I kept waiting for you to say you were dumping the scum and garbage someplace out of the way... Like the neighbors yard over this fence here :) Great video! As someone who's done this more than once now it's helpful to know that others are capable of the same mistakes!
Make your own PBW! 70% sodium percarbonate, 30% sodium metasilicate. Fill your vessels with warm water, about 60°C, throw in a cup of two of your mix and leave for a few hours. Give the vessel a bit of a scrub with a sponge, empty, and rinse out. Sanitize if you'd like to make sure it's completely clean, and you're good to go! I've been using this on my brew kettle and fermenters for a while with great results.
I've been using the same food grade plastic buckets as my primaries since the mid 80s. No problems, no worries. When the mash comes off the grain, fruit, or whatever it goes into glass - or the still.
I always clean up after a run and after a ferment. Then I clean again before I start another batch. Seems like I’m always cleaning but I’d rather be sure I’m not contaminating anything.
Ha! I use the exact same oxi cleaner with my brewing equipment. It's freaking awesome. I'm currently finishing up a modular still with a gin basket. I'm really excited to try it out. Thank you, Jesse for lots of information and inspiration. 🤘
Plastic tends to hold on tightly to funky odors. I have an ozone generator. I thinking start it up and set the container over it. Heck that might even work for that pair of “weapons grade deadly” shoes. Good video, Jesse. Thank you.
I love that you are not afraid to experiment! lol. As soon as I have the money.....I am getting one of those stills (the pot still)! I'm going to have to go through to see when & how you made the chocolate whisky! Looks like the stuff my roommate left in the sink! Yuck! lol. Glad you clarify what you can & cannot get away with for sanitizing. Ty!
I like to put all the dirty/sticky pots and buckets into a trash can with hot water off my condenser from a stripping run pouring into it. Cleaning with hot condenser water during a stripping run is a good use of time/water.
Good to see you and that you're doing good. I use dish washing liquid, hot water and a long handle scrub brush. Lil time and elbow grease like you did and good as new
Sure had a BLAST of a time at Andalusia!!! The tasting with the “Faults” was SUPER COOL ! It actually helped my wife to finally understand what to “look for” in a whisky ! Thanks again for your hard work putting it together! Y’all come back soon ,, we Texans loved having you 😎👍
Glad you're back Jesse. I've recently started distilling after researching for months. Your videos have been invaluable. Huge thank you! Plus I love learning from a fellow kiwi. Side note and completely unrelated, the longer your beard gets, the less you look like my uselss ex boyfriend. So I'm a big fan of the beard. 5 stars.
I used plain white king's bleach on all my brew gear that went sour for the same reason I filled everything up to the top with water and put about two cups of bleach in and left it for a week. It all came out squeaky clean 😁 all my beer and spirits are all good.👍 Nice work .
I use the cheaper option from Aldi. A nother thing to use it for fill the stainless steel kitchen sink with hot water and add all the stained cups soak for half a hour rinse and the sink is shiny and your cups are stain free. Your other half will love it no scrubbing just wash the cups before use.
The big blue barrel, sod using the brush... get the lid on and roll it around on its side... like a barrell!! Take it for a walk (or roll) down the street!!
When I need to clean my equipment, I start by soaking it in scalding hot water and dish soap. that combination is usually enough to remove most debris on its own. I follow it up scrubbing, then hitting it with oxyclean, rinse and dry.
I would recommend filling the container with water first, then add the PBW or other cleaner. Pouring water onto the PBW sends it airborne and breathing that stuff in is not fun.
@ 4.25 mins put the blue tub on its side and roll it back and forth on the ground leaving the brush in the 6 clock position whilst moving laterally up and down the sides of the tub. in my experience easiest way to clean 200L tubs
I'd love to see you do a Kirsch some day Jesse, it's in my opinion the finest representation of fruit brandy that exists, I'm German so maybe I'm biased, but the taste you get out of good Kirsch is so representative of the cherry that it's mind blowing.
hey Jesse I see that you use a 1 gallon distiller for your small test batchs. I am interested in purchasing one but am wondering if you could do a video on the product and what you think with tips and other info. Thanks
Just a quick question / opinion, I just finished a hard cider, fermented apple juice, I was going to rack it off into a secondary and then thought I could make a sugar wash and dump it right on top of that yeast cake in the bottom of that carboy, do you think the sugar wash would take right off and start fermenting? Or should I clean it out then use fresh yeast
Ias long as the yeast did a good job first time around I would say it will.just take off. I'd put it in on top, if nothing is happening in about 24-48 hours pitch more yeast.
Can you sponsor me to live in New Zealand. I would like to legally distill and have a sheep. Also Oxiclean works wonders. I run it through my brewing system every 10 ish runs. Its scary what it pulls out.
So you couldn’t get the wife to clean the mess for you after all. Is the plastic safe to use even with all that moldy grain growing on it. I know you cleaned it and star sanitized it. I thought once mold took to plastic it was junk.
Hi Jesse, is there any chance to contact you via email? There is an issue I would like to inform you about, and you might be able to help me. It is important for me, but very very brief though.
Have you ever seen the channel Brewzle? His YT shorts of him testing other content creators tasting notes on bourbon are a bit weird... Thought you'd get a kick out of it
Jesse - that opening scene looks like you’re dumping over the fence into your neighbors yard 😂
And the problem with that is?
Thought that too 😂
Thought so too
Bahaha I thought that too 😂
I kept waiting for you to say you were dumping the scum and garbage someplace out of the way... Like the neighbors yard over this fence here :)

Always good to see how others do this stuff... some new ideas can come :) Thanks Jesse! I hope you had a blast in the states!
Thank you for sharing this with us! Learning how to deal with complete failures can make everyone much less likely to give up. Me at least. Thanks.
I always clean up after a run and after a ferment. Then I clean again before I start another batch. Seems like I’m always cleaning but I’d rather be sure I’m not contaminating anything.

Dilute PH some before mixing with plant beds. Little acid is good. Too much acid will kill all your plants.

Jesse! So glad to see you've made it back home safe. That is a nasty mess! Lol

Have you ever tried distilling sunflower seeds into wiskey?
If not could you try it?
I would recommend filling the container with water first, then add the PBW or other cleaner. Pouring water onto the PBW sends it airborne and breathing that stuff in is not fun.
Pressure washers do wonders
even the small electric ones. 👍
Glad to see your back home and I hope your trip here to the u.s was great and you had alot of fun
Oxy clean is potent stuff. It's basically one-step (star san) plus a detergent. A couple tablespoons would have worked. Don't need a Half container
Dumps filth into neighbor's yard 1:30 , don't let Jacinda Arden see that.
Yea buddy he’s back at it. That clawhammer screen is a bitch to clean.
I love the soft broom idea.

I use nappy San as well. local brew shop said its the same as the shit they sell in the small jars for beer brew cleaning.
Wow jesse, I see you've got the clawhammer supply brew kettle.....I personally love that company and get almost all of my equipment those guys
Watching a guy clean his gunked equipment.
Oh what a world we live in.
hey Jesse I see that you use a 1 gallon distiller for your small test batchs. I am interested in purchasing one but am wondering if you could do a video on the product and what you think with tips and other info. Thanks
Good for the garden
Tip rubbish over the neighbours fence I like the solution.😂😂😂

You should try making something from pinon nuts. I have no idea if it's possible or what flavors would come through but it makes a good coffee lol
Personally, I’d use a pressure washer to get most of the work done.
Also good for dissolving your sugar
Hey mate, love your stuff.
Here's a challenge, What could you do with coffee beans?
Never done wrong with good ol' fashioned dish soap for cleaning, and bleach for sterilization (plastic and glass).
Thats the same way i get rid of all the dog poo. Chuck it over to the neighbors place lol
high pressure water spray is my best friend, karcher, gernie etc
Dump it in the neighbor’s yard! Atta boy! 😂

What is that strainer thing you use? Link pls?
Check out claw hammer supply in the USA. Good equipment man
Hey you know what I do when I can’t afford to buy liquor? I still it!
It's very hard on your hands.
I just let the deer clean my equipment
Just use chemipro OXI. Same stuff, but ALOT cheaper. ;)
I use H2O2
Don’t dump the dunder pit!
Really scraping the barrel for content here🤣
Step 1. Dump it out in the neighbors yard lol
So you dump the nasty into the neighbors yard? Lol.
Hi Jesse, is there any chance to contact you via email? There is an issue I would like to inform you about, and you might be able to help me.
It is important for me, but very very brief though.
Aren't you worried about rats when dumping grains?
that's what owls are for
Oxyclean, also known as sodium percarbonate :)
comment in the commenty section.
Of course the Kiwi has a sheep...
Everybody already knows how to clean.
Have you ever seen the channel Brewzle? His YT shorts of him testing other content creators tasting notes on bourbon are a bit weird... Thought you'd get a kick out of it
Your seriously that phobic bro? You won't touch It?
