printer?
What a surprise vedio from my local tramway most enjoyable and excellent in every possible way thank you young sir.
Superb video, thank you
Interesting and entertaining! Thanks for sharing this with us!
A truly wonderful video. Nothing like relaxing with a cup of tea and enjoying a video like this. I think I will forward the link to a group here in Canada who are trying to refurbish an old railway line. Electric trams might be just the thing and and an easy "get around" for two way traffic on a single track. Thanks.
Thank you so much Robert, so glad you enjoyed this one! Absolutely - it's a great way to bring an old Railway back to life!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Ha, I was on this last week, though we started from the Seaton end and hit Buffers Model shop 'nearby' rather than Peco. Nice coincidence. Glad you got good weather for it.
What an amazing purely business trip!
That's great that the community has some trams .... was looking for a review
Sam’s Trams got a bit of ring to it 👍 Great video thanks and you had summer
Years ago I visited Seaton, without being aware of the tramline. Unfortunate with the commersials on the tram, but I guess the money is highly needed.
Awesome video today Sam hope you had a great day out
Awesomeness Extreme
Sitting in this hot humid warehouse in Buffalo, waiting for orders to catch up after the holiday (4th) . Thanks for the get a way for a few moments. 👍
Awesome video Sam's trains 😊
Thank you Brian! :D
@@SamsTrains you're welcome Sam's trains 🚆 😊
They once did a 24hr tramathon that was live streamed on facebook. Watching trams running throughout the night was interesting. People donated money throughout the day
Sam, that looks like a lot of fun.
I haven’t even watched the full thing yet, but this is wonderful!
Thank you Levi! :D
Great vid Sam. Are you planning on reviewing the new Dapol Hawthorn Leslie tank engines?
Thank you! Yes review on the way soon!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I would not mind going there. Actually driving those things would be something id enjoy doing.
Hope you are off to pecorama if you're nearby at Seaton Sam... Its brilliant!
