Soul Coughing is the coolest band of all time. Thanks for posting this. When I was the program director at a small radio station I had 61 Soul Coughing songs in steady rotation.
I don't care what Mike says. If you get a chance to play with a drummer like Yuval you put up with a lot of shit. These guys don't look un-engaged either. Yuval is a master and looks like he is having fun. Sebastian is working his ass off and Mark is a wizard.
I saw Soul coughing around 1995 in San Diego and just recently saw Mike Doughty live in San Francisco playing this album in its entirety with Andrew on cello- it kicked ass and was one of the best small shows I've seen live in my life. It got me into MD's solo stuff which I am enjoying alot.
I found an old tape at a hotel in London with Ruby Vroom recorded on it, I couldn't believe what I was listening! One of the records I love the most from my entire music collection.
I can't explain what makes me so crazy about this band! Is it the groovy -yet sometimes wobbly- sound of the double bass? Is it the funky beat -played with a slight delay-? Is it the weird, violin-like sound coming out of the keyboard? Is it the nerdy look of the vocalist with his sexy voice and his wild guitar sound? The funny thing is : on September 11th 2001, when I saw on television what was happening in Manhattan, I couldn't help immediately thinking of the first words of this song!
I saw these guys when they were on absolute master of their art , around 1995 , 96 , 97 , 98 . They gave 2 extraordinary concerts in Belgium i attended . the crowd was amazed by the show and the funny sides of Mr daughty . the grooooooove was so unique . best period ever for amazing music talent bands .
This is the first time Ive actualy seen the singer. Ive been lisning to this seens I was about three years old, thank you dad. But I have to say, he looks nothing at all like i would ever think.
See I think he's one of the guys that looks exactly like he sounds. The first time I heard them I thought "White beatnik with glasses", and I was not disappointed.
Hey! Check out their ”urban art bar live” show on RUclips. It will blow your mind! And yes, Doughty is doing his own thing. You should check him out! His stuff is good too! Well, of course since he wrote all of the soul coughing songs. :)
You're welcome! And trust me, after u see that show that I just recommend, you’ll be hooked like me! Lol and I’m also late. I’ve seen soul coughing on MTV and heard songs on Cartoon Network but I was too young to get into them like that.
This song was the first thing I thought of back in 2001 when the Bush administration claimed that nobody could have imagined someone flying a plane into a building.
@Zummusic, @mouldyteabag Mike won't play this song anymore. Much as I love the song, I can't blame him. @crazychadmb He WAS younger... and well... drugs.
ummm.. he played this song 6 years after 9/11 so still plays it live just took some time to get over considering he lived blocks from ground 0. also he played it the 9/10 14 hours later the buildings went down
I agree, though I don't anything of the other players, they seem like a tight band onstage. I know Mike had worked with 808 state before SC, but what of the other guys?
Just saw them last night in Chicago. Holy shit! I mean holy FUCKING shit! What an amazing performance. What an awesome band! So grateful to have finally heard them live. 😊🤟
this is when sampling was the real deal ... you sampled your OWN sounds, altered them (or not) and it was an additive to live sound! Now? People just push buttons and play other's hard work and are considered super stars; sad state of affaires for those who worked our ass off to learn an instrument and those who loved to hear the real vibe from stage!
soul coughing is so cool, except for Doughty. sure, unpopular opinion. but doughty is an asshole. saw him solo and he literally told the crowd to stop talking while he was playing or he'd walk off.

Such a tight band. So sad to hear they hated each other. MD is a bad ass. Will forever love those three records.
+Nancy Gilman MD was a heroin addict. He's clean now.
@@BadSneakers I thought it was cocaine but yeah I could see him speed balling
It’s often the case great bands hate each other 🤣
no one sound like Soul Coughing now, so original, unique acoustic guitar sound and bass sound. One of the best alternative band ever !

He must have listened to Jaki L of Can from the start..

That, combined with your WEEN profile pic, it is clear you have fantastic taste in music lol
I bought Ruby Vroom when it came out back in 94. Great album! A fresh new sound that mix funk, folk and electronic vibe.
same. after super bon bon I was a fan for life. Ruby Vroom took it to a new level

So excited.
Merci beaucoup pour l'upload, c'est collector !
Still a classic . David Letterman was a fan. . Cheers to some fantastic vibes

They were great together. Never get tired of this tune
Amen. Yuval for president. that boy got BEAT.
Doughty doesn't move like this anymore. it's a shame.
bad-assed clip, man.
I saw them in 94, and they were the opening act. Didn't think they could be topped, then Jeff Buckley hit the stage.
Game Over.
Reunion here we come!
more please thank you
really nice, thanx a lot
Fantastic band!
I forgot how much i played this album back in the 90s. Now that i have an upright i immediately went and played this bass part. Fun.
they will be back in the Fall with a " Ruby Vroom " 30th anniversary Us tour . Check it out
Soul Coughing had no rules....just superb manipulations of sound and noise and verse....plus a good show that went with it.
super collector to put this ! owesome band i saw many times in belgium ! yeahhhhhhhhhh let's groove

Just discovering this very good band. I was late to the party but got there. Anyone know what these guys are now doing in 2020?
mike doughty is on his own. not sure about the rest of them

damn solid.. classic SC!!! I heart!!!
Band was best when together in spite of problems sadly ...nothing better than Ruby Vroom CD in my view in spite of singers new hatred for this period!
they were so fuckin talented
I'm so glad this exists....
Sad youtube took of Super Bon Bon live at Lollapalooza 97 and Down To This on Jon Stewart 95.
SWEET!!!
Great band!
Seen them three times in Chicago... (no pun intended). Solid each time.
great recording
Smokin' performance!
SC was def more original. Besties were great at what they did. SC was great for making the most kick ass original funky rock music of the 90's
Highly underrated band.
This song was the first thing I thought of back in 2001 when the Bush administration claimed that nobody could have imagined someone flying a plane into a building.
Yes
Tommy Boy Soundtrack brought me here!
So tomorriw Henry does ABC Australia..cudnt resist this...
Mike is so youthful here
How high do you have to be to enjoy this?
Marshall Field's IS Chicago, Macy's IS NOT Chicago!
FUCK YES! THIS IS ROCKI' PLAIN AND NOT SO SIMPLE!
The UVs and Horsetricks should get together again.

Futuristic folk funk rap
whats that drummer's name? He's on fire
Yuval Gabay.
While chewing gum.
808 State was post-SC.
I agree, though I don't anything of the other players, they seem like a tight band onstage. I know Mike had worked with 808 state before SC, but what of the other guys?

Dude this song is cool as shit!
Chapter 3? I read by audiobook so my chapters were different.
808 state was the same time. 1996.
yeah, ive been reading his memoir too. do you know what part of it he talks about the french concert?
Holy crap, is the bass player wearing a striped shirt? I wonder if this is the French concert that Doughty talked about in Book of Drugs...?

shut the fuck up, you quite clearly don't understand what sampling even is
The Based God Max says somebody 4 years later LOLOL😂.
Where did you find this???
@emilymize and from what I can tell pointy shoes
someone teach me to play this on the guitar
Great song from a truly original band. Too bad the sound recording sucks
It was done live but great to see them up close.
Noir Désir a copier ce groupe dans son titre le grand incendie, check the grand incendie of Noir Desir
Heh, I expected to see you here.
God damn, am I right?
Yuval Gabay is the motherfucking truth.
Yuval Gabay is Mas Foxy!
They were ten times better than the Beasties Brats!
soul coughing is so cool, except for Doughty. sure, unpopular opinion. but doughty is an asshole. saw him solo and he literally told the crowd to stop talking while he was playing or he'd walk off.
i could listen to the rest of the band for days, but i can't stand Doughty.
G, Em. Chorus, A. His guitar work was very basic. it's the keyboard that's hard as fuck.
A man drives a plane...prescient or what!?
He moves like Michel J. Fox lmao...
