Captain Shaw transition from a****** to a team player was the very instant when Picard says the boy is his son he knew right away he can't do nothing now and accepts the admiral s command and that's when I respected him the most
@@colonelharland7833 Shaw didnt need to even say that as it is blatantly obvious in any chain of command. i guess he was merely asserting his prickly nature.

When I watched S3E1 and saw Todd's character I thought to myself, "oh no, he is going to screw this all up". Meaning, Todd having to find the correct tone and social dynamic for a starship captain with Jeri as a commander and going toe-toe with the old toads. He nailed it and so did Jeri...that dinner scene was powerfully crafted and intense. WELL DONE! Trek on.
Totally agree with your description of Shaw. He is so different from what we have come to expect from Starfleet officers who normally revere the legends. And that immediately gives him his weight in the series.
The disdain he shows for Riker & Picard seems like he has some kind of past trauma he needs to deal with. (Maybe he was a survivor of the battle of Wolf 359 ?)
Todd did a really great job. Sold the hail outta his character. It's been so long since I have seen acting that good especially from an actor with whom I was not previously familiar.
Captain Shaws' character is coming along and is 3 dimensional, he cares about the safety of his entire crew of 500, and tries to do the best thing for his crew facing a powerful enemy. However, he does come around to help Picard and Riker in episode 2 risking all with the encouragement of Seven's speech. Conflict within the crew can lead to great drama. The ship the Titan has a name that can rise to the occasion and possibly outsmart the bigger ship.

She was so surprised b/c she was only on Voyager, but the Star Trek fans are very die hard. As for Stashwick, i loved him as Deacon in 12 Monkeys, and my old car had a West VII decal.
I initially thought Shaw was going to be this disposable character that Picard and Riker would just clearly outclass like Kirk did to the Enterprise B captain at the beginning of Generations and replace. I was surprised to find that I actually really like Shaw and hope to see more of him. TBH, for better or worse, he's the Star Trek captain I actually find most relatable.

Paris , Kim, Tuvok , and the EMH who was responsible for Seven's very being . Her sparring partner Bel'ana Torres and great friend Nelix .
Captain Shaw and Seven deserve their own series. Maybe continuing on the Titan-A or commanding the Enterprise-F in a series called “Star Trek: The Third Generation” isn’t that what we all truly want a crew on a ship called Enterprise?
Maybe they should give Jeri Ryan and this Stashwick guy their own series after Picard is finished. Begin The Voyage of Star Trek into the 25th Century? Maybe they could battle the evil Section -31?
The irony of Captain Shaw, chewing out Picard and Riker for all their (mis)adventures and recklessness, being put in an episodic weekly show with the weird perils sure to follow..."Oh my god. They cursed me, somehow. Both of them."
Captain Shaw reminds me more of the real-life captains I have met in my career. Putting the ship and the crew first, earnest and reflective. Taking no orders from people outside the chain of command. I love the adventures of the all the other captains of Star Trek, but the crew survival rates would be much better under a Captain Shaw.
I've been watching Voyager recently, and Captain Janeway places a lot of importance on the crew's safety and getting them home, although she also takes a lot of risks.
I would love to see Seven become Captain of Voyager A or B!! at the End of the season. Maybe having Admiral Janeway present Seven with her Captain Pips would be a cool Easter Egg!!!
