the ambassador was solid as a rock, and the sad part is you would not get much insurance claim since it would destroy other cars but still be intact during any accidents 🤣🤣just kidding
The 1991 Contessa had the best AC and best rear seat comfort at that time. While 75 Hp is not much of a powerhouse but this car is one of the best cars to drift around due to its coil suspension and precise gear change.
There's one in my grandpa's garage. The grand old man has passed away after a happy good full life. I'm not sure who owns it now, technically. My younger maternal uncle had restored it once.
I suddenly got teleported back to my childhood when my dad was about to buy his second, we already had an ambassador but it was always the Contessa that captivated me, remember asking my dad to buy the Contessa but sadly he went ahead with another car. Since then it has always been a dream of mine to own this car. Thanks man for the trip down memory lane.
I'm drooling over this Contessa. It's been my favorite car since childhood in Kolkata where our family didn't own a car. I used to stop and look at them on the streets. Now I wish to buy one if it can be kept in running condition. This one runs way better than a Swift Desire as I can see. Thanks for the video.
this is not a muscle car look at muscle cars from other places they have much larger engines and dont look like family saloons compare it with a mustang new or older and you will see the difference.
contessa is a really very good looking classic car made by hindustan motors in early 90s my uncle he had on 1995 model diesel variant contessa engine was little noisy but the peformance of the car is really awesome thats why i really like this car
To be Frank I always viewed this car as a badly made sedan. But now that you have planted this idea of it being a potential muscle car...I can imagine how much this resembles the yesteryear classic muscle cars
All Plastic Shits all of them even components in Engine , that is not from cheap car makers but big ones likes of bmw mercedes , Modern Cars run fine until warrenty ends then need replace with new one.
apparently the HM Contessa GLX (H/FE) 1.8 OHC I4 4-Dr Executive Sedan (RHD) was based on the 1974 Vauxhall Victor VX2300 (FE) 2.2 OHC I4 4-Dr Executive Sedan (RHD) . . . brilliant car in terms of power, high speed stability & compliant suspension . . . driving the HM Contessa GLX (H/FE) 1.8 OHC I4 4-Dr Executive Sedan (RHD) at 100 kph felt like ur doing 80 kph . . . that's why it was great to drive on the highway, it felt so very surefooted & always in control of the driver . . . it's only flaw at the time was it's poor fuel economy, barely 7.0 kpl in city driving with air conditioner most of the time . . . by the way the name Contessa has been borrowed from the word Quintessa . . .
This car is a legend… class if its own! My close friend’s grandfather had designed its engine when he worked for HM, and with that I have seen India’s very first Contessa.
All that sound for 88 hp ?? I had the exact same car - a 1991 1.8 GLX Isuzu petrol. Bought it in 2002 for 25000 and sold it after a year for 25000. It was Maroon.. a dream to drive on the highway as it coasts along like a boat. I ran it on LPG too those days. But it gave decent average on petrol itself. Gearbox was slick. I personally liked the muted exhaust note than this loud valvetronic version.❤
That is a well kept car and congratulations to the owner. Contessa Classic has never been classified as a muscle car..although it has some looks of the same.. This car is based on Vauxhall Victor in UK as you said and the similar ones in Australia are called Holden Kingswood.. You would hardly see a Vauxhall Victor in UK; but there are some well maintained pristine condition Holden Kingswoods still in Australia.. I remember travelling in a Isuzu engin Contessa car back in 1990s in Kerala which belonged to one of my friends.. Malayalam movie star Mammootty used to own a Contessa Classic with the Rego KCF 369 and I`ve seen that many times in 90s.. Thanks for the upload..!!
My grandfather had gotten 2 contessas. For one he chopped the roof off and strengthened the base and made it into a convertible. The other, he chopped it midway, added 3 feet and made it into a limo. He lived in a town where he was a businessman and his cars were the talk of the town.
This car holds a special place in my heart. It's not just a car; it's a piece of history. I remember the days when seeing a Contessa on the road was a treat. Its timeless design and powerful engine made it stand out from the crowd. A true classic!
Every time I see one of these OG Indian cars, I stop to look at them and admire the beauty. But lately people have been modifying them like a ricer and made them disgusting. But man this Owner has good taste. He’s made the car look like it just rolled off the production line an hour ago. The body works is done perfectly, perfect wheels to match the car, perfect amount of chrome. This is the best example of restoration and maintenance of a car. And Man, thanks for sharing this ride here with us. You did a great job.
I had this car till 2 months back, had to scrap it due to NGT ruling in Delhi, had it converted to single door, fastback style C pillar in sunshine orange colour, pained me a lot to see it getting scrapped😢😢
My dad bought this car in 1989 and sold it in 2012, I was too young at the time (10th-11th std) to convince my dad to keep it as he said, it was costing too much to maintain it and was just sitting in our parking area for the last couple of years, so he sold it off to a wedding planner guy who wanted to modify it and rent it out to people on their weddings. Now I really want to get it back. I really have fond memories of this car from my childhood. I had heard rumors in 2022 about Hindustan Motors bringing back contessa as an electric vehicle, not sure how true the news is, but I honestly feel it would lose its value of it being a 'muscle car' if it comes back in electric.
I wouldn't be dreaming for Mustang or Dodge Challenger 8f Hindustan Motors was still alive and they constantly upgraded Contessa. This car was roaring back and I understood why my dad dreamt to buy this. He wanted Contessa but since family was big, he had to buy Tata Sumo in 1996.
Love the car! I too grew up sitting in Ambassador, Herald and Morris Minor. Lot of good memories about these classics! Just a tip, Guys please wear seat belts when making video. This way you also inspire others to take care about safety.
Wonderful job!! The bumpers were in the previous model, with the 1.5 litre engine. Being an independent suspension on all 4,the ride comfort was good. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Bangalore guys always ultimate in remodeling the car/bikes that how we gives reborn even to non living things 😊 Proud to be an Bangalurian Good job guys wonderful car i saw ths beautiful car in Padayappa movie😂 then now
few years back i went back to old scrapyard with my friend they were selling this car for 40000rs .....but i think this man passion for this car made him spent so much
respect for the guy, craftsmen who did the work on this car, and also metal beings for bringing up an example. What a passionate car owner and craftsmanship looks like, that too in India. We need more people like these and more content like this, please. And what a deal he got. Please find and bring up more people like this cool gentleman. We need an ecosystem of such passionate car owners and craftsmen, I believe that will like help steer more innovation and creativity into our auto industry and general culture around auto engineering. And have to say that beauty sounded one of the best I've ever heard in our desi auto brands. Again respect and requesting more of that. And one suggestion can you also try to find out and bring forth workshops and craftsmen who are capable of that kind of work or even better, that would be really valuable and awesome in many ways...
Sadly, with stringent BS6 norms and the ICE engine itself getting phased out gradually, car enthusiasts will be robbed of pure driving pressure as well as such restorative pleasures of yesteryears.
He can always put rear passenger adjustable headrests in the car to complete the cabin on inside. And i know most purists won't like the suggestion i am giving but you can always put a petrol 1.8ltr Dual VVT-i engine gearbox from Corolla altis in this car with steering assembly, suspension and bigger front discs from Corolla . Because its modern, reliable, fuel efficient and fun to drive compared to the noisy old fuel guzzler that is the Isuzu 1.8ltr petrol engine powering the contessa . Then it will be atleast worthy of being called a muscle car.
Contessa is my dream car. I hope some Indian manufacturer brings back the design. A quick help. Please can you share some details about the seats. Thanks.
6:50 revving = likes 😍 she is a beauty and well maintained by a car enthusiast . This car definitely needs a makeover like a mustang, it'd be really cool.
looks awesome, classic old muscle car with steel .. Just have to beef up wheels, and clean metallic paint and enhance sound then it would look like American muscle cars
People in the comments arguing about this being a sedan, saloon or a muscle car. In my opinion, this car nearly and almost, does look like a 1969 Mustang Boss, the one John Wick drove. Give a similar vibe.
HM can bring the Contessa and Ambassador back to market and it will still sell. Those were some amazing cars.
There’s no HM anymore 😕
In Ghajini, Asin’s entire dream is to buy an Ambassador. I get that dream now, even though the car isn’t exactly ‘original’
HM sold trademarks of Contessa and Ambassador to VW when HM became bankrupt, HM can use some other name but not the previous ones.
the ambassador was solid as a rock, and the sad part is you would not get much insurance claim since it would destroy other cars but still be intact during any accidents 🤣🤣just kidding
Definitely 👍

Put an JDM engine in there and boom its a beast
@@DefinitelyAreo Tokyo Drift vibes
If you love engine smoothness and slickness of gearshift then you should have tried the smaller 118NE.
Best Contessa Restoration or Modification i've seen so Far in India . Thank you for the Love of its Owner , its like a Baby for him definitely 👍👌👏
Give me a contessa i am done with my life
Sure someday soon
You will cry … 5kms/L
There is a abandoned contessa near my coaching.
@@sauvagyananda1bruh it'll own by car enthusiasts who already having 3 4 cars 😂

The 1st gen Contessa Classic 1.8 had 88 BHP and later models had 72 BHP in regard of fuel consumption
this is not a muscle car

0369: number of a legendary malayalam actor and a great car enthusiast in india.
Absolutely
Who?
Mr. Mammotty
His Contessa was KCF 369
Mammoth and Dulquer obviously
The only Contessa on you tube which justifies the glory of its Era....Thanks to owner for not doing weird mods on the car....Loved it a lot
Thank you

Every Hindustan motor car was licensed British or Australian car
This is the comment I was looking for. I instantly recognized this car as a Vauxhall and googled to find the year/model.
Wish they make one today with all the high tech features!
Your wish will come true. One day.
These electric cars have high tech features. People are frightened to put the heater on because the battery loses 30% of its cold.
I'd be the very person who'll purchase one as soon as relaunched in the Indian market. It surely be the dream car for the 80's and 90's lads.
HM has shut down. Used to be owned by Birla and had factory in Kolkata
Brother i have never seen a contessa so good looking and cool. I really really was looking for a good one to own damn bro you are lucky
In my child hood, I was tavelled in Contessa car with my father,
That moment I never forget.
How can a 90s Contessa owner's kid have such bad English? ... I guess something went terribly wrong somewhere with you
This is the only car which i always love, absolutely Legendary vehicle
This car is a legend… class if its own! My close friend’s grandfather had designed its engine when he worked for HM, and with that I have seen India’s very first Contessa.
Shaded parking is essential for this beautiful Masterpiece❤
Mysuru gaadi guru! ✨✨✨ Awesome 👍😎
He said it was in UK😢😢😢, adre Namma Mysuru gadi guru...
Man! this car is so sexy. IDK HM couldn't modernise it.
If I existed in 1990s, this would haven been my car
Contessa during those times in movies was stereotyped as carriers of Industtualists,Politicians,Underworld Don etc

Man that's a beauty. I still think none of the Indian car today can compete with this beauty in terms of looks.
The first family car we got, I learned driving on it. Ours had a Izusu engine, it was a head turner and commanded a lot of respect on the road.

Why didn't you sold it?
Bought it for 75k and spent 9 Lacs on it. It's crazy
And for some reason his loan didn't got sanction to buy Swift...😅

Holy wow that’s a beautiful job on the interiors
I saw this car in Whitefield yesterday, near Graphite India junction.... Looked killer on the road ❤
Nice Colour and that Vintage look's, Amazing
It needs to return...with same design & all modern features.
With such a big hood...imagine a 2L turbo diesel.
Maybe its too much to ask😅

I hope an Indian brand actually manufactures a muscle car in the near future, with the similar shape.
Wonderful job!! The bumpers were in the previous model, with the 1.5 litre engine. Being an independent suspension on all 4,the ride comfort was good. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!!!
These bumpers came with the 1.8 petrol Contessa Classic. The 1.5 engine was only in the 1st version, that had mechanicals from the Ambassador
Independent suspension??
@@shahan484 yes , independent wishbone suspension google it up

Believe me ,if Contessa comes back it will sell like hot 🔥 cake.,but with a 💪 engine
It has killer looks ❤ Thanks for sharing this ☺️
I love your narration❤❤
this car deserves a comeback superb looks
Great restoration, the add ons and almost everything, except for the loud disturbing exhaust noise which could be a magnet for traffic cops too.
